Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-11-2025 — Yugoslavia

29th November, 2025: Yugoslavia.

Right, it’s now Saturday …

And I’m still having earworms.

Yes: Sheldon Cooper’s still playing the blessed bongos in my head!

Why … ?

If I could work that out, or why the bongos are following the Yugoslav Dalek around, I’d make a big fortune … !

I was in town, yesterday: picking up a few bits.

And, on the way back … ?

Got passed by a police car: and a fire engine.

And heard what turned out to be an ambulance, as well.

It turns out there’s been a fire in a house not far from where I live: something a neighbour managed to grab a photo of.

Going by the damage in that photo?

And assuming it IS of where the fire happened?

It’s quite serious: so the talk that someone died in the fire, understandable.

And a tragedy …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-11-2024 — Vanuatu.

29th November, 2024: Vanuatu.

Right … I am officially up — and showered — early.

Yes.

I’m expecting another visit from an occupational therapist: from my GP surgery.

She’s the one who managed to get hold of the bath chair for me: and — once she realised I’d find a step stool handy — offered to do another visit.

Just to — you know — assess things.

Here’s hoping things go well.

~≈🪑≈~

You’re possibly aware that — here in the UK — the House of Commons is to have its second reading of an assisted dying bill: a private members bill called the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill.

It’s getting a lot of reporting, understandably: with many — on the Today programme, at least — putting the bill on a par with the ones that legalised homosexuality or abortion, and that ended capital punishment.

An assisted death isn’t something I see myself — as I am, today — wanting or needing.

Nor — as they are today — is it something I seem my friends and family wanting or needing.

But … ?

Ever since the death of Sir Terry Pratchett — after years of struggles with Alzheimers, and his own campaign in support of assisted death — I’ve concluded physician-assisted deaths must be made UK law.

Or, at least, law in England and Wales, as this bill lays out.

It’s something I feel is truly on a par with abortion.

You may not want one: I may not want one.

That does not mean an abortion — or a dignified death of our own choosing — should not be legally available.
“If I knew that I could die, I would live.   My life, my death, my choice.”
Shaking Hands with Death, Richard Dimbleby Lecture by Sir Terry Pratchett.

From the grim, to the ridiculous.

I have to confess, I’ve woken up with an earworm.

“Jai-ho”: the Pussycat Dolls version, rather than the version from Slumdog Millionaires.

Quite why the chorus left me in tears, I don’t know!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th November, 2023.

29th November, 2023.

Yes: that’s right.

It’s Wednesday.

The day after Tuesday: rather than the Addams Family’s eldest child.

At any rate … ?

It’s Wednesday, and I’m feeling just a bit tired.

Doing three reviews does mean I’m up late!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th November 2022.

29th November, 2022.

It’s Tuesday: you can tell, can’t you … ?

And it’s the day after my nephew, Jude, was over.

Yes: he’s made another video!

He’s made a new channel trailer!

Feel free to hit the like button.

The music — by Ali A — is rather good.

Ha!

Elon Musk is at it again!

You’ll know he’s recently bought Twitter.

Which is partly why I’ve moved to Mastodon: I’m @Cuddy2977@mastodon.world, so you know.

At any rate … ?

Elon’s kicking off, again*†: complaining that Apple have stopped advertising on the site, that they’re threatening to pull Twitter from the App Store and that they charge too much commission for apps.

Which is funny: the iOS version, like the Android App, is free.

Saying that … ?

I wouldn’t be complaining, too loudly, if I were him.

Apple still sell a lot of phones.

Complaining about it … ?   Could lose him customers.

~≈Ω≈~

I’ve got a meeting, today: my last meeting with the Restart work programme I’ve been attending for the past year.

Thankfully?

And as I can’t afford the train fare, and the person who arranges the train tickets is off ill?

It’s by phone: as the exit meeting doesn’t need to be in person.

I can only hope it goes well.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th November, 2021

29th November, 2021.

Right, OK …

You’re possibly aware — as I — that COVID’s still doing the rounds.

