So, it’s another weigh-in, at the usual place.

And, given I gained half a kilo, last week?

I’m hoping I’ve lost something this week.

If you could keep your fingers crossed for me, I’d appreciate it.

Is get some olive oil.

I suffer with earwax.

There’s plenty of ways of dealing with that.

But … ?

I usually find putting olive oil in my ear, helps.

I’m looking forward getting hold of some.

Right at the moment, B. A. Robertson sounds very muffled …

I’ve officially woken up with an earworm!

Jain’s Makeba, so you know.

Or, at least, I’ve woken up with bits of it floating around my head: the ‘ooo-eee-woo’ bits used in today’s introduction video.

Why … ?

Well … 

I noticed Jain’s possibly left-handed in that video: given the way she pops balloons and paints zebras.

But didn’t manage to confirm that with a written source — her Wikipedia entry — until a day or two ago.

A day or two ago … and a couple of days after I’d written this year’s ten-question, Left-handers day quiz*.

My timing’s abysmal … !

Right, then: it’s Saturday.

And I’ve just had a phone call from — assuming I’ve used my landline handset correctly — 01899 565244.

Yes: you’re right.

Two minutes to eight in the morning, and I’ve got myself a Microsoft Technical Department scammer phoning!

I actually strung him along for about five minutes.

It turns out that he had the wrong address listed for me.

The right post code, right phone number, but the wrong address.

And — as always in these situations — thought I had a Windows PC.

Like I say … it took me five minutes or so to explain Macs didn’t need security updates from Microsoft!

Hey … ho!

It’s official: it’s rained over night!

And, by the sound of my neighbours, chatting outside … ?

We’re going to be expecting more, later.

I hope so.

After the recent heatwave, that’s going to be welcome.

Right … about the washing machine … 

I went into the shop I got it from, yesterday.

Complete with the details of my washing machine, and as much info as I could muster.

And managed to get a copy of the all-important receipt, and the model number.

According to the shop — Mackfields, at Brentwood High Street — I needed to phone Hotpoint: the machines manufacturers.

Which I did, yesterday afternoon.

By mobile, as I was in town: the signal’s better, and it’s cheaper than my landline.

They were happy to arrange for an engineer: after explaining the circumstances under which I might be charged.

To cut a long story, short*?

Their engineer’s coming on Friday.

Hopefully?   I’ll dodge any fee!

Right … I’m now the official owner of a rat trap.

With bait, I should add: little octagonal, poisoned, blocks of rat poison.

Which is nice.

But … ?

The few videos I’ve seen, that show you how to handle rat poison … ?

Have the person placing it, wearing gloves to protect themselves.

To make sure the poison doesn’t get on their hands, then get transferred to their mouths.

Could I find any in Sainsbury’s, yesterday?

Could I … ?

Could I, heck … !

I think I’m going to have to have another look … in a different shop … !

I’m on Quora, so you know: the website that lets you ask and answers questions.

And I have to admit, it makes for both riveting reading … and riveting writing.

Especially for those of us who like the chance to share our knowledge …

Or ‘show off,’ as my mother insists on calling it …

Yep: ‘strange mood’ is one way of putting it.

I think I’m getting a sense of general malaise: caused by the simple fact today is payday … 

And the money I get … isn’t going to last much beyond today.

Wouldn’t you know it … ?

I do know that — last year — I got a tax rebate.   An honest to God, tax rebate.

Enough to put a chunk towards my rent, and get a new pair of glasses.

I’ve not had the form that tells me if I’m due another, this year.

And, frankly?   Much as I’d LOVE a great big chunk of money landing on my doorstep, I’m also realistic enough to realise I’ve never had a tax rebate, two years in a row.

I should coco … !

I’m convinced that — the older I get? — the more I start to feel the heat.

Or, at least, the theoretical heat.
