Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-10-2025 — “Love Me Do”

5th October, 2025: “Love Me Do”.

It’s officially official: courtesy of the local barbers, I’ve had a haircut!

I’m thankful!

Frankly, I was getting a little bit shaggy.

~≈💈≈~

I’m not one for dancing: or watching people dance.

Or watching dance competitions.

But I’m very aware that Alex Kingston — best known as Dr Who’s River Song — is taking part in this year’s version of Strictly Come Dancing.

And is at the top of the leader board, after last night’s samba.

Well done, her!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23-4-2025 — By The Book

23rd April, 2025: By the Book/World Book Night.

Did I mention I’ve got a film on order … ?

I’ve got a film on order — The Rubber-keyed Wonder: 40 Years of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum — which should be with me, today.

In case you’re wondering … ?

It’s a documentary about one of Britain’s best known home computers: the ZX Spectrum.

I had one, myself.

Given that … ?

You can bet I was interested in get a copy of the documentary.

We’ll have to see if I can review it at some point.

Or find an online copy of Atic Atak.

That was possibly the best game written for the machine!

~≈🌈≈~

Today is Saint George’s Day, Payday … and probably a very good day to do shopping.

Now, really!

Except there’s an issue.

Yes: it’s officially bucketing down, out there.

I’ll tell you what: I think there’s going to be some very happy cabbies, out there!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18-6-2024 — Mr McCartney

18th June, 2024: Sir Paul McCartney.

It’s officially official: it’s Tuesday … !

But you knew that.

Personally … ?

I know I’m going to be stuck indoors, this morning.

I’m waiting for a phone call from my surgery, for my latest diabetic review.

Hopefully … ?

I’ll be able to get a replacement for the now unavailable trulicity, quickly.

~≈Ø≈~

You’re possibly very aware that there’s a general election due to take place in the UK: on the 4th July.

And that I’ll be voting Green: because of their offer to increase Universal Credit.

I did notice, however, that John Swinney — the Scottish First Minister — has proposed a social energy tariff: cheap energy prices for those of us on low incomes.

As someone on a cheap internet deal, a cheap deal aimed, again, at those of us low incomes?

I would seriously welcome that!

There’s only one problem.

Mr Swinney’s not standing in Essex: he’s the Scottish First Minister.

Frankly?

Social tariffs are needed south of Hadrian’s Wall, as well as north of it.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 25-2-2024 — Our George

24th February, 2024: Our George.

It’s officially the case … that I’m getting a certain amount of interest.

I’ve just reset my sister’s laptop: and have listed it on Facebook, this morning.

I’ve had about three people asking.

About it, already: including one who seems VERY interested!

We’ll have to see how that goes.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-12-2022 — Part of the Union.

30th December, 2022: Part of the Union.

Argh!

It’s Friday.

And … ?

You can tell I’m having a bad morning.

I’ve woken up … and found that the battery on my boiler — the wall mounted thing in the hall way — is on the go.

I’ve spent lord knows how long, this morning: on the phone to Robert Heath, the gas contractors, to get help.

They’re going to try and get someone to phone me — or email — to talk me through replacing them.

Here’s hoping.

~≈♨️≈~

Have you got your eyes on my YouTube channel?

If you do — or don’t — you may — or may not! — know I posted four videos, yesterday.

A review of Prey, for starters.

I’ve unboxed some Marmite;

And some Dr Who goodies;

That last one will grab people, I think.

I’ve read the opening story in Iron Legion — it’s called Iron Legion and brings back memories — and am looking forward to reading the rest.

I’ve ALSO got the second season of Classic Dr Who: as a bluray box set.

I’ve seen most of the episodes: bar The Crusade.

Which could well be one of the next things to review.

We’ll see.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 11-3-2021: Harold!

11th March, 2021.

Hmmm …

One upside of the whole Covid lockdown?

Is the fact that — in the quiet you get when there’s little travel, little in the way of traffic noise — you can hear birdsong.

OK: most birdsong is male birds say “STAY OFF MY BUSH,” as loudly as possible.

