Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-12-2020: Julianne Moore.

3rd December, 2020.

It’s officially the case: that I want to go back to bed!

It’s now what weather presents are calling meteorological winter.

They start banging on like that?

It’s a good bet it’s cold.

I don’t think they’re wrong, this time …

~≈†≈~

At any rate … ?

According to my diary, I’ve got a dentist checkup, today.

I couldn’t tell you if they’ve cancelled, though.

The phone mast is still down …

~≈†≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor*, Olga†, Mum‡, Edith^ and Debbiª putting in their answers: with Trevor, Olga, and Debbi scoring five out of five, Edith on four and Mum on one.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1)        December 3rd saw the birth of actress, Julianne Moore.   In which year?

Q2)        What was her birth name: Julie Anne Smith, Julie Murdoch or Julia de Vere Farquharson-Smythe?

Q3)        She plays a porn actress in which 1997, Mark Wahlberg, film … ?

Q4)        She plays Special Agent Clarice Starling: in which film?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Julianne Moore won the 2015 Best Actress Oscar for which film?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        2nd December, 2010, saw NASA discover microorganisms with cells made from what: phosphorus, arsenic or uranium?
A1)        Arsenic.

Q2)        2nd December, 1988, saw Benazir Bhutto sworn in as the first female Prime Minister of where: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia or Iraq?
A2)        Pakistan.

Q3)        2nd December, 1981, saw the birth of Britney Spears.   She starred — along side Christina Aguilera, and Justin Timberlake — in the All Newwhat?
A3)        Mickey Mouse Club.

Q4)        Writer, Botho Strauß, was born on 2nd December, 1944.   In what’s now which European country?
A4)        Germany.

Q5)        Finally … ? 2nd December, 1993, saw the death of drug lord, Pablo Escobar. He was the leader of which organised crime mob: the Medellin Cartel, the Genovese Family or the Inagawa-kai?
A5)        The Medellin Cartel.   (The Cartel specialised in producing and smuggling cocaine: and monopolised the US cocaine trade in the 1980s and 90s.   The Genovese are one of New York’s Five Families, and originally founded by Luck Luciano.   The Inagawa-kai (稲川会) are Japan’s third largest Yakuza clan.)
Here’s a thought …
“I’ve heard it said that winning an Oscar means you live five years longer.   If that’s true I want to thank the academy because my husband is younger than me.”
Julianne Moore.
And a video …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Nigella overdresses as much as Fanny Craddock, Trevor?   I’ll take your word for it.   I bet Nigella doesn’t worship Escoffier as much as Fanny did!   (He gets a mention in The Power of Three, Trevor: just in case you didn’t know.   Apparently?   He had nothing to do with the invention of the duck press …)

†        Phew!   Glad to hear it, Olga!   I think it’s made a good impression on Debbi.
Either way, I’m glad you enjoyed the book!   And the owls: Ben and the gang have been around for a while.

‡        Hello Mum!

^        Harry Sullivan, Edith?   I’m mildly impressed!   Ian Marter died far too young: he was forty-two.

ª        Glad you enjoyed the video, Debbi: let me know if the Car Insurance one works.   And, just so you know … ?   Whilst is in Merriam-Webster …

I've come across this tool on a writer's blog, and I wonder if you knew it or you might find it amusing. It allows you to colour old black & white photos, and it seems particularly suited to this time of the year (especially as there might not be big gatherings, at least live). It allows you to download an App both for Windows and Mac, but you can also use it online (I've tried it only on three photos, and the results vary depending on the original photo, but they are not bad...)

WHILE
Do you know that Network Rail had to change the wording on signs at automated level crossing because of the secondary meaning of the word “While” in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire. The original signs by automated barrier crossings used to say “Wait here while red lights flashing”. But in rural areas of those two counties there were many accidents at the crossing because like me the country yokels take the word “While” to mean “Until”. So people stopped on green lights and started to cross the lines when the red lights started flashing. I believe the wording now say “Wait IF red light flashing”.

We use wording like “wait while I get dressed” where as many in the south will say “wait until I am dressed”.

It is in Merriam-Webster. Says "Chiefly British", so ... maybe us Norteamericanos should re-adopt it. :)
