OK … it’s officially official: my nephew was here, yesterday!

Yes: video has been both edited, and uploaded … !

Inevitably, we had issues!

Or more issues than we were expecting, let’s put it that way.

Ruth — my sister, and Jude’s mother — had given us some cash: so we could get dinner.

The inevitable pizza from the local branch of Dominos.

They’re usually reliable, fast … and don’t have any technical issues.

Apart from last night: when we were trying to order!

Yes: the order wouldn’t got through.

After repeated attempts: multiple attempts, with multiple browsers.

And after multiple checks with my bank’s online balance checking system.

Jude possibly knows my card number, better than I do.

We still had no pizza, after those multiple attempts: so I had to phone the order in!

Which — as Domino’s only do some discounts, online, but not by phone? — ended up costing me a fiver more than paying online would’ve done.

I’m not happy, let’s put it that way!

Especially when we did a Google search to try and solve the problem.

One of the explanations, albeit an AI generated one, told us that “stores might temporarily turn off online ordering due to understaffing.”

Which had me and Jude looking at each other … and (mentally), saying “That sounds very plausible”.

Was it the case, though?

Had the local Dominos turned off online ordering, because they were understaffed?

I don’t know.

But, yes: the branch being overworked, and understaffed — there was a World Cup game on, after all — and turning off a useful tool in order to make the shift more manageable, sounds credible to me.

That doesn’t make me — or my very hungry nephew — any happier.

I might just have to email them …

Right … I’m officially knackered!

But officially lighter!

I was at my weight management meeting, yesterday: and officially down eight-hundred grams.

About one and three quarters of a pound.

So that’s good.

I’m officially knackered … because I finished off a film review, last night: of the 1978 version of Superman.

Whilst we’re on the subject of Superman … ?

I have something of a confession to make.

My thoughts go in all sorts of directions, when it comes to the DC universe’s most powerful character.

Inevitably?

I wonder what would have happened if — in the real-world — someone that powerful, existed.

You’d have to ask what would happen if the character landed in Nazi Germany*, or Stalinist Russia.

Quite where would go, I don’t know.

The other thing that occurs?

Is a quote from Moore and Gibson’s Watchmen graphic novel: when someone was discussing Dr Manhattan, the novel’s equivalent to Superman, a character that’s equally as transcendent.

“God exists, and he’s American”.

If there were a real Superman … ?

Well … we can only be glad there isn’t …

Frankly, my pharmacist text messaged, last night: to let me know my next set of medications have turned up.

So it’s a case of getting into town, pick up the meds, finish a review, baby sit my nephew, make at least one video, have something to eat … 

And, possibly, have another cup of tea.

The Cost Of Living payments the government were due to start paying out, yesterday, started being paid out, yesterday.

I know of one person who’s had it.

That person wasn’t me.

Personally?

I’m expecting it to hit my bank account on pay day: at the end of next week.

Just when I don’t need it.

Even though I’m expecting it, then?

I’m going to be checking my account, today.

The sooner it’s in there, the happier I’ll be.

Yes, I’ll admit it: I’m something of a news junkie.

Well … I listen to the news.

OK, OK … I have the Today programme on, every morning.

And … ?   They’re reporting on the National Food Strategy report, authored by Henry Dimbleby.

OK: there’s possibly a lot in there.

Including taxing the salt and sugar content of various food and drinks.

That … ?   Could possibly be a good thing.

Although I’m worried that’s going to put the price up of cheap food many of us rely on.

The headline that caught me, though?

Was the idea this tax could be use — in part — to help the National Health Service prescribe fresh fruit and vegetables, for those of us who need them.

To me, personally … ?

That sounds — depending on how it’s done — like a good idea.

Oh, JUST as a thought … ?

You’ll remember I had a colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago.

Which was fun … !

I had the results letter, back, yesterday.

The polyps that got removed?

Were benign.

I’m officially don’t have colon cancer!

I’m assuming you’re in the UK, yes?   Unless you’re some of my regular readers, of course!

At any rate, it you’re in the UK, you’ll have noticed that the UK government’s banned the use of Huawei equipment in UK phone networks.

I’m in two minds.

I understand their stuff’s a security risk.

But, if I’ve understood what the news has told me over the years?

A big factor in Huawei kit being used, is simply that it’s cheap.

I think the ban is good … if the government introduced price controls, with it.

After all, the telecoms companies that now have to strip Huawei kit from their networks, are going to have to spend a fortune to do so^.

You know, there comes a time …

No, let’s forget opening pretentiously, shall we?

I’m me.

And would far rather be blunt.

Ish.

I’d ALSO far rather be dancing the boo-ga-loo.   But am very aware my knees couldn’t take the strain.

And that at my age, and with my build … ?

Dancing is going to look undignified.

At least if nothing else, I can put some classic Japan on and tap my feet.

If I don’t look undignified …

At any rate I’ve had a restful day off, today: dinner with the family, and some laundry, included.

Oh, and making movies with iMovie.   Teaser videos, anyway.

Experimenting with some of the filters can be handy …

I ALSO like watching TV: if there’s anything worth watching on.   As my family will tell you, the only reason I was interested in the World Cup final, today?

Was the fact the first teaser trailer with Jodie Whittaker’s 13th Doctor aired during half time.

Would’ve been nice to see an air date, there, but still …

It’s nice to see it.

It was ALSO nice to see what I eventually ended up seeing, tonight.

Yep: I sat down with the 2017 film, The Endless.

No … 

Beyond saying this is a good film?

I couldn’t quite tell you what I’ve seen.

I’ve just seen the trailer for Darkest Hour, the upcoming film about the evacuation of Dunkirk, during World War Two.

It has to be said, when I heard about it?

I wasn’t too sure about casting Oldman as Churchill.   He’s the wrong shape.

THEN I saw the trailer.

Yep.

I think I’m convinced …

Yep: the BBC will be announce who the 13th Doctor actor is, after the Wimbledon Men’s Singles final, tomorrow.

I’d love to see it live.

BLAST … 

I didn’t get the job … !

As you may or may not know, I had an interview, on Wednesday: down in London.

Hell of a trip on the tube, I should add.

I got the email, back, yesterday: to tell me I’d not been chosen for a second interview, late last night.

Definitely upsetting, that: that was a definite blow to my self-esteem.

Frankly?

It’s a blow.   It doesn’t mean I’m going to stop looking for alternative employment.

But it’s a definite blow.

I had a bad day, yesterday.   I’ll happily admit that.

Frankly, though?

I don’t think I’ve had as bad a day as the town of Nice.

Early reports started coming in, last night.

It seems that a lone attacker drove a truck along the main sea-front, there: killing at least eighty-four people in the process.

I can only offer my condolences to those who’ve lost loved ones, there.

And my hope that these attacks can stop.
