Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd November, 2021

3rd November, 2021.

Right … I’ve got a blood test, today: at Brentwood’s Community Hospital.

Basically … ?   Checking on my sugar levels, and my thyroxine levels, and various other bits and bobs.

Hopefully?

The medication’s working!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Edith† and Mum‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Olga, Mum and Debbi scoring ten out of ten, and Edith on seven.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        3rd November, 1534, saw Parliament pass the first Act of Succession.   It named who as head of the Church of England: Elizabeth 1st, Henry 8th or Henry 7th?

Q2)        3rd November is Culture Day.   Where: China, Japan or South Korea?

Q3)        The French Army withdrew from Fashoda: on 3rd November, 1898.   Fashoda’s now in which country: Ethiopia, Sudan or Somalia?

Q4)        Who won the US Presidential Election of 3rd November, 2020: Joe Biden or Donald Trump?

Q5)        Finally … ? Composer, John Barry, was born on 3rd November, 1933.   He was the uncredited arranger for the theme of which 1962 spy film?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        North Dakota joined the USA.   On 2nd November of which year: 1889, 1890 or 1891?
A1)        1889.

Q2)        It joined on the same day as which other state: South Dakota, West Virginia or North Carolina?
A2)        South Dakota.

Q3)        North Dakota was which state to join the Union: the 38th, 39th or 40th?
A3)        The 39th.   (Saying that … ?   The then President, Benjamin Harrison, shuffled the papers up, so no-one could tell which state came first.   And modern convention lists them in alphabetical order.)

Q4)        North Dakota’s named after the Dakota branch of which tribe: the Sioux, Cheyenne or Algonquin?
A4)        The Dakota Sioux.

Q5)        What’s North Dakota’s capital: Fargo, Bismarck or Grand Forks?

Q6)        What, according to Wikipedia, is North Dakota’s largest city: Fargo, Bismarck or Grand Forks?
A6)        Fargo.

Q7)        The state capital is the venue for International Powwow.   In other words a meeting of many tribes of what: Native Americans, Sami or Roma?
A7)        Native Americans.   I’m using the phrase the Wikipedia article, itself, uses: but I’m also aware there’s a number of preferred terms.

Q8)        North Dakotan singer, Norma Deloris Egstrom, was better known how: Peggy Lee, Bessie Smith or Lynn Anderson?
A8)        Peggy Lee.

Q9)        The many Scandinavians who settled in North Dakota means Lutefisk is a popular dish.   Lutefisk is made of what: beef, fish or pork?

Q10)        Finally … ?   Actress, Angie Dickinson, is from North Dakota.   She played Sergeant Pepper Anderson in which series: Police Story, Police Woman or The Fugitive?
A10)        Police Woman.
Here’s a thought …
“The democratisation of luxury means more people are going to get better fashion. And the more people who can have fashion, the better.”
Anna Wintour, born 3 November 1949.
And some music …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Everyone remembers the rhinos, Olga!   Apparently?   The mouths on the heads are animatronic.   (Oh, the Sontarans are back in the next episode!   I think they get their armour from the same company as the Judoon.)

That it would, Edith: it’s only a short trip away, too.

        Hello, Mum!

^        It usually goes behind us, Debbi!   Oh, about The Halloween Apocalypse, Debbi?   The chap playing Suveyor Kragar — the Sontaran that was reporting in, the holographic one? — was Dan Starkey: Strax, in other words.   You can’t do Sontarans without him being involved, at some point … !

Q1) Elizabeth 1st, Henry 8th or Henry 7th? Elizabeth 1st (there were many changes there, as we all know).

Q2) Japan

Q3) Sudan

Q4) Joe Biden

Q5) Dr. No (I’m sure I’ve told you before I’m not a fan of Bond’s films, but their music is a different thing altogether).
Good luck with the tests. I was going to ask you if you felt better, but I know sometimes that is not a great indication. This summer, one of my uncles, who was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes quite a few years back, was telling me his GP had told him he didn't need to keep testing his glucose levels at home because he was well controlled, and with the COVID he hadn't had a proper test for a very long time, and when he had one, while we were there, it had gone through the roof, and he insisted that he was feeling much better, so go figure. (I am not sure the GP had actually told him that. He is very close to 90 and quite deaf at the moment, even with the hearing aid, so sometimes his interpretation of what he is told is a bit hit and miss).
