Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-10-2025 — Speaking in Tongues

3rd October, 2025: Speaking in Tongues.

Yesterday was Yom Kippur: the Jewish Day of Atonement, the holiest day of the Jewish year.

The day when Britain’s Jewish community would be praying, fasting and seeking forgiveness for the sins of the past year.

And the day when an attacker killed two people at a Manchester synagogue: something police are calling a terrorist attack.

It’s …

I’m having to think about wording, here.

You and I may not like the actions of the Israeli government in Gaza.

I know I don’t: I think the actions of Netanyahu’s government border on religiously-motivated genocide.

I disagree with that government’s actions.

That does not give me the right to kill, injure, or maim, people for being Jewish, nor does it give me the right to kill people at prayer.

It gives no-one the right to kill!

I’ve long felt killing in the name of a cause is a bad way of promoting it, is tantamount to invalidating it.

That’s what the killer did, yesterday.

In taking the lives of at least two people, he has not promoted cause of the people of Gaza.

He’s killed it: as certainly as he’s killed Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz, his victims.

~≈✡️≈~

A few days ago … ?

I told you of the government’s proposed digital ID: and of how there was a petition against it.

I object: largely on the grounds of cost.

But also as I feel that making it mandatory — as Sir Keir Starmer was proposing — is a bad move.

And a waste of effort: as most of us who are hunting, already have valid ID.

At any rate, if you’re in the UK, I’d appreciate you signing that petition.

Every little helps, and all that!

But I should add a few things.

The web site tells us enough signatures have been gathered: and that the petition must be debated in Parliament.

And tells us that the government has responded.

By telling us:
“We will introduce a digital ID within this Parliament to help tackle illegal migration, make accessing government services easier, and enable wider efficiencies.   We will consult on details soon.”
They also tell us:
“… there are too many people who are excluded, like the 1 in 10 UK adults who don’t have a physical photo ID, so can struggle to prove who they are and access the products and services they are entitled to.”
And that:
“It will not be compulsory to obtain a digital ID but it will be mandatory for some applications.”
There’s possibly a ton of things, there.

The one in ten adults the response tells us “don’t have a physical photo ID”?

Do they have smart phones?

That’s the point that my objections hinged on: if you don’t have/can’t afford a smart phone, you can’t have this ID.

An ID that the response tells us isn’t compulsory to have … but whose use is mandatory.

Either the government has no idea what it’s saying.

Or its use of double speak is improving.

Or … ?

It’s all mouth and trousers.

In the midst of all that … ?

I’m actually up, early: and was hoping to get out early.

I’ve an optician’s appointment, today!

Heigh ho!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd October 2024.

3rd October, 2024.

It’s official: it’s Thursday.

And I still have no payment from the Department of Work and Pensions.

This time last week, I was the plaintiff — defendant? — in a tribunal to determine if I was eligible for Personal Independence Payment.

A tribunal that went my way.

And — if I’ve understood the dates, correctly — will involve a large back payment,

Which would be appreciated: it would allow me to get some new furniture, furniture I feel would help ease my chronic joint pain.

But … ?

As of half an hour ago, there’s nothing in my account.

And … ?

According to the call centre agent I spoke to, yesterday, at the DWP?

That payment could take ‘a few weeks’.

And that I’d probably have to wait for another letter.

Do you ever get the feeling this is going to take a while … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd October 2023.

3rd October, 2023.

Yes: it’s Tuesday!

And?
  • Hopefully, Jude — my nephew — will have a change of clothes, when he comes over!
  • I can get some sleep!
Frankly?

I was up, late, last night: finishing my video review of Threads.

Hopefully, it’ll get a few views!

(Just so you know?   It’s about the TV film, Threads: possibly the most frightening movie ever made.)

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd October, 2022.

3rd October, 2022.

Yes!

I’m excited.

Ish!

Slightly excited … ish.

If that’s a valid set of words in the English language.

At any rate, I’m mildly excited … no, that’s possibly the wrong word.

