Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th July 2026.

28th July, 2026.

Late nights …

We all get them, don’t we … ?

I (almost) had one last night.

I was just getting ready for bed … and then noticed the little red dot on my System Settings, the little red dot that told me I had an available update.

Given I wanted to sleep … ?

I decided to leave it: for now.

That bed of mine looked comfy!

~≈🛌≈~

It turns out The Times ran an article: telling us news I’m interested in.

It seems the Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, is contemplating reforming the election system.

To introduce both compulsory voting — with a £10 fine — and a ‘None of the Above’ option to the ballot.

I don’t like the idea of compulsory voting: it means we, the voter, cannot ignore an election if we don’t want to take part in it.

I don’t like the idea of compulsory voting: that earns you a fine.

For me, £10 is a few days worth of electricity, a few days worth of gas, a bag of frozen sausages, and some potatoes.

So?

No: I don’t want to see compulsory voting.

But putting a ‘None of the Above’ option on the ballot?

Is something I’ve supported for years …

That, or spoiling one’s vote, are very good ways of improving a ballot.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th July 2025 (Six Questions)

28th July, 2025.

Bugger!

In the midst of joy for the England team … ?

In the midst of that joy … ?

My washing machine has developed a fault!

Yep: something’s causing a blockage, somewhere.

Granted, I’ve managed to unblock the filter at the bottom of the machine: but … ?

I don’t think the filter’s the real issue.

I bet you something else is causing the problem.

Thankfully, it’s still under guarantee: so any repairs should keep the cost down.

~≈🧺≈~

There’s sad news, today …

It seems mathematician, Tom Lehrer, has died.

I honestly couldn’t tell you about his scientific work … but do know his music.

He’ll be much missed.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th July 2024

28th July, 2024.

Ah HA!

It’s Sunday!

Which, frankly?

I’m expecting to be quiet, again.

Bar one thing.

Would you believe, I’m going to be organising my calendar.

I’ve got an appointment at Basildon Hospital on the 6th August: for a colonoscopy.

And … ?

Need to organise a lot of reminders: to remind myself to:
  • Take one set of laxatives, over the course of the week.
  • Take another set of laxatives over the course of the week
  • Go on a restricted diet over the last three days.
  • And take my bowel prep on the last day.
I know it’s for a good cause.

Trust, I know!

~≈∑≈~

Oh, JUST as a thought … ?

In the wake of the San Diego Comic Con, a clip of Star Trek: Strange New World’s third season has been released.

Now that … ?

Looks fun!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-7-2023 — Bernard Cribbins.

28th July, 2023: Bernard.

Right … I have to confess to feeling a bit … stressed.

Although maybe I should add some emphasis, there, and right it as stressed.

Today is, after all, the day I’m due to have my Pay-as-you-Go utility meters replaced.

I am as nervous as anything.

After all, for me, these things are very new technology.

~≈¥≈~

At any rate … ?

The engineer’s due, today.

Between now, and twelve.

Here’s hoping it’s quick: and easy to set up.

~≈¥≈~

Either way?

If this post is up late?

It’s because The engineer’s turned off the electricity …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-7-2022 — Peru

28th July, 2022.

Arghrghrgh!

I’m up early: as I have another of the monthly meetings for my weight management programme.

Which are usually enjoyable: and very sociable.

Except, of course, I managed to stay up, late last night: finishing my most recent written and video* reviews of another episode of Stranger Things.

One of these days?

I swear, I’ll learn!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th July, 2021.

28th July, 2021.

Yes: I’ve had stuff delivered from Amazon.

Small, cheap stuff, it has to be said.

Or stuff that can be easily resold at my local CeX: a copy of Class springs to mind, there.

One of those things?

Is possibly the best single purchase I’ve made on Amazon.

Yes: I’ve bought a backscratcher.

JUST to get to those awkward crevices!

~≈fi≈~

One earlier purchase?

Was Orwell’s Homage to Catalonia: which I’m almost at the end of.

It’s … quite a read: telling us exactly how harsh a civil — indeed any — war can be.

And something I can’t help but quote: and recommend.
“In case I have not said this somewhere earlier in the book: beware of my partisanship, my mistakes of fact, and of the distortion inevitably caused by my having seen only one corner of events.   And beware of the same things when you read any other book on this period of the Spanish war.”

