Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd December 2025

3rd December, 2025.

Right … it’s Wednesday: and … ?

I’ve dug up the sunglasses on a day that’s promising to be overcast, at the very least.

“Why the shades?”, I hear you ask.

That’s easy to answer.

Today’s the day for my diabetic eye check.

Experience — as well as repeated medical explanation — tells me the nurse carrying the procedure will use eye drops to make my pupils dilate, so the examination can see inside my eyes.

So, of course, on the walk home … ?

Things are going to look a lot brighter than they should!

Heigh … … ho!

~≈😎≈~

Oh, JUST as a thought … ?

My nephew, Jude, was over, last night.

Along side an early lift home from his mother, and a pizza.

It’s the first time I’ve known my nephew to have pepperoni on a pizza.

But not the first time he’s made a video …

The President of the USA is being a racist: and yes, there’s ruder terms I could be using.

In a recent, televised, Cabinet meeting — told how he wants Somalis to leave the country: or “… go back to where they came from”, as he put it.

I’m wondering all sorts of things.

But mostly how the many Somali-Americans, and the American Somali community, feel about that.

A man holding the highest office in the land, a man who’s supposed to protect all Americans, regardless of origins, is starting to pick on people.

Or, at least, pick on more people: Americans of Mexican origins aren’t fond of the man.

I’ve got to ask …

Who’s next, Mr President?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-12-2024 — Berkshire

3rd December, 2024: Berkshire.

I’m officially getting old!

I saw a movie, on Sunday night: 1980s Hazel O’Connor vehicle, Breaking Glass.

And published both written and video versions of my review, fairly late.

This morning … ?

I find myself feeling bloody knackered: as a result of finishing the video version incredibly late.

Or, at least, more tired than I would’ve felt, ten years ago!

I’m getting old!

~≈🥱≈~

Oh … yesterday’s weight management meeting went well enough: I’ve lost weight.

Not much weight: but a nod’s as good as a wink to a blind bat.

Or horse, cat, herring, banana, what have you!

The unfortunate thing?

Was that blood test I had afterwards.

It was a dead loss: that I’ve had to rebook.

I’d not drunk enough fluids for the phlebotomist to be able to do her job!

Elon Musk is lovely, and I want to fondle him.

Please insert a lot of irony into that statement!

Elon Musk is … probably several things: including all sorts of unprintable things.

But … ?

He’s got ministers thinking.

As Elon’s announced he wants to donate some $100, 000, 000 to Nigel Farage’s Reform party, ministers are now thinking of introducing a cap — or, at least, tightening caps — on foreign donations to British political parties.

Elon could probably, very easily, get around that: by setting up dummy companies, giving them money, and telling them to make a donation for him.

But … ?

In considering these caps, the government is at least showing it wants to be seen to be doing something!

~≈🤑≈~

I’ve JUST had a call from my landlords.

They’ll be sending a carpenter around on Friday, to do some work on my bathroom!

Yay!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd December 2023.

3rd December, 2023.

Right … it’s officially Sunday.

And … ?

I’ll have my review of Wild Blue Yonder finished, tonight.

It’s safe to say it’s a very good episode!

~≈®≈~

Oh … yes: as I mentioned in the video intro … ?

It’s been raining: although I think it’s stopped, by now.

I’m actually thankful, for both it starting, and stopping.

It was snowing, the other day!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd December 2022 Teaser.

3rd December, 2022.

Yes: it’s Saturday.

And I officially know what I’m having for dinner.

Stew.

As opposed to, say, chilli: or spaghetti.

I made a batch on Thursday.

And have to admit: I’m rather pleased with it.

I think I got the roux, the mixture that can be used to thicken stock, right.

~≈É≈~

Are you in the UK … ?   And, like me, starting to send Christmas cards?

I’m grateful I keep an eye on the news.

As the Royal Mail has announced that people should send Xmas card earlier than usual: as the expected postal strikes are going to hold things up.

The revised dates are:
  • 2nd Class — 12th December.
  • 1st Class — 19th December.
  • International Post — 3rd December.   (Today.)
Which means I’ve got one last card I have to get posted, today!

Heigh-ho!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-12-2021: Illinois

3rd December, 2021.

It’s official: I was on the phone, yesterday.

Quite a lot: for me, anyway.

As it sounds like the chap next is moving out.

He’d moved in a few years ago, with his girlfriend: the pair had a child, together.

A one bedroom flat isn’t necessarily the best place to have a kid, but there you go.

At any rate: he had a few mental health issues.

Issues that may — may — have contributed to the pair splitting up: I couldn’t say for sure.

At any rate: she moved in with her parents, about a year ago.

With him retaining control of the flat, but temporary moving to his parents: as he was finding life on his own difficult.

He or his parents would look occasionally, to pick up the post.

A few months ago … ?   As I wasn’t sure what was happening, I made what’s called a Concern for Welfare call to the local police, and to our landlords: as he’d not been seen for a while.

He was upright and breathing, thankfully.

What concerned me other the past few days … ?

Was that Robert Heath — my landlord’s boiler-repair/gas safety contractors — had left a note to say they’d tried gaining access to do the mandatory gas safety check.

