The cheese rolling always gets a mention here at some point. But yes, wheelie bin chasing is a pretty good sport, and in a narrow street with cars parked on both sides, a risky sport as well.
I hope things look up on the money front, even if it takes a little bit of time. We ended up buying two roses yesterday. the first, one of those eternal roses (a neighbour was selling them to collect money for an animal charity), and the second, when we went to visit el Palau de la Generalitat (the official seat of the government of Catalonia), which they only open to the public on certain occasions, like yesterday. On the way out they had a few charities also offering roses, and you could pay whatever you wanted for them, and the money went to the charity. They were also asking people for book recommendations, you wrote it on a postit, and when you came out, there was a huge panel, in the shape of a dragon holding a big white sign, and you could stick it there. It was a nice gesture. The palace was all decorated with red roses (many of the buildings of the city do that, like Casa Batlló that always looks gorgeous), and there are plenty of artworks and sculptures featuring Sant Jordi there. All pretty festive. Long queues at the booksellers stalls, especially those with famous authors signing. Dave Walliams was around and the gave the opening speech to celebrate the day.