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-7-2020: World Hepatitis Day

28th July, 2020.

Right … things are both happening … and not happening.

I’ve had the scan.

And, as nerve-racking as waiting for the results are, I’m now waiting for the results.

Last year?   I was clear of any nasties: I’m hoping this year will be the same.

Although one never knows until the results are in.

Giving that — potentially — a bad results means a case of lung cancer?

You can possibly appreciate that — even given I’m mildly agnostic, to say the least — I’m quietly praying …

~≈¥≈~

In other news … ?

I’ve been in tough with the dentist: which is nice.

Apparently?   I have to wash my mouth out with salt water: THEN get back to them on earth, if my tooth hasn’t stopped wobbling.

~≈¥≈~

O2 …

Oh, dear, O2 …

They did manage to phone me: when I was on the bus coming back from Basildon.

They DID talk me through a basic solution, that ‘should help’: changing the default network from 4g to 3g: then to 2g, if that didn’t work.

Oh, and usually restarting, as well.

It didn’t work: I tried it when I got in.

I have managed to do some digging about.

The phone mast was on the roof of 130, Kings Road.

This building.

Opposite the Premier Inn, do you know.

I’ve done some digging.

It seems the reason the mast got taken down, is so the workmen working on the building can do they job.

According to this set of plans, with Brentwood Council?

So that the building can have two extra stories added to the thing.

Seemingly, they’re going to be flats.

How long that’s going to take?   The plans don’t say.

But … ?

I honestly think the mast will go back up, once the flats get finished.

We — O2’s paying customers — won’t get a signal until then.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th July, 2019

28th July, 2019.

Yep, I’ve got an interview on Tuesday: at one.

In a local shop!

Well, localish.

Over in Pilgrim’s Hatch, near where my daily lives.

Hopefully?

I might just end up with a job out of it.

That’s assuming I actually here back from them!

~≈†≈~

Oh …

I have to admit, I’ve got Radio 4 on, at the mo.

I’m not especially religious: but the Sunday morning service can be rather relaxing.

I did notice the news, though.

That the government is now working on the assumption that the UK is heading for a no-deal Brexit.

I’m …

I’m someone who voted Remain: and would do so again, were the option put to a second referendum.

So … ?

Frankly, any kind of Brexit* is something I don’t want.

Especially?   Especially a no deal one.

~≈†≈~

Oh, one last thing … ?   Something else floated across my news feeds.

It seems a British teenager is half of the duo that one the relevant event at the Fortnite World Cup, yesterday.

And won a mind-boggling amount of money as a result.

I’m not someone who plays it … but I’m willing to bet my nephew’s going to be interested …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th July 2018

28th July, 2018

Yep!

We’ve had — for the first time since at least May — we’ve had …

Wait for it …

Rain … !

Frankly, I’m thankful.

It means today looks like’s going to be genuinely cooler than it’s been.

Than. heavens for that!

~≈§≈~

As another point … ?

And just quickly?

It seems the cast of Star Wars Episode 9 have been announced: and adds Richard E. Grant to the regulars.

You can just tell the former Great Intelligence will be playing a member of the First Order, can’t you … ?

It sounds good.

But?

I don’t know about you, but I’m very aware there’s no new footage of the late Carrie Fisher in there.

Nothing new from one of the cast members who shaped both modern sci-fi, the Star Wars franchise, and — in her role as a script doctor — even Hollywood, itself.

Nothing …

I … am still sad about that woman’s death, even now …

I can only hope Star Wars Episode 9 is a good memorial.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-7-2017: Goin’ Back To Miami

I THINK I’m going to have to come up with something …

That’s right.

I’m going to have come with an excuse to have an early night!

Right now … ?

I’m rather tired: after staying up late, watching two more episodes of The Man In The High Castle.

It’s slow.

But I think it’s worth the effort …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-7-2016

Well, that was quick … !

I — very occasionally — order stuff from Amazon.

And WAS expecting a pair of trousers to turn up: any day between today, and Monday.

Nice and quick, in other words!

About the only problem, and one I’ve just reported?

Is that the tradesman entrance button — the one the postman would use to gain entry to the building — seems to be …

Well, I would say defective.   I’ll settle, instead, for saying it does’t work.

Here’s hoping it gets fixed, soon.
