Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 11-9-2023 — QI

11th September, 2023: QI.

Right … It’s early on a Monday morning.

Frankly?

I’ve got my weight management meeting, today.

Hopefully?

I’ll’ve lost seem weight.

I was up last week!

~≈¥≈~

I have to admit, I made an effort, last night: to try and watch a movie.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, in case you’re interested.

I have to admit, I gave up on it: between the heat, the painkillers, and the length of the thing, I really wasn’t in the mood … !

At any rate … ?

When I get back, I’m going to either have to make a phone call — or go online — to do some work.

Putting in appeals against a DWP decision takes a lot of work!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-5-2020: Peter Cushing

26th May, 2020.

Yes: I’ve finally had both a potato mashers, and series 12 of Dr Who, delivered.

To my door.

In a box that was far bigger than it needed to be*.

Which is nice …

I’ve also got a face mask: courtesy of my sister, Anna.

The blu ray, will of course get ripped: and go on a shelf until my local CeX re-opens.

Which shouldn’t be too long, now.

As the government have announced that shops can reopen on the 15th June.

Hey ho …

A couple of days ago?   I mentioned how digital poverty — how school children from poorer families — were having trouble under lockdown.   The families concerned, generally very tight budget: and couldn’t normally afford laptops or internet connections.

Which got me wondering all sorts of things.

Mostly?   What are local schools doing about this?

I’ve actually emailed Essex County Council: just to see if they’ve got any country wide policy on that front.

Just for my own satisfaction.

I may have to email some local schools, as well.

That’s one other thing …

I’m very aware I’m struggling to pay my bills: internet ones included.

However, I’m getting by: having paid the expensive bit, the original connection fee, many years ago.

I’m wondering what one or two of my neighbours could do.

So I’m mulling over what sort of enquiries I could make, there: given I know BT has a very reasonable package aimed at the unemployed.

We’ll have to see.

Following on from the Disc Problem post …

Well …

This is going to be quick …

Remember me saying about how I was having trouble with the optical drives attached to the Mini?

Well, I had a … minor … very minor … result.

I’d been mooching around the various Apple Forums, and — so far — the only resolution I’ve seen on there is to clean the interior drive.

Which is a job and a half, as you might be able to imagine.

But there were a couple of points that caught my eye.

Using a lens cleaner: which isn’t perfect.

And (for the external burner), unplugging it between uses.

Now I’ve tried using the DVD lens cleaner option on the internal drive.

Which didn’t seem to help.

But I do know that, having used a DVD lens cleaner on the (pictured) exterior drive, and making sure it’s disconnected between uses does seem to have helped.

Or, at least, it helped on the attempt I made, burn a copy of Dalek Invasion Earth:2150AD, that I’d backed up years ago.

Which was an overnight job: but one that worked.

So it means I’m be happy.

For now.

But eyeballing a lot of — for the moment — rather pricey kit.
