Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th August 2025.

14th August, 2025.

Right … I watched a little TV, last night: the first two episodes of a new series called Alien: Earth.

Yes, you’re right: it’s the latest entry in the successful Alien franchise, and set a couple of years before the original film.

To try and summarise?

The first episodes see a child called Marcy, a cancer patient, being transferred in to a new, android, body: and helping others through the same process: whilst yearning for contact with her only brother.

The episodes also see a spaceship crash on Earth, a spaceship that’s been investigating various alien lifeforms: including the franchise’s signature Xenomorph.

Yes: a Xenomorph is loose on Earth … and its brought its friends.

I’ve felt for years that expanding the Alien franchise — by properly exploring its background universe — would be a good thing.

And this series looks capable of doing that.

Talking of TV shows … ?

I’ve going to be watching the next episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, tonight.

And going to try And catch the next episode of Foundation, later in the week.

One thing I have noticed?

Is that Strange New Worlds seems to have plenty of merchandise — books, t-shirts, props, what-have-you — but that Apple’s Foundation doesn’t.

That’s a shame: a reproduction Prime Radiant would be nice!

As a final thought … ?

I was in Romford, yesterday: trading in my old phone at the Romford branch of CeX.

They were offering a better range of prices than the equivalent places in Brentwood.

I walked away from the trip, having sold the phone for thirty-one pounds.

Which therefore meant the new one, effectively, cost me some sixty-eight pounds*.

That’s not a bad price, from where I’m sitting.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-8-2024 — The Falkland Islands.

14th August, 2024: the Falkland Islands.

Right … Wednesdays … !

It’s officially Wednesday: and the day after my court hearing was cancelled.

I’ve climbed down a touch.

OK: I can understand the recent riots have caused delays …

But I’m still not happy about it.

You can possibly imagine!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th August 2023.

14th August, 2023.

Yes: it’s Monday, again.

And yes: I’m off to another weight management class.

Hopefully?

I would’ve lost some.

Here’s hoping.

~≈Ç≈~

One thing I do know about them?

Is that my weight has spiked, somewhat.

Generally, the trend has been down: but since switching from the coveted Ozempic, to Trulicity?

I’ve noticed my weight has gone up … and is now coming down, since switching.

My sugar levels are good: it’s just the weight seems noticeable.

Why is this happening?

I don’t know.

We’ll have to see what happens!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th August, 2022

14th August, 2022.

Yes: the BBC weather site’s predicting storms.

Thunderstorms: nice dramatic thunderstorms!

With thunder, lightning and rain.

For tonight.

In Scotland: rather than here in Brentwood.

Down here … ?   We’re still having a heatwave.

The sooner we get rain, here, the better!

Oh …

I caught another episode of Star Trek Picard, on Friday: and posted my written And video reviews last night.

And have to confess … Dr Jurati caught my eye: wondering around in that red frock.

We used to have a band — a soul covers band — that played at the Essex Arms, when I worked there.

The lead singer always brought a fan.   He said it was to help keep cool.

But given the long hair he had?   I suspect it was to make him look dramatic, look windswept and interesting.

The reasons I mention it … ?

Simply, I think this season of Star Trek Picard’s got a lot of shots of Alison Pill, with that dress, and her hair, billowing around as she walks down a sidewalk.

Personally?

I think she’s got a fan parked off camera … !

Black Widow — A Review

14th August, 2021.

It’s got to be said, I’m a man with time on his hand.

You’ve possibly guessed, haven’t you?

Pointless brain Teasers don’t happen by themselves, after all.

Neither do any other videos I make!

At any rate: I’ve time to watch the odd movie.

And had a choice of three, tonight: Censor, In The Earth … or Black Widow.

I went — as you’ve possibly guessed — for Black Widow.

I’ll tell you more, when I finish this post, tomorrow night.

But I think I’ve made an ungood* choice.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th August, 2021

14th August, 2021.

If you read yesterday’s teaser post?   You’ll have realised that there’d been a mass shooting in Plymouth: on Thursday.

The news was and is shocking.

As is another fact that’s emerged.

Apparently, the killer had his shotgun license withdrawn in December: his gun was seized at the same time.

Then given back in July, after going on an Anger Management course.

My cynical side … ?   Is telling me THAT worked … !

Less cynically?

I’m wondering what happened.

In hindsight — and I’ll admit it, hindsight is always twenty-twenty — it seems to have been a bad move …

~≈👁≈~

Oh, just in case you’re a fellow Mac user … ?   One who’s using macOS Big Sur?

macOS Big Sur 11.5.2 is now available through the usual route: via System Preferences.

As Macworld points out, though?

