Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 25th February, 2020.

25th February, 2020.

Right …

I’m left-handed.

You’ve possibly realised that, if you’ve been reading this blog for a while.

I’m a southpaw that’s always got my eyes peeled on design.

Kettles?   Have to have a measuring window on both sides.

Handles … ?   Door handles … ?   Don’t get me started on handles, scissors, steak knives, tin openers, what-have-you …

Oh … and mice.

Part of the reason I like Macs is the tradition one button mouse: you can change them to left handed use, simply by putting them on the left hand side of the desk.

Windows two button mice, by contrast?   You have to fiddle about, trying to find the relevant settings.   It’s doable*.   But fiddly.

Which is why I’m off to the library.

With Essex Library’s recent upgrade to Windows 10?   They managed to remove the ability to change mouse buttons around.

Something I complained about: both to the Library service, AND to my local county councillor, David Kendall.

He’s email, this morning, to tell me that the IT section has added a shortcut to the main desktop of Essex Library computers: something I didn’t notice, the last time I was there.

Hence another trip.

I won’t necessarily believe it: until I see it.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

“What I told an English reporter during an interview was that during the Third Reich I had the luck to be able to help two Jewish people, although I was a member of the Nazi party.”
Gert Fröbe, 25 February 1913 – 5 September 1988.
And a song^ …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        It’s a bad design choice, I feel.   Especially when you consider Bill Gates is left handed!

†        It’s tough on everyone, I think, Olga!   What can I tell you?   As for computers … ?   To paraphrase Stef Jobs, there’s one more thing …

‡        What can I tell you, Debbi?   It could equally been something at my end … !

^        There IS a song by Fröbe, in the film version of of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.   I just looked it up on Youtube.   I’m sticking with George, I think …

Funnily enough, on my Google feed this morning there was a post about how to configure a mouse if you are lefthanded on Windows 10. I've found many posts and videos about it online, but I'm sure you must have looked into it already and it seems logical they include a shortcut on the library page (mind you, I don't know how well appointed is your local library, because with all the cuts, they'll soon be back to having paper catalogues, methinks. The local library in Penistone was solely run by volunteers by the time I left).
