Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7th March, 2025

7th March, 2025.

Right …

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’re very aware I’m trying to lose weight.

It’s something I’ve struggled to do for many years.

So … ?

I tend to be interested when something about weight-management crops up on the news.

Medications, lack of medications, what have you.

Today … ?

The Today programme tells us that research at Cambridge University has shown there’s a gene that affects the brains signals that tell us we’ve eaten enough.

And that we share this gene … with labradors.

It’s an interesting bit of science to know.

But I’m tempted — as I was in today’s intro video — to tell you I feel ruff … ruff ruff … ruff ruff ruff … bark … whine … woof … !

The most senior envoy from New Zealand, to the UK, was fired, yesterday.

As … ?

He’d apparently said the US president’s knowledge of history was flawed: and pointed out that — in his view — the President had never heard of Sudentenland.

The area in what had been Czechoslovakia that had a high number of German speakers: and was annexed by Germany’s Nazi regime, and led to Neville Chamberlain’s “Peace in our time” speech.

A speech that told us Germany had no more territorial claims.

A speech made less than a year before the German invasion of Poland.

A speech that, given that invasion, was deeply unwise.

Given that … ?

I think the President of the USA is going to look like the former PM …

And that New Zealand’s envoy had a point!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7th March, 2022

7th March, 2022.

Right … it’s a Monday: the start of a whole, wonderful new week.

Full of promise, hope … and possibly a little too much optimism!

At any rate … ?

I’ve a meeting with my Job Centre: by phone, thankfully.

Hopefully?   I’ll be able to raise some concerns I have: after a recent incident with a job I applied for.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7th March, 2021.

7th March, 2021.

Yep: that’s odd … !

There’s no birdsong!

There’s an unnerving lack of tweeting going on.

That’s …

That’s definitely odd!

You’re not in the UK, are you?

If you are, you’ve possibly seen this piece on the BBC’s news site: about a woman called Sarah Everard.

She disappeared on Wednesday night, walking home through Clapham Common.

Can I make a confession?

I’m think we’re going to see reports of a body being found.

Mostly?

Because this report reminds me — a lot — of the late 1970s: when Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper, was active.

His victims were all women, on their own, who were out at night.

As were many of the victims of killers, Steve Wright and Levi Bellfield.

I hope the young woman who’s missing is alive: and hiding for whatever reason.

But I’ve a nasty suspicion she’s dead …

I can only hope that — if that IS the case? — her attacker is caught quickly.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7th March, 2018.

7th March, 2018.

No, it’s true, I’ve got an earworm: and they always seem to turn up at the oddest times of the morning.

And … ?

It’s got to be said, it’s — possibly — one of the odder ones that my brain could throw at me.

Here …

There’s a distinct possibility that’s going to haunt me, all day …

Have you been watching the news?

You’d possibly have noticed the illness of a former Russian intelligence agent, Sergei Skripal, and his daughter, Yulia: APPARENTLY poisoned.

You’d think it’s from the pages of a bad spy novel.

Except, of course, it’s happened at least twice before: in the care of Alexander Litvinyenko and Georgi Markov.

You really couldn’t make it up*!

The Daily Teaser — 10-6-2014: Nice Legs, Shame About The Boat Race

Blimey … !

You probably worked out that yesterday saw me start at a work placement, at a local charity shop.

Tiring stuff, frankly.

But at least I can say I’m doing something positive with my time.

At ANY rate?

At any rate, I came home to rather shocking news: at least, for any one my age.

Comedian, Rik Mayall, died, yesterday.

Now, I don’t know if I was ever a fan, per se: both Filthy, Rich and Catflap and Bottom seemed to be repeating some of his and Ade Edmonson’s earlier work*.

But The Young Ones … ?

I think the sheer slapstick lunacy of The Young Ones — which Mayall appeared in, and co-wrote — managed to burn itself into the minds of a generation: and ended up as reciteable as any of Monty Python sketch, or quote from Blackadder.

Comedy genius?

I couldn’t tell you if Rik Mayall was or wasn’t a comedy genius.

But he made me — and many others — laugh.

Can a comic ask anymore?
