Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th November, 2021.

24th November, 2021.

Yep: I’m up early!

Extremely early: at least for me.

“Why,” I hear you ask?

Because I’ve got a dental hygienists appointment at eleven.

So I’m up earlier than usual, to get there on time.

The upside?

I can pick up some bits and bobs, while I’m in town.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Edith‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, Mum on four, and Edith on three.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        D. B. Cooper jumped from a plane: on 24th November, 1971.   After he’d done what to the plane he was on: taken it off, hijacked it or landed it?

Q2)        24th November is Evolution Day: marking the publication of On The Origin of Species.   Who wrote On The Origin of Species?

Q3)        Baruch Spinoza was born: on 24th November, 1632.   Where: Amsterdam, Rotterdam or the Hague?

Q4)        24th November is the feast day of Saint Chrysogonus: the patron saint of the city of Zadar.   Zadar is the oldest continuously inhabited city, where: Serbia, Montenegro or Croatia?

Q5)        Finally … ?   That Was the Week That Was was first broadcast: on 24th November, 1962.   Who was its presenter: David Frost, John Cleese or Ned Sherrin?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        23rd November, 1963, saw the broadcast of TV show, Doctor Who.   That first episode was called An Unearthly what?
A1)        An Unearthly Child.

Q2)        23rd November, 1984, saw hundreds trapped in a fire.   In which London Underground station: Tottenham Court Road, Oxford Circus or Bond Street?
A2)        Oxford Circus.

Q3)        23rd November is the main feast day of Alexander Nevsky.   He’s a saint in which Orthodox Church: Russia’s, Ukraine’s or Estonia’s?
A3)        Russia’s.

Q4)        23rd November is Saint George’s Day, where: Georgia, England or Slovenia?
A4)        Georgia.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Edwin Hubble’s discovery that an apparent nebula wasn’t a nebula, was published in the New York Times: on 23rd November, 1924.   The apparent nebula was actually what: the Andromeda Galaxy, the Draconids meteor shower or Barnard’s Star?
A5)        The Andromeda Galaxy.
Here’s a thought …
“On the contrary, we must take care not to admit as true anything, which is only probable. For when one falsity has been let in, infinite others follow.”
Baruch Spinoza, 24 November 1632 – 21 February 1677.
And a theme tune: as it’s the show’s birthday …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I think the hat’s dual purpose, Olga.   JUST in case you ever never need to dress up as an incredibly tentacled thing!
Yep: Pain is the word!   I’ve kicked up a fuss about it: which means both case workers will be talking to each other.   I can only hope that improves the service.

        Hello, Mum!

You’re right, Edith, that it did!   There’s been a few over the years.   The old ‘You’ve been Tango’ed,’ ads were just as eye catching: but very silly.

^        He backed Trump?   That’s a shock, Debbi!

Q1) Hijacked it. And he was never found. Some people have quite an imagination, don’t they? If I had just read it in a book, I would have thought the author had gone a bit too far...

Q2) Charles Darwin

Q3) Amsterdam

Q4) Croatia

Q5) David Frost
Do keep us posted on the course front and any changes, and I hope the appointment and the shopping go well. Here we are having a bit of weather (windy, rainy, cold) but not as bad as in other places, with flooding, roads blocked by snow... I am supposed to go on another walk on Saturday for the radio (it shouldn't be a long one, although interesting, looking at the site of an old factory, one of the biggest in the area, now a park), so I hope the weather has improved by then.
