Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17th November 2025.

17th November, 2025.

It’s official: it’s Monday morning.

And … ?

It’s off to my weight management class I go.

And, given the weather forecast’s told me it’s going to be cold?

I had a look at the weather forecast for today.

I think I’m going to need a jumper …

~≈🥶≈~

I have to admit, I watch stuff on Youtube.

Granted, there’s only so many talking heads I can watch … but one video caught my eye, last night.

This one.

That tells how many people have taken to video piracy in the wake of a splintered streaming market.

How — given streaming services are becoming ever more fractured, and expensive — people are turning to other ways of watching content.

And how, given how streaming sites are removing content, many pirates see themselves are archivists, as a result.

Personally?

I can’t say I was surprised by what the video was telling me: especially the bit that says many pirates see themselves as archivists.

Given that An Unearthly Child, the first Doctor Who story, is still not available on iPlayer?

That there’s few other ways of watching these shows, other than pirate copies?

Are you surprised?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17th November, 2024.

17th November, 2024.

You have to ask — or, at least, I have to ask — what exactly qualifies as carbon neutral … ?

Oh, I know, I know: it means balancing out the carbon dioxide generated when you make something, by … ah … planting trees.

Sequestering carbon*.

Hugging whales.

What have you.

As you’re possibly also aware?

Apple’s released a slew of new products: including a new generation of Mac minis.

One of which I’ve ordered.

A model that’s got sixteen gigabytes of RAM, a one terabyte SSD†, and one of Apple’s whizzy new M4 processors‡.

A model I’m very aware is — the last time I look at the tracking information — in Hong Kong, and due to get to me by Friday: via Stansted.

Apple tells us these models are the first carbon neutral ones they’ve ever made.

At least, they do: in this ad.

Quite — given how my one was built in Shenzhen, and being shipped from Hong Kong, via Stansted Airport — how my one is ‘carbon neutral’, I really don’t know!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17th November 2023.

17th November, 2023.

Right … I’m officially off to hospital.

For an official scan!

In — ha! — Basildon Hospital.

Hopefully, the buses won’t be too bad.

Governments … governments, governments …

The current UK government?   Is possibly no worse — and no better — than any other.

And?   With an election due next year, at the latest?

Seems to be keen to look tough.

A recent news piece tells us that the government are planning cuts to the welfare system, to try to save money.

Or, at least, cuts to the various sickness benefits that I — amongst others — are applying for.

Which is worrying!

Another piece?

Tells us the Government is planning to introduce tougher sanctions for those of us who refuse work.

Which isn’t worrying.

It’s no more than an update of something the government already does.

The piece also tells us the government “… will also put additional staff in job centres to help claimants struggling to find work.”

Which isn’t news to me.

It’s something I’ve been aware of for at least a year!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17th November, 2022.

17th November, 2022.

Yes: you’re right.

I’m up, early, again.

I’ve actually got a Zoom meeting: for the weight management programme I’ve been on for the past few months.

To be frank?

It’s been extended for a month: with a possibility of bariatric surgery at some point.

We’ll see.

~≈Ω≈~

You’ve possibly been following me for a while, haven’t you … ?

You’re possibly aware I’m jobhunting, and on benefits: and very aware that Jeremy hunt, the UK’s Chancellor — its Finance Minister, in other words — is to make his annual Autumn Statement, today.

There’s talk — talk, mind — that he will raise both pensions and benefits in line with inflation.

Funded by increases taxes.

I’m not working: and my tax payments are minimal to non-existent.

So I’m hoping an inflation-linked rise in benefits payments.

Hoping.

We’ll have to see if that rise goes through, and — if it goes through — when it will go through.

Sooner, rather than later, would be good.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser 17-11-2021: Suez!

17th November, 2021.

It’s a Wednesday.

You’d noticed, hadn’t you … ?

At any rate, it’s a Wednesday where I’m not scheduled for a meeting, a pest controller, or some sort of medical appointment.

That’s possibly a result.