Indeed, you’re possibly aware that a case of the new Omicron variant’s been spotted in Brentwood.

What I didn’t know, until yesterday … ?

Is that one case … ?   Has been spotted in KFC: where I worked, many years ago.

I’m glad I’m not there, anymore!

~≈🍗≈~

Talking of COVID?

The full mask restrictions haven’t quite come into play, yet.

That happens tomorrow.

Which means my first Restart meeting — the only one that happens, in town — is today.

Next month’s moves to Chelmsford.

We’ll have to see how that goes.

~≈🦠≈~

Oh …

Just in case you’re interested, my written review of last night’s episode of Dr Who can be found, here.

Or — assuming you’re not sick of the sound of my voice … ? — you can watch the video version.

Right at the moment … ?

I’m just wondering if my speculation’s right: is Bel’s Baby the Doctor … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-11-2020: I Want To Hold Your Hand.

29th November, 2020.

It’s got to said, I’ve woken up to issues.

It turns out that some videos — ones I directly upload to a post, and represented by the blue square in the accompanying picture — don’t play.

Or, at least, haven’t played for a couple of days.

I got tipped off about it by both Trevor and Debbi, when they left they’re answers on yesterday’s Teaser: thanking you both.

I’ve filled out the relevant forms in Google’s online Help form: and posted a question on the Google Communities.

We’ll have to see how that goes.

At any rate … ?

If you’re reading this, could you let me know which one of the above videos plays?

I’d appreciate it.

~≈Â≈~

At any rate, and on other fronts … ?

I’ve noticed the rather sad news about the death of actor and bodybuilder, Dave Prowse.

At 6’6”?   The man was a giant.

But also left an impression in other ways.

As a bodyguard …

As the Green Cross Code Man …

And, of course, as Darth Vader …

He’ll be much missed …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th November, 2019.

29th November, 2019.

Hmmm …

Did I mention I’m jobhunting?

I’m jobhunting … so you know.

And have to report into the Job Centre, every couple of weeks.

And follow any suggestions they make.

They’ve suggested one: a course at a local venue, covering interview technique, and various other bits.

It sound like it could be useful.

But lord, it’s a bit of a walk away … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th November, 2018.

29th November, 2018.

Right … I think I’m …

Actually, not nervous.

I’ve an interview, later today, for the soon to open Burger King.

I’m not nervous, believe it or not.

Or, at least not as nervous as I would be, running a pub quiz for the first time.

Either way?

Wish me luck!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th November, 2017.

Blimey …

That’s a rarity …

I’m a Mac fan: noted for it, in fact.

Partly, because it’s got a better reputation for security.

So I was mildly surprised to hear that there’s a security flaw in the latest version of macOS operating system, called High Sierra*.

Apparently, and if you have physical access to the machine, you can go to log in page, type in ‘root’ in to the name field, then hit enter a few times.

It logs you in: and logs you in as a root user: with seriously powerful access to every aspect of the machine.

However, Apple has issued a work-around — here, in the Change the Root Password section — and is working on an update that plugs the flaw.

Hopefully?

That should solve things.

Right now, though?

That’s quite a slip for a company with such a good rep for security.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-11-2016

Hmmm …

Barry Bennell has been been found unconscious: by his local police.

If you didn’t know?   Bennell is the sex offender named in recent news stories: many members of assorted football teams youth arms have come forward to tell how he abused them as children, and used his position as a coach to do so.

Personally?

I think he’s been attacked, after these stories have come out.

Given the long term harm that child abusers do?

I can’t say I’m surprised.

And I can’t say I blame whoever did that.

~≈Ê≈~

While I’m on the subject, though … ?

I can’t help but notice that — according to the report about Bennell — various football teams have started investigating any historical abuse.

I also get the impression that most teams — now — have much improved child protection measures in place.

Which is good.

But?

I wouldn’t expect the various teams to say so.

But I’m wondering this.

When DID teams start checking for historical abuse?

I can only hope someone starting making noises …

After the truth about Savile came out …
