Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 11th October, 2021.

11th October 2021.

Hmmm …

“Have a nice day.”

“Have a nice day … !”

I’ve just uploaded today’s Teaser video to YouTube, and realised I’ve ended it with the phrase, “Have a nice day.”

And with no sense of irony.

As I’m very aware I’m going to have a sad one.

I’m up early, today: to post this, before my Thelma’s funeral …

Hmmm …

Have a nice day …

~≈‡≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga†, Edith‡, and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Mum, Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five and Edith on three.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        11th October is the feast day of Saint Æthelburh of Barking.   Barking is part of which UK city: London, Manchester or Liverpool?

Q2)        11th October is Old Michaelmas Day.   According to some traditions, the day was supposed to mark the day the Devil fell into what: Hell, the Sargasso Sea or a blackberry bush?

Q3)        The Treaty of Shaoxing was ratified on 11th October, 1141.   In what’s now which country: Japan, Thailand or China?

Q4)        The Second Vatican Council started: on 11th October, 1962.   It was held, where: Rome, Naples or Vatican City?

Q5)        Finally … ? STS-92 launched on 11th October, 2000.   The mission to the International Space Station was on which Space Shuttle: the Enterprise, Columbia, or Discovery?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Today is the tenth day of the tenth month.   What’s the Roman numeral for ten: x, y or z?
A1)        x.
Q2)        The last version of the Windows operating system is Windows 10: which is slowly being replaced by Windows 11.   Who makes Windows: Apple, Google or Microsoft?
A2)        Microsoft.

Q3)        In the Bible, there are ten lost tribes of Israel.   Name one of those tribes.
A3)        Asher, Dan, Ephraim, Gad, Issachar, Manasseh, Naphtali, Reuben, Simeon or Zebulun.

Q4)        10 codes — 10-4, 10-7, or 10-10 — are used if you’re talking on what: online, on the phone or on a CB radio?
A4)        On a CB radio.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Who — apart from the Queen — is on the UK’s current £10 note: Jane Austen, Elizabeth Fry or Alan Turing?
A5)        Jane Austen. Reformer, Elizabeth Fry, was on an older £5 note.   Alan Turing’s on the current £50 note.
Here’s a thought …
“Brit sitcom is usually good character observation and less gags. The Americans love the comedy to be high gag quota and slick.”
Dawn French, born 11 October 1957.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum: see you at nine.

I’m hoping so, Olga: nothing else seems to be shifting the weight!

‡        It’s the one thing I remember from Twin Peaks, Edith, that blessed llama!   It still puts a smile on my face.   (The Dune remake looks interesting, Edith: hopefully, they’ve managed to get the story right.)

^        I’ll keep that in mind, Debbi: I’ve still got Deep Six sitting around, somewhere …

Q1) London

Q2) A blackberry bush

Q3) China (on the Wikipedia page for today’s date, the treaty is listed under 1142, but when one clicks on the link, the actual entry about it says it was 1141, so I guess it’s another of those inaccuracies we so love, but checking other entries, there are blogs and books that also mention 1142).

The Encyclopedia Britannica mentions 1141, so I’m none the wiser, to tell you the truth!
Perhaps don’t mention the year if you use the question again...

Q4) Vatican City

Q5) Discovery
Sorry about the funeral and your loss. Funerals are strange things. Sometimes can be very depressing, but others, especially depending on the circumstances, can bring some comfort to people, with fond memories being shared, etc. I hope it isn't too sad for you all.
