Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th October 2021

30th October, 2021.

Yes: it’s officially official.

I’ve managed to see the Denis Villeneuve version of Dune: or Dune Pt One, we should say.

Dune Pt 1

I’ll have my video and written review up, tonight.

But … ?

It’s impressive.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Edith‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, Mum on four and Edith on two.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        It’s almost the end of October.   How many days are there in October?

Q2)        The name October come from a Latin word that means what: eight, nine or ten?

Q3)        The October Revolution took place, where: the USA, Russia or Litschgenstein?

Q4)        October Mountain is in the October Mountain State Forest.   The October Mountain State Forest is in which US state: Massachusetts, Maryland or Mississippi?

Q5)        Finally?   The October Country is a 1955 short story collection by whom: Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clark or Isaac Asimov?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        29th October is Coronation Day in Cambodia.   It marks King Norodom Sihamoni’s coronation, when: 2003, 2004 or 2005.
A1)        2004.

Q2)        Constantine 1st entered Rome, on 29th October, 312AD.   Constantine’s better know as Constantine the what?

A3)        James 1st.   James was James 1st of England and James 6th of Scotland.   James ruled the countries in personal union: although they remain separate until 1707

Q4)        Winona Ryder was born on 29th October, 1971.   In which Francis Ford Coppola film does she play Mina Murray?
A4)        Bram Stoker’s Dracula.   (I’m doing to get insistent on the Bram Stoker bit, there: as it’s part of the film’s title.)

Q5)        Finally … ?        The Convention of Constantinople was signed on 29th October, 1888.   It guaranteed free passage through what: the Panama Canal, the Suez Canal or the Dardanelles?
A5)        The Suez Canal.
Here’s a quote …
“And close at hand, the basket stood
With nuts from brown October’s wood.”
Snow-bound, by John Greenleaf Whittier.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        The impression I got from Norma, Olga, was that the places that did the relevant cheffing — cheffing? — catering courses that got you the relevant qualifications all had a set group of standards they had to met.   AND had their courses recognised by a central body: you could do your training in Fife, have it recognised by an employer in the rest of the country.   Obviously, some colleges are better — or worse — than others: but they all have to work to that set standard.
(I think the ex is working at the pub we had dinner at, a week or two ago.   Or was, anyway.   It was quite different to some of the places she’d been in!)
Cheers, for reminding me, Olga: I can get them started once I’m done posting!

        Hello, Mum!

Cheers, Edith: I’ve got them ready to wash, once once I’m done posting!

^        Well, it’s better than blisters in some places, Debbi!   Chelmsford, for example!   At any rate, I’m glad I could help!

Q1) 31

Q2) Eight

Q3) Russia

Q4) Massachusetts

Q5) It is The October Country by Ray Bradbury, I assume. The book that kept coming up is China Mieville’s October: The Story of the Russian Revolution
Yes, but I wondered how well the qualifications would do in other countries, as it seems to be quite popular to go to France (or it was) to study, and here it seems that some of the most famous chefs have their own schools, and then there seem to be some organised by their own Guilds (Gremios, here). I don't think I told you my computer updated to Windows 11. Too soon to tell yet how it will go, although it seems faster than before (but of course, this is a new computer, so it should have been faster than previous updates on my old computer).