Or yelling “I’M SEXY: LET’S REPRODUCE,” as seductively as possible.

Today … ?

There’s none of that.

Not with the wind that’s going on … !

~≈🕊≈~

If you’ve been following Nik Nik’s Old Peculiar for the past few days?   You’ll’ve noticed I — like many of us — have been following the disappearance of Sarah Everard*.

Yesterday?   The policeman who was arrested for her kidnap has been re-arrested: on murder charges.

Yesterday?   Human remains were found: ones being linked to the case.

My sympathies are with the family.

My memory goes back to the Yorkshire Ripper.   And looks at the recent interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

And asks if Sarah Everard had been black, or a prostitute working in the area?

Would there be this level of press interest?

My cynical side says “No.”

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — Introducing The Beatles, Again … !

7th February, 2020.

Are you on Quora, at all?

It’s — how do I put this? — it’s a crowd-sourced, question answering website.

It’s …

Well, I find it a handy way to show off contribute things I’ve learnt to those who need help.

But … ?

But, lord, do you get some daft questions, sometimes.

I saw one a while back — ‘What’s the difference between gay men and straight men’ — that made me wonder.

Another — ‘What do British people eat’ — seriously had me wondering.

One, on Tuesday, caught me.

With GNR standing for band, Guns and Roses.   So you know.

Frankly?

That got me answering in my best ironic voice.

And wondering who lets these people near an internet connection!?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-6-2019: The End Of May.

7th June, 2019

Yep: Thursdays  are turning into something of a tradition.

Yep: my nephew, Jude … ?

Like’s making video.

Even if he does dry up in front of the camera … and have a Dominoes fixation …

Ahem … !

~≈§≈~

I have to confess, I’m … mildly sad today.

I was never a big fan of Dr John: but today?

Saw news of his death reach the UK.

Like I saw: I wasn’t a huge fan.

But?

I got sent a copy of his first album, Gris Gris, many years ago.

If you’ve not heard that?

It’s unlike anything I’d heard.

If you’ve not listened to it?

Well …

Now is possibly the time …

The man is no longer with us.

His music?   Coming out of a Louisiana swamp?   Is.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-3-2019: The Telescope

30th March, 2019.

Nice … ?

Nice … ?

You know my intro videos are getting more — mildly — ironic, the older I get.

Nice … is possibly not the word.

I got a letter from my GP’s, yesterday: after a recent set of blood tests, relating to my underachieve thyroid.

It turns out that, on top of everything else … ?

I’ve got a vitamin D deficiency: that, apparently, can exaggerate depression, cause fatigue … and cause issues with digestion.

Yeah … nice is possibly not the word …

Friday, 5 October 2018

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th October 2018.

5th October, 2018.

Yep.

I’ve officially had work phone me: to ask me to work, today.

Wouldn’t you know it.

They’ve done that …

On the same day I’m due to get my boiler fixed …

My mood, lifted last night by a good film — the David Bruckner directed, The Ritual — is ruined …

Oy … !

~≈§≈~

You can bet I’m having something of a weird mood …

One thing I AM looking forward to … ?

Is Sunday.

Shifts being what they are?

I’m off, Sunday.

So I’ll have a chance to catch that first episode, as it’s broadcast.

I’m …

Hoping it’s good.

And not as silly as some of the publicity …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-9-2017: Abbey Road

Hmmm …

That’s a bit … worrying …

If you’ve seen the news, you’ve possibly noticed the situation in North Korea.

The build up of — so far — words between the US and North Korea: one that’s involved a lot of nuclear tests, a lot of military build up.

And North Korea’s claim that — effectively — the US has declared war on it: and that it will shot down US bombers, should they come anywhere near.

I know Donald Trump want’s to make America great again.

I hope he doesn’t.

I get the feeling that Kim Jong-un wants to be taken seriously as an international figure, and will follow through on his threat: a threat Trump seems likely to react to.

And possibly call on US NATO allies to help in a potential war.

With the possible repercussions that implies.

Personally?

Right now, I’m hoping this will blow over.

