Saturday 3 December 2022

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd December 2022 Teaser.

3rd December, 2022.

Yes: it’s Saturday.

And I officially know what I’m having for dinner.

Stew.

As opposed to, say, chilli: or spaghetti.

I made a batch on Thursday.

And have to admit: I’m rather pleased with it.

I think I got the roux, the mixture that can be used to thicken stock, right.

Are you in the UK … ?   And, like me, starting to send Christmas cards?

I’m grateful I keep an eye on the news.

As the Royal Mail has announced that people should send Xmas card earlier than usual: as the expected postal strikes are going to hold things up.

The revised dates are:
  • 2nd Class — 12th December.
  • 1st Class — 19th December.
  • International Post — 3rd December.   (Today.)
Which means I’ve got one last card I have to get posted, today!

Heigh-ho!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Debbi† and Mum‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        3rd December, 1990, saw the birth of footballer, Christian Benteke.   He plays international football for whom: Belgium, Croatia or Denmark?

Q2)        Actress, Anna Chlumsky, was born on 3rd December, 1980.   She played Vada Sultenfuss in which 1991 film: Billy Bathgate, Johnny Suede or My Girl?

Q3)        3rd December is the feast day of Saint Birinus.   He’s the patron saint of where: Berkshire, Cambridgeshire or Derbyshire?

Q4)        Les Ames was born on 3rd December, 1905.   He played cricket for which English county?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Camelot debuted on Broadway: on 3rd December, 1960.   Who played Arthur in this original run: Richard Burton, Richard Beckinsale or Richard Harris?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Leipzig University was established: on 2nd December, 1409.   University and town, are where: Switzerland, Germany or Austria?
A1)        Germany.

Q2)        The most recent version of Saint Paul’s Cathedral was consecrated: on 2nd December, 1697.   Who designed it: Sir Isaac Newton, Sir Christopher Wren or Sir Walter Raleigh?
A2)        Sir Christopher Wren.

Q3)        LaGuardia opened on 2nd December, 1939.   It’s New York City’s largest what: dock, airport or department store?
A3)        Airport.

Q4)        President James Monroe proclaimed his Monroe Doctrine: on 2nd December, 1823.   It said that the US would be what: neutral in European affairs, promote Free Trade or fight communism?
A4)        Neutral in European affairs.

Q5)        Finally … ?   2nd December, 2020, saw the UN remove what from the list of the most dangerous drugs: cannabis, heroin or opium?
A5)        Cannabis.
Here’s a thought …
“I’ve had every known chemical — cocaine, booze — and tobacco is the hardest one in the world for me to quit.   You watch old flicks?   It’s suggestion by looking at something: you see a cigarette, and it makes you want to smoke!”
Ozzy Osbourneª, born December 3, 1948.
And some musicº …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        If it’s any help, Olga^?   This one retails for €4.98 … !   But I know what you mean: there’s some things that can’t be bought from the UK branch of Amazon for love nor money!   And I got a belt for the UK Amazon, at one point: turns out it was American, and I had to pay customs duties!
At ANY rate!   Good luck at the Centre: hopefully you can get the editing sorted.

I know: Iceland sounds gorgeous, Debbi^!   And, talking of McDonalds?   A chap I worked with — many years ago — visited Moscow: not long after the first Moscow McDonalds opened.   A lot of the locals brought their own knives and forks: a US burger was a radical new idea in 1990s Russia!

        Hello, Mum^!

^        JUST so everyone knows?   There’s ten question sets on the 12th and 18th of December: about Pennsylvania and Michael Moorcock.   I hope that helps!   (Finding the music for Michael Moorcock was easy: he’s recorded with Hawkwind.   I’d like to see J. K. Rowling do that!)

ª        I know exactly what Ozzy means: anytime some one works past me with a lit cigarette, I get cravings.

º        The Godfather Waltz is one of the most menacing tunes written.

Q1) Belgium

Q2) My Girl

Q3) Berkshire

Q4) England

Q5) Richard Burton (That must have been an interesting one to watch. I’ve only ever seen the movie)
I'll keep it in mind, but I remember a friend of mine, who is an actor and did some voice work, recorded, and had one of his own books turned into CDs in the US, and then had to pay customs as well, so it ended up being quite an expensive experience for him.
It was a good evening yesterday, although the party was on the patio of the building, to be able to accommodate more people, and it was quite chilly.
The plan is for me to go on Wednesday to do the editing, although there will be a fair amount of people turning up, but, in theory, they are using the recording studios rather than the editing computers, so fingers crossed!
And good luck with your Christmas cards writing!