Then left a second note: complete with a big ‘URGENT’ sticker.

Knowing how gas safety checks work, I knew a third visit would involve a visit from a engineer allowed to force entry: gas safety checks are seriously important.

I made another welfare check with the local police: who told me asking the landlord, and the NHS, would be the better option.

So I phoned the NHS on the usually 111 non-emergency number, and our landlords: through their 0300 number.

Which took a while!

The NHS told me there was little they could do: as the various bits of privacy legislation meant They couldn’t get hold of his phone number from our landlords.

Out landlords, however?   Did phone: to tell me they’d contacted him and made sure he was OK.

Some thirty minutes after his parents had popped ’round: to pick up his post, and some other bits and bobs.

In the brief conversations I had with them?

I found out that he was OK, let them know about the gas check … and learnt he was planning to end his tenancy, on health grounds.

He’s better off with his parents, basically.

I’ve asked them to pass him my regards.

I can only hope life treats him well: and that a new tenant is in quickly.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-12-2020: Julianne Moore.

3rd December, 2020.

It’s officially the case: that I want to go back to bed!

It’s now what weather presents are calling meteorological winter.

They start banging on like that?

It’s a good bet it’s cold.

I don’t think they’re wrong, this time …

~≈†≈~

At any rate … ?

According to my diary, I’ve got a dentist checkup, today.

I couldn’t tell you if they’ve cancelled, though.

The phone mast is still down …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd December, 2019.

3rd December, 2019.

Right then …

I’m up early … again.

For the second day of the course I’m on.

Day one, yesterday?

Was mostly about filling in the paperwork.   And doing some online numeracy and literacy testing.

On Windows based laptops.

I’m a Mac fan: you can imagine how I felt, can’t you … ?

~≈®≈~

On a more serious note?

Much as I’d rather not use a PC, I’m fairly certain that — in using them — I’m going to need to be a touch cautious.

These are shared machines: normally used in an academic setting*, and running an older form of Windows that’s due to be replaced.

And with student’s work on them.

I’m going to need to be careful to not look at that.

And am quietly thinking the college’s IT department could possibly set up the guest accounts on the machines we’re using to not show those.

Or, at least, make sure tutors encourage students to not keep their work on the custom guest accounts.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-12-2018: Ozzy!

3rd December, 2018.

Yep: I really need a haircut, I think.

Hopefully?

I’ll be able to afford at: once I’ve had my initial batch of Universal Credit through.

We’ll have to see.

~≈§≈~

At ANY rate … ?

I’ve managed to catch last night’s episode of Dr Who: and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Which is an interesting little watch.

And one that seems to be getting a lot of discussion on Twitter.

Personally?

I like it: although it definitely seemed to be nodding at Coraline.

And possibly Slartibartfast.

At any rate … ?

It’s worth a watch.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd December 2017

Argh!

I’m up late … !   I forgot to put my alarm on, last night … !

I got up at eight instead of seven … !

I hate doing that.   Especially on a day off: when I have to go shopping … !

Remind me not to to kick myself.

I’d probably miss!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-12-2016

Hmmm …

I’m just listening to the radio, while I write this.

And … ?

I’m listening to the Today programme: their interviewing at least one ex-footballer, at the mo, along with one former manager.

Both of whom are talking about the on-going situation: of child abuse committed at various English football clubs.

Which …

I’m tempted to say it’s a scandal.   Except we already know that.

I’m still thinking what I have been over the past few days.

That the sort of abuse we’re hearing about is unacceptable.

That news of it coming out, now is a good thing: it can kick start some sort of justice.

But I get the impression that some allegations have been made against a specific, named, individual: working, at one point, for Southampton FC.

One who was asked to move on, after allegations were received, against him.

Who, again, was asked to move on from another team: after similar allegations were received, there.

And who is currently working for another team.

I have to ask … well, several things.

Are the teams who harboured abusers, back in the day, now making sure their child protection measures are seriously improved?

And … ?   Where is that Southampton abuser, now?

Somebody is sitting on a bombshell.

Fright Night: Hello … !

Fright Night (2011) Poster
3rd December, 2013.
You know, first there’s a paucity of films: and then … ?

THEN two come along in one week.

True … !

Because, bless him, old friend Kevin D managed to ask me over: in part so we could catch a film, and in part … ?

In part, because he wanted to show me his new 3d capable TV.

Which, I have to say, was rather impressive … !

~≈◊≈~
4th December, 2013.
Right, where WAS I … ?

APART from telling you about Kevin’s new TV set … ?

A Pair Of 3D Glasses
And after getting a good night’s sleep, letting in the aerial repair chap, who’s finishing off the last three flats aerial connections.

You wouldn’t think that’s taken five weeks, now would you?   But there you go …

At ANY rate … ?

At ANY rate, I’d not seen Kevin and wife, Sarah* — who gets both congratulations for passing her driving test, and my thinks for the lift home, last night — so heading over was a welcome night out — or in — for all of us.

As was the movie we managed to catch, last: the 2011 remake that was Fright Night … !
