Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th December, 2020

29th December, 2020

Yes: I’ve got stuff on the way from Amazon.

And … ?

Well, there’s a few cheap bits … and at least one expensive bit.

Which is why they’ve told me they’re sending me a password.

I can live with that.

Last time I had a sensitive delivery, they only asked for ID!

It’s not often my home town gets a mention on Radio 4 … but Brentwood’s just got a mention on Radio 4.

It turns out we’ve currently got the worst COVID 19 rates in England.

Which means … ?

Well …

It’s going to take long to find a job …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Edith‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five and Edith on four and Mum on three.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        29th December, 1808, saw the birth of US President, Andrew Jackson.   Who did he replace as US president?

Q2)        29th December is the (Roman Catholic) feats day of David: the third King of Israel.   Who succeeded him as King: Saul, Solomon or Ish-bosheth?

Q3)        Eight hundred and fifty years ago, Archbishop Thomas Becket was killed at prayer, in Canterbury Cathedral: on 29th December, 1170.   On the apparent orders of which English King?

Q4)        29th December, 1986, saw the death of Lord Stockton.   He was better known as which British Prime Minister: Harold Wilson, Ted Heath or Harold Macmillan?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Bob Monkhouse died on 29th December, 2003.   His last work was as the main character in which series: Aaargh! It’s the Mr Hell Show, Mongrels or The Magic Roundabout?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        28th December, 1954, saw the birth of actor, Denzel Washington.   He won his first Oscar in 1990: for which film?
A1)        Glory.

Q2)        In which film did he play activist, Malcolm X?
A2)        Malcolm X.   (No Sell Out!)

Q3)        Denzel plays Eli in The Book of Eli.   The book in question was a copy of what?
A3)        The Bible: the King James Version, if I remember, correctly.   (The film’s great: and has a hell of a twist!)

Q4)        Denzel played Dr Philip Chandler: in which TV series?
A4)        St Elsewhere.

Q5)        Finally … ?   He’s one of three producers of the still unreleased, 2020, film, Ma Rainey’s what?
A5)        Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.   (The film sees Viola Davis play Rainey, herself.   Levee, Rainey’s trumpeter, is one of Chadwick Boseman’s last performances.)
Here’s a thought …
“I’d like to die like my old dad, peacefully in his sleep, not screaming like his passengers.”
In Memoriam, Bob Monkhouse (1 June 1928 – 29 December 2003)
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        I’ll look forward to it, Olga!   Sounds like it could be interesting!
Oh, did you know Chadwick Boseman’s in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom?   It’s one of his last performances.

†        Hello, Mum!

‡        Isn’t it just, Edith: boy, that kid took after his grandfather!   (Oh, I’ve mentioned it to Debbi: Revolution of the Daleks is getting a 4k showing on the BBC’s iPlayer catchup service.   I don’t know if it’ll de shown that way on BritBox or BBC America.)

^        Pleasure, as ever, Debbi!   Oh, I don’t know if I mentioned it, but, seemingly?   Revolution of the Daleks is getting a 4k showing on the iPlayer.