The notification from Apple says nothing about what’s in the update: simply that it contains bug fixes.

And, right now?

Apple’s own website doesn’t list the update.

Quite what’s happening there?

I don’t know.

The Mandalorian — Series 1 Chapter 4 — Sanctuary — A Review

14th August, 2020

It’s officially the case … that I’ve had a very long day.

Yep: the eased Lockdown means I’ve been able to look after my nephew, Jude.

Although, frankly?

I was up at five to do so.

A Teaser doesn’t write itself, after all.

~≈®≈~

At any rate … ?

I’ve actually had an evening meal that consisted of … well … toast … to be brutally honest.

A lunchtime pizza with my nephew?

Tend to be a little on the large side … and, frankly?   Left me thinking that watching a short TV show could be just the thing.

Yes: you’ve got it right.

I’ve seen another episode of The Mandalorian’s, first series.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th August, 2020.

14th April, 2020.

Yep: it’s official.

I’ve got up at silly o’clock!

Which I’m possibly going to pay for, later!

Especially as the expected thunderstorm — an incredibly dramatic thunderstorm — turned up, last night.

The reason I’m up so early?

I’m looking after my nephew, Jude, today.

Hopefully?   I won’t get two much fuss, heading into town with him, to bank a cheque.

The one from O2, finally turned up!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th August, 2018

14th August, 2018.

Right …

I’ve had a bed week at work, it has to said.

Bed week?

BAD week!

I’m right: when, in the intro video, I say I want to go back to bed!

It’s possibly a good way of spending my time!

~≈§≈~

Oh, as a thought … ?

You’ve possibly realised that long time Old Peculiar contributor, Debbi Mack, has — appropriately — a Mac.

AND a lot of recording gear.

Oh, and a copy of Final Cut Pro: a touch more feature rich than iMovie.

Given that … ?   Let me present …

It Happened in Howard County …

~≈§≈~

Oh, I’ve just had a quick look at a post — about left-handedness — I shared on Facebook, yesterday.

I think it’s going to generate arguments: about eating left handed.

Just so you know, the definition I heard, was not about which way around you use a knife and fork.

It’s the hand you use a spoon: or a fork on it’s own.

I’m a southpaw.   I use my left hand, so you know.

The Man in the High Castle — Series 1 — Episodes 9 and 10: Kindness and A Way Out

14th August, 2017.

Oh, I hate that when that happens …

You get a phone call … from a withheld number!

And right in the middle of things!

I’m JUST wondering if it was work: calling me in to say I’d misread my rota.

Or possibly regular contributor, Debbi Mack: who I know’s been meaning to try and call for a while.

Blowed if I know!

They withheld their number!

Don’t you just hate that … ?

There’s a couple of upsides, though.

Firstly?

If it wasn’t Debbi or work, it could WELL have some bloody idiot in a call centre, somewhere.

Trying to sell me a boiler.   Or help me with a PPI claim.   Or tell you their records show my PC is working slowly.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that me and the several Macs I’ve had AREN’T going to fall for that one!

The other upside … ?

Was that it didn’t spoil my evening.

Not with the last two episodes of series one of The Man in the High Castle involved it didn’t …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-8-2017

You know, there are time … when I wonder if the World Wide Web is joking.

Seriously.

I was wondering about, yesterday morning: whilst typing up the Left Hander’s Day post.

And searched for biblical quotes about left handedness: thinking something about the people of Beth-thingy smiting their enemies in Jeroba-do-dah, using their left hands, would look suitably impressive.

I found this page: advising people to stop being left handed on pain of being sent to hell.

http://www.landoverbaptist.net/showthread.php?t=49703

I’m seriously damned …

… if I know whether whoever posted the bloody thing is joking.

I’m left handed myself.

I’d imagine that most women, anyone gay, anyone of an Afro-Carribean background, spotting something like that?

Wouldn’t be sure, either.

And, like me?

Would be feeling vaguely offended: serious or otherwise.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-8-2016

How closely do you follow the news?

I do, especially if it’s something that interests me: technology, for example, of things about my favourite TV shows, or films franchises.

Or if it’s about social media I use.

Something that’s floated across my timelines, recently?   Is Facebook’s on-going legal attempts to stop the Ad-Block Plus extension from working on the site.

The plug-in is widely used — including by myself — to keep annoying ads off web pages one visits.

So, while I can appreciate Facebook NOT liking it — advertising is how the site makes its money, after all — I, personally, intend to keep using AdBlock Plus.

Having grown up on broadcasts from the BBC — broadcasts uninterrupted by adverts — I value not seeing them.

I think that’s worth annoying Facebook.