I’m hoping my country won’t get involved in another iffy US war.

I’m hoping people don’t get killed as a result of an young man trying to show his country’s strength, and an old man’s attempt to make his country look good.

I’m worried those hopes might be pointless.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-10-2016: Meet The Beatles … AGAIN!

BLAST!

I forgot to put my alarm on!

I hate not putting my alarm on!

It throws my whole day out.

Right at the mo?

I’m glad I’ve not started work, yet: that could’ve gone all over the place!

The Brentwood Gazette’s Weekly Teaser — 1-6-2016: Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

Right …

It’s Wednesday, isn’t it?

Yes, it is.   Which means time off …

And a bit of hard works, actually: teasers to write, shopping to do, TV to catch up with.

There’s something else.

I think I might have to do … laundry … !

Oy veh …

The Daily Teaser — 9-1-2016: Death and Taxes

You know, it’s just occurred to me: today is the last Saturday I’ve got off, before I go back to work.

On Wednesday.

Personally … ?

I’m intent on enjoying it.   Well … enjoying the chance to go shopping in a comparatively unrushed way.

And to take my time, making the next set of Teaser videos.

Which will be good, hopefully: I’ve a few stinkers planned.

At least, I THINK I’ve got a few stinkers planned.

I couldn’t tell you.

My left nostril’s still blocked …

The The Daily Teaser — 22-3-2015: Introducing The Beatles …

Hmmm …

Looks like I can do that …

Sorry, I’ve been playing with my new phone, again … !

Turns out I can take photos: which you possibly guessed, hadn’t you … ?

These day’s, that’s a given.

But the camera on it?   Is one of those that can take panoramic photos.

Like the one I took, on Crown Street: just behind Brentwood High Street.

Hmm …

Nice to have, I think.

Although how much use it is to me?

Well, only time will tell …

The Daily Teaser — 1-6-2014: It Was Twenty Years Ago, Today

Well, that was …

Well …

Vaguely disturbing, now I try and remember it …

A vague disturbing dream, I should add: one where everyone in the area disappeared …

The silence being the scary part, there.

And then … ?   Just as I was getting to towards waking up … ?   The electricity — in my dream — powering the TV went off … !

Utter silence …

And a sense of complete isolation …

Nasty …

The Daily Teaser — 7-2-2014: Meet The Beatles

Have you ever read The Kraken Wakes, by John Wyndham … ?

The story tells of an alien invasion of Earth: by creatures that live on a gas giant, somewhat similar to Jupiter.   Which means they invade Earth’s deepest oceans: and, in order to expand their territory, they promote  LOTS of global warming, to make the oceans rise.

I can’t help but look out of my window, right now.

It’s raining.

And given the flooding we’re getting in parts of the UK … ?   I can’t help but wonder if Mr Wyndham had spotted something the rest of us haven’t …

~≈∑≈~

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and bagging four out of five.

Let’s see how she — and you — do with today’s Teaser, shall we?   Here it is, along with the How ToLicense and video

Brian Epstein, Beatles manager.
And this song …

Have a good day.

*        That’s me not explaining meself, well enough, isn’t it Debbi?!‽?   I was talking about the gold nugget I mentioned in the 5th Feb’s Teaser: it was about 11 and a half stone.   161lbs!   72kilograms!   About the same weight as a healthy fourteen year old!   I would love to find a gold nugget like that … !

The Daily Teaser: In Memory Of John Lennon — 8-12-2012

You know …

Tragedy seems to come in all sorts of shapes.

Obviously, Today’s Teaser covers a famous one.

But it seems that the nurse who took the prank call to the Duchess of Cambridge’s hospital has been found dead.

Reading between the lines, it sounds as if it were by her own hands, as a reaction to the call.

Lord knows what’ll happen there … but my condolences go to that nurses family.

Let’s get moving on, shall we?

John Lennon 9 October 1940 – 8 December 1980
And some instant karma …

*        The irony is, Debbi, that Starbucks aren’t the only ones: Amazon and Google have also been hauled before the relevant Parliamentary committee.
