Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — Introducing The Beatles, Again … !

7th February, 2020.

Are you on Quora, at all?

It’s — how do I put this? — it’s a crowd-sourced, question answering website.

It’s …

Well, I find it a handy way to show off contribute things I’ve learnt to those who need help.

But … ?

But, lord, do you get some daft questions, sometimes.

I saw one a while back — ‘What’s the difference between gay men and straight men’ — that made me wonder.

Another — ‘What do British people eat’ — seriously had me wondering.

One, on Tuesday, caught me.

With GNR standing for band, Guns and Roses.   So you know.

Frankly?

That got me answering in my best ironic voice.

And wondering who lets these people near an internet connection!?

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring ten out of ten.

Here’s a thought …
“We knew that America would make us or break us as world stars. In fact, she made us.”
Beatles manager, Brian Epstein‡.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        I’m thinking I should try and dig up Spartacus, Olga.   It’s about three hours, I know: but even given that?   It’s one of the best know films going.   (As I recall, Kirk was one of the first actors to set up his own production company: and did it to fund Spartacus.)

†        Oh, very true, Debbi.   I was thinking of you when I dug that quote up.   (Did you hear about Kirk Douglas?   The world’s lost a Hollywood giant: and the world’s oldest celebrity blogger!)

‡        There’s a  lot of people who’ve been called ‘the Fifth Beatle.’   Personally?   I think the title belongs to Brian Epstein, as much as anyone else.   After all, the band wouldn’t have been a success without his efforts: in organising publishing and record deals, arranging this first US tour … and in setting up the Beatles as a business, in the first place.   John Lennon, speaking of Epstein’s death in a 1970 interview?   Said “I knew that we were in trouble then … I thought, ‘We’ve f**king had it now.’”

Q1) 1964
Q2) Mop-heads
Q3) the Chelsea boot
Q4) Ed Sullivan Show
Q5) Beatlemania
Agreed on the fifth Beatle. Yes, Spartacus is a good bet. I watched a movie about Dalton Trumbo, 'Trumbo' recently (I've always been fascinated by him and the Hollywood Blacklist) and Kirk Douglas and Spartacus featured prominently. (Paths of Glory if you fancy an antiwar message, Stanley Kubrick, and you've never watched it. Here in Spain, it was banned for many years), The Vikings, The Bad and the Beautiful if you fancy a sharp look at Hollywood, and perhaps one of my favourites, Ace in the Hole (or the Big Carnival, it's been shown with both titles). This movie always comes to my mind where there is some catastrophe or some rescue operation and the media make a big circus out of it. A very cynical look at media and the press (well ahead of its time), and then there are some of the noir films and also the westerns...
Now Olivia de Havilland is the oldest glory still standing...
