Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 31-10-2021: Halloween

31st October, 2021.

Yes: it’s officially official.

It’s so officially official, the government’s got web pages about it.

Yes: the clocks have gone back, and I’ve had an extra hour’s sleep.

Which is handy.

I saw Dune on Friday: which is fantastic, I should add.

But, boy!   The post and video reviews took a while.

I just hope I get a comment on the video version … !

Oh, JUST ad a quick thought, as today sees the start of the new series of Dr Who … ?

Bookies, William Hill are offering 9/4 on Lydia West to be cast as the 14th Doctor.

Whether that’s worth your time, I don’t know.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Debbi‡ and Edith^ putting in their answers: with Olga, Mum and Debbi scoring five out of five and Edith on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        31st October is Halloween.   The holiday is said to be a modern version of which Celtic festival: Samhain, Beltane or Imbolc?

Q2)        Halloween 2015 — or 2015 TB₁₄₅, if you want it in full — is a what: comet, asteroid or moonlet?

Q3)        In parts of England, you’re traditionally given what on Halloween: soul cakes, boiled sweets or figgins?

Q4)        Halloween is an 2009 episode of which show: Doctor Who, Wizards of Waverly Place or Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

Q5)        Hallowe’en was a British clipper ship.   She was launched in which year: 1870, 1871 or 1872?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        It’s almost the end of October.   How many days are there in October?
A1)        Thirty-one. (31)

Q2)        The name October come from a Latin word that means what: eight, nine or ten?
A2)        Eight: it was the eighth month of the Roman year.

Q3)        The October Revolution took place, where: the USA, Russia or Litschgenstein?
A3)        Russia.   (Due to the differences between the old Julian calendar, and the newer Gregorian calendar, the October Revolution actually took place in November.   Hmmm … November starts tomorrow … )

Q4)        October Mountain is in the October Mountain State Forest.   The October Mountain State Forest is in which US state: Massachusetts, Maryland or Mississippi?
A4)        Massachusetts.

Q5)        Finally?   The October Country is a 1955 short story collection by whom: Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clark or Isaac Asimov?
A5)        Ray Bradbury.
Here’s a thought …
“Today’s Halloween customs are thought to have been influenced by folk customs and beliefs from the Celtic-speaking countries, some of which are believed to have pagan roots.”
From the Wikipedia entry on Halloween.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I think a lot of it would come down to negotiation, Olga: I believe a lot’s been done to make sure our qualifications are valid where you are: and vice versa.   I’d imagine Brexit’s put some spokes in the wheels, though!
Oh, cheers for pointing out the mistake, I can get that corrected.
Good luck with the updates: hopefully, you won’t end up with this …

†        Hello, Mum … !

‡        The October Country, or Dune, Debbi?   Cheers for pointing out the mistake!   Are we looking forward to Jodie’s last episodes?
Or, talking of Dune … ?   It’s great: Javier Bardem is Stilgar.

^        That reminds me, I need to iron those shirts.   Cheers for reminding me, Edith!
