Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th November, 2021

29th November, 2021.

Right, OK …

You’re possibly aware — as I — that COVID’s still doing the rounds.

Indeed, you’re possibly aware that a case of the new Omicron variant’s been spotted in Brentwood.

What I didn’t know, until yesterday … ?

Is that one case … ?   Has been spotted in KFC: where I worked, many years ago.

I’m glad I’m not there, anymore!

~≈🍗≈~

Talking of COVID?

The full mask restrictions haven’t quite come into play, yet.

That happens tomorrow.

Which means my first Restart meeting — the only one that happens, in town — is today.

Next month’s moves to Chelmsford.

We’ll have to see how that goes.

~≈🦠≈~

Oh …

Just in case you’re interested, my written review of last night’s episode of Dr Who can be found, here.

Or — assuming you’re not sick of the sound of my voice … ? — you can watch the video version.

Right at the moment … ?

I’m just wondering if my speculation’s right: is Bel’s Baby the Doctor … ?

~≈👩🏻‍⚕️≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Edith†, Debbi‡ and Mum^, putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum and Edith on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1)        The Beatles song, I Want to Hold Your Hand, was released in the UK: on 29th November, 1963.     It would have become №1 on the day of its release: had it no been blocked by a song by which band?

Q2)        29th November is Liberation Day, where: Albania, Brazil or Croatia?

Q3)        29th November, 1947, saw the UN announce its plans to partition where: Palestine, Ireland or Korea?

Q4)        The first commercially released video game was released on 29th November, 1972.   Which game was it: Pong, Space Invaders or Donkey Kong?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Diane Ladd was born on 29th November, 1935.   She plays Flo in which 1974 film?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        28th November is Independence Day in Panama.   Marking its independence from where: Spain or Portugal?
A1)        Spain.

Q2)        Panama became independent in which year: 1821, 1822 or 1823?
A2)        1821.

Q3)        Panama’s stretches from Central America to where: North America or South America?
A3)        South America.

Q4)        What’s Panama’s capital city?
A4)        Panama City.

Q5)        Finally?   Panama uses two currencies.   The Balboa is one.   What’s the other: the US dollar, the Canadian Dollar or the Pound Sterling?
A5)        The US Dollar.
Here’s a thought …
“I like to let my football do the talking, I’m respectful of other good teams such as Arsenal.”
Ryan Giggs, born 29th, November 1973.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Edinburgh’s supposed to be one of the cities, Olga, I know that.   You know … there’s a quiz master called Paul Diamond working the Edinburgh circuit, if that’s what they’re after.
I think Omicron’s going to put a crimp on things, I think.   International travel’s going to get rough, I know that.   I think we’re going to need to cross everything.
Oh … you and Nina get a mention in the Dr Who review: funny how doors creep up …

My pleasure, Edith!   Oh, did I mention I’ve got Spotify on in the background?   It’s throwing some good tunes at me: tunes with very good rhythm guitar!

I’m definitely hanging, Debbi!   I’m just glad I’ve not been to KFC for a while!   It could have been hairy.   Oh, have you caught Survivors of the Flux, yet … ?   I wanted to wave an idea at people …

Q3) Palestine

Q4) Pong

Q5) Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore
Oh, wow, that's scary about KFC. The last thing you (or anybody) needs. Let's hope at least the new variant isn't any more lethal, but it's bad news nonetheless.
Thanks for the tip on Edinburgh. I haven't seen the girl for quite a while now, so I'm not sure what she might be into (she liked reading and was quite fond of Math when she was a young child, her father is a Maths lecturer, but now... who knows?).
Thanks for the mention as well. Perhaps I'll get into series at some point. At the moment, I'm testing the waters with The Wheel of Time, because Amazon kept pestering me about it (and everybody on Prime, evidently). As they only upload an episode every Friday, at least I don't feel the pressure so much (so far, we've watched two, and there are 4 up, so we shall see. Considering there are 13 books, it could get very long...)
But I find random things I quite enjoy. Yesterday they were showing a film from the 1950s, co-production, Spanish and Mexican, called "El ojo de cristal" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0048442/
and really enjoyed it. You can see a pretty different Barcelona as well there.
Good luck with the meeting (oh, here they never lifted the rule for wearing masks inside, so no difference there).