I’m looking forward to heading into town, today.

I’m picking up my new glasses.

You’re excited, aren’t you … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd October, 2021

3rd October, 2021.

Yes: it’s Sunday.

And yes: I’m frankly expecting it to be quiet.

But with a distinct possibility the weather’s going to be better than yesterday’s.

Yesterday’s … was distinctly soggy.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-10-2020: Reunification Day

3rd October, 2020.

Right: I think I can safely say I’m expecting a phone call, today.

From the police.

I’ve agreed to give a statement, and prosecute, my mystery visitor.

Apparently?   He’s local, and known to police.

Assuming we can get an extra witness to say what he was doing … and get him put away for long enough to do a prison rehab course.

We know President Trump’s ill.

There’s possibly a funny comment or two, there!

At ANY rate: President Trump is ill with Covid-19.

I’m not fond of the man so seeing him out of office? Would be fine by me.

Seeing him ill is … concerning.

Purely because of the uncertainty his condition introduces.

After all: what happens to the USA election … if he dies this close to US Election Day?

I know Vice President Mike Pence would take over the job for the duration.

Which would possibly be a good thing: the man looks considerably more presidential than his boss.

But … ?

I don’t know what would happen to the Republican ticket: were President Trump to drop dead on November 2nd.

~≈†≈~

Just as a final, Covid (ish) thought?

No Time to Die, the most recent James Bond film was due to be released in November: after being pushed back from April, 2020, due to Covid 19.

The BBC’s news site?   Now tells us it’s been delayed until April, 2021.

Frankly?

Eon might want to think about a VOD release.

They might be struggling for money …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-10-19: The OJ Simpson Trial

3rd October, 2019.

Right …

It’s definite: the stuff I’ve ordered from Amazon has now been officially despatched, and is on route.

And is due to turn up, by eight PM, tonight.

Here’s hoping …

~≈≈~

If you’ve been listening to the news, today?

You’ll realise that Royal Air Force  pilot, Flight Lieutenant Mathew Stannard, is going to become the first RAF pilot to launch a satellite.

In a modified Boeing 747.

It’s going to be launching a satellite!

All good.

Except, of course, I’m one of many people who are aware of the Black Arrow project.

The UK’s cancelled satellite launching project from the mid sixties.

The one satellite we launched is still up there.

Yes: it’s nice we doing something.

But the something we’re doing is catching up: with Elon, Jeff and the rest of the gang.

When we should have been one of three nations leading the pack.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd October 2018

3rd October, 2018.

Yep: I have to admit, my bleak mood managed to finish, last night.

I think I owe both Debbi and Olga a big thank you for the concern, there … !

At ANY rate?

The bleak mood was something that died …

Thankfully.

~≈§≈~

At ANY rate … ?

I managed to catch myself a movie, last night.

He say, making assorted ‘Yay’ noises.

The 2014 Gareth Edwards directed version of Godzilla.

Having completely forgotten I’d already seen it.

Can you do me a favour?

Remind me not to do that, again!

Cheers.

~≈§≈~

Oh, JUST as a final point … ?

It seems someone in the US has invented a pair of sunglasses that can block screens.

Frankly?

Peril sensitive sunglasses are on the way …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd October, 2017

Hmmm …

He says …

I am facing time off.

Unpaid time.

As I’ve gone from thirty odd hours, last week, down to some fifteen, this week.

This means several things.

Frankly?

I’m job hunting.

I had a job interview, last week.   I’m trying to NOT get my hopes up: in case I don’t get the position.   But, given it’s extremely local, given the hours, And given it would be saving me a lot in terms of transport?

It’s one I dearly want.

Right now?

Right now, though, I’m listening to Radio 4’s Today programme, where Theresa May is droning on about whatever it is Brexit Bothered PM’s drone on about.

And thinking her problem are less immediate than the metaphorical lottery ticket I bought last Thursday.

Waiting — basically — to hear if I’ve won something.
