Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-7-2021: World Chess Day.

20th July, 2021.

Right … it’s a Tuesday … and the weather is looking good … again.

And, after two meetings, yesterday … ?

I’ve another, today.

Yes: I’m due for a meeting with my case worker, at the Job Centre.

Quite how that will go?   I don’t know.

Well …

Not until I get there … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 22-5-2021: Sir Arthur

22nd May, 2021.

Right … I’ve news … mixed, but mostly positive news.

I had a colonoscopy, yesterday, at Basildon Hospital.

Which was fun.

The good news?   Is that I have nothing more serious than piles and a couple of polyps* on my colon.

Which, I’m told, are something along the lines of warts: and something that would normally be removed, as they can turn cancerous.

Thankfully, the ones I have, haven’t.

Normally … ?

Mine would’ve been removed on the day.

But weren’t.

As the laxatives — gosh, they were fun! — I’d had on Thursday didn’t … um … clear everything … !

I’m going to have to repeat the process.

Just as an extra thought about the colonoscopy?

I have to admit to being nervous about it, yesterday.

I was, after all, getting a camera put somewhere where cameras don’t usually go.

But thankfully?   I was given a sedative: “to help me relax.”

I couldn’t help but notice was Fentanyl: the drug that’s contributing much to the US opioid crisis.

I’ll happily admit, I’m trying not to worry about that.

But am definitely noticing the aftereffects of the stuff.

No wonder they tell you not to drive: they’re mild, as far as I can see.

But they’re not necessarily nice …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 31-10-2019: Halloween.

31st October, 2019.

Yes: I’ve finally had my boiler  … looked at!

As you may or may not know?

My boiler’s having issues: giving out lukewarm water, rather than hot water.

According to the engineer who turned up, yesterday?

One main issue?   Is simply that what he called the back plate is — much like an old kettle — covered in limescale.

Which is what’s causing the problem, apparently.

The engineer’s told me he’d be recommending both repair or replacement: whatever was more economic.

And that I’d have to give my landlord’s a call, to finalise that.

Hmmm …

I thinking one thing is certain.

This is going to take a while …

The Daily Teaser — 22-5-2015

Did I tell you I’ve got frequently used bits of technology?

You’d KIND of worked that out, I know that much.

t any rate, I’ve bits of technology kit I rely on: I prefer Macs, notably.   I use a lot of USB flash drives, as well.

I also make use of AdBlock Plus, a web-browser extension that does what it says on the tin: blocks adverts.

I love it, I should say.  It means I get a reassuring amount of blank space on websites: that would otherwise be occupied by irritating ads.

So I was rather pleased to see the company behind the extension has had some good news.   Recently, it’s revealed a browser for Android phones: as Google have dropped it from the Google Play store.

Slightly less recently?   They’ve won a court case in Germany that means the three companies who were suing them.   And who took several positions: ONE of which was that AdBlock Plus violated  freedom of the press.   (The companies who sued are newspapers.)

Personally?   Well, personally, I think that’s a bit silly.   Yes, there’s freedom of the press.

But there’s also a user’s right to not have adverts thrown at him!