~≈¥≈~

Oh …

Bless her, my mother managed to find an old Mac mouse and keyboard sitting around.

And I’ve just found the power cable/brick for Bruce: my 2007 era Mac mini.

All I need now … ?

Is a VGA monitor: given that, I can access some of the older games that macOS no longer supports.

Watchmen — Series 1 Episode 9 — See How They Fly — A Review

17th November, 2020.

I think I can safely say I’m feeling a touch better.

I was at the GP’s, earlier: for various reasons: as I mention in today’s Teaser.

And frankly?

I’ve got a course of antibiotics, let’s put it that way!

Hopefully, they’ll have an effect.

If they don’t, I have to phone back in a fortnight.

Keep your fingers crossed.

However, and as is traditional, by now?

I’m starting my review of the climactic episode of Watchmen, on the night I’ve seen it.

Partly?   I’ve got some bedtime reading I want to do: a short story collection by Arthur Machen, if you must know*.

Partly?   To get my brain in order.

And partly?   Because I want some sort of sleep, thank you!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17th November, 2020

17th November, 2020.

Right …

I’ve officially got a visit to my GP’s practise nurse, today: at 10.

Frankly, I’d rather keep the reason why to myself, thank you!

It’s not going to be necessarily pleasant, though!

But, boy, I’m going to need a bath!

~≈¥≈~

Remember, yesterday, I was supposed to be going to an assessment: for the European Computer Driving License course I’m due to start?

Yesterday?

It got cancelled!

And rearranged as a phone meeting for Friday.

Which is good.

The laptop turns up, on Thursday …

~≈¥≈~

On a final thought … ?

Radio Four comedy, I’m Sorry, I Haven’t A Clue, has been named as the greatest radio comedy ever made.

Hopefully?   That means that — in spite of the sad death of Tim Brooke Taylor, this year, — the show will be re-commissioned for another series.

And gives me an excuse to included this video: of possibly the best games of Mornington Crescent, ever!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17th November, 2018

17th November, 2018.

Right …

It’s my first Saturday off since …

Well, either last week, or for some time.

I’m …

Well, there’s a lot of paperwork I still need to do: emails to send, applications to make, what have you.

I’ve got teaser videos to make: quite a few, actually, I’ve taken the chance to finish the rest of the months.

You never know, I might get lucky with the interview.

And need a ton!

~≈§≈~

It’s official.

I’ve got Radio Four on, at the moment.

The Today programme, so you know.

Get’s what’s being discussed?

It’s spelt B•R•E•X•I•T, just in case you’re wondering.

Frankly?

Given that fact the presenters have been discussion how there’s a cabal in the Cabinet, supposedly plotting an alternative Deal?

And ANOTHER group who are plotting a leadership contest, to try and replace her?

I couldn’t vote Conservative if you paid me.

But we have a PM who’s STILL not been knocked off her perch.

Does anyone want to ask if she’s been nailed there … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17-11-2017: The Student Body

Right, I’m back at work, today.

And, what’s amazing me?

Is the simple fact I’m tired: still.

After having, in theory, enough sleep: even after catching an episode of The Strain.

Hopefully, though?

The simple fact I’m now recovering from an tooth extraction, means I can start drinking hot tea: and, at least, pick myself up, that way.

~≈§≈~

Frankly, though?   I’m personally just grateful that tooth’s out.

It means that, right now?

My mouth’s a lot less uncomfortable than it was.

That, as far as I’m concerned?

Is all well and good.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17-11-2016

Sorry, sorry, you catch me yawning, there … !

But … ?

I’m now up and about …

And have switched on the news.

Or, at least, Radio Four’s Today programme.

At it has to be said …

I noticed that the most recent batch of dementia research shows that it’s true.

Our ability navigate decreases with age.

Quite how thois would contribute?   I couldn’t tell you.

Except I’m very aware that, in it’s early stages?   The various forms of dementia seriously impact navigation skills …

Here’s hoping the research helps!
