9th November, 2021.
I’ve got a meeting, today: with my case worker from the Job Centre.
By phone, so you know.
My case worker’s based in the Basildon office: I’ve made the case that my getting a bus there — and her covering the ticket money — is not a good use of government funds.
We’ve a few things to discuss.
Not least a course she want me to take, that’s supposed to help get ma job in the Civil Service.
One I don’t think would help.
Especially as there seem to be no Civil Service jobs advertised I’m qualified for, and within transport reach.
I’m …
Well …
We’ll have to see.
Let’s move on, shall we?
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Edith†, Mum‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, Edith on four, and Mum on three.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

And some music …
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* It should be on iTunes, Olga. Or Amazon Prime. Or Netflix. Or DVD. Or Blu-ray. Or … yes, you get my point!
At ANY rate, the pest control man’s coming tomorrow at ten: they phoned me, yesterday afternoon. (Everyone in my building’s been referring to him as ‘the rat man.’ Which has turned into an earworm!)
† I have to catch up with you, Edith, I’ve never actually seen a Bollywood movie!
‡ Hello, Mum!
^ I’ll have to keep an eye open for that one, Debbi! 😃
The Bonzos were around for a while. Did you never hear I’m The Urban Spaceman? That was their best known single: produced by Paul McCartney, no less. But I preferred Humanoid Boogie, and Jollity Farm, myself. Oh, and Mr Slater’s Parrot: which got turned into a chocolate ad …

Q1) A birthday present
Q2) 3106
Q3) ct
Q4) South Africa
Q5) Yes (once she gave her oath and the whole shenanigans. It seems they made it smaller and adjusted it for her. I assume they must keep the extra bits somewhere, in case the next one has a bigger head?)
Good luck with the meeting. The process for getting any of those jobs here is very complicated and hard to get into (you have to go for a sort of exam with lots of other candidates, including people who might have been doing the job for years but don't have a long-term contract), and apart from the results of the test, other things are taken into account, like previous stints of employment at a particular department, your CV and qualifications in general... And people keep studying for these things, but there is no rhyme or reason to when they might be announced next, as despite vacancies, sometimes they don't come up for several years. If you get one of those positions, eventually, you might be set for life, but... And it applies to a large variety of public jobs...
I hope it goes better than you anticipate. And keep me posted on the rat man visit...
