Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-11-2021: The Month of November!

1st November, 2021.

Yes: it’s official.

I saw the first episode of Doctor Who’s thirteenth series last night.

Granted, one alien, Karvanista, looks a bit like a Yorkshire terrier.

But, on the whole … ?

It’s a very good opening episode.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Edith‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, Edith on three and Mum on two.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        How many days are there in November: twenty-eight, thirty or thirty-one?

Q2)        What’s November’s birth flower: the rose, the poppy or the Chrysanthemum ?

Q3)        In the modern Gregorian calendar, November is the eleventh month of the year.   Which one is it in the ancient Roman calendar: the ninth, tenth or eleventh?

Q4)        November represents the letter ‘N,’ in NATO’s Phonetic Alphabet.   What name represents ‘O,’ in the same Alphabet: Oscar, Oswald or October?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The November class submarines were built by whom: the USA, the USSR or the UAE?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        31st October is Halloween.   The holiday is said to be a modern version of which Celtic festival: Samhain, Beltane or Imbolc?
A1)        Samhain.   (I’ve always pronounced it sam-HANE. But I’m told it’s more correctly pronounced SAA-wane.)

Q2)        Halloween 2015 — or 2015 TB₁₄₅, if you want it in full — is a what: comet, asteroid or moonlet?
A2)        Asteroid.   It’s also known as the ‘Skull,’ and the ‘Great Pumpkin.’

Q3)        In parts of England, you’re traditionally given what on Halloween: soul cakes, boiled sweets or figgins?
A3)        Soul cakes.   (Terry Pratchett makes gentle fun of it: with the Soul Cake Tuesday Duck. )

Q4)        Halloween is an 2009 episode of which show: Doctor Who, Wizards of Waverly Place or Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
A4)        Wizards of Waverly Place.   (‘Halloween’ had never appeared in a Dr Who title, until last night.   The Buffy episode was released in 1997.)

Q5)        Hallowe’en was a British clipper ship.   She was launched in which year: 1870, 1871 or 1872?
A5)        1870.   (She had a sister ship called the Blackadder.   I’m assuming it was named after Clan Blackadder.)
Here’s a thought …
“November’s night is dark and drear,
The dullest month of all the year.”
Letitia Elizabeth Landon.
And an album …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Cheers, Olga!   Hopefully, it’ll go well!   (There was a Buffy episode: but it was in 1997.)

        Hello, Mum!

Cheers, Edith: I think I’m going to need it, today!

^        That’s why I mentioned the year, Debbi: it avoids arguments!   At ANY rate … ?   Did I mention there’s OTHER enthusiastic reviews … ?

Q1) Thirty

Q2) the Chrysanthemum

Q3) The ninth

Q4) Oscar

Q5) The USSR
I'll keep my fingers crossed. I think I saw the Buffy episode years back, but I realised the year you mentioned wasn't possible. I've read a somewhat bizarre comment on one of the forums on the doctors website I visit sometimes, but I didn't realise they were talking about Dr Who until now. I'll have to pay more attention next time. And the alien definitely looks like a Yorkshire terrier.
