Tuesday 23 April 2024

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23rd April 2024.

23rd April, 2024.

It’s officially official: it’s both Tuesday … and payday …

Hopefully … ?

I’ll have enough cash for a haircut.

But … ?

Am very aware I council tax payments start this month: so may have to wait until next month, when my benefit payments increase.

That’s frustrating: I’m getting shaggy!

One possible source of help?

Is that I may — may — be due some money.

I said — in yesterday’s post — that my landlord had been forced to compensate a tenant in Hertfordshire, after setting service charges at too high a rate.

Mine were £194 a month for last tax year: and £21 a month for this.

So … ?

I gave Clarion, my landlords, a call to highlight this.

And got told they’re ‘putting the process in motion’ for me.

I think I won’t get a thing: or that this year’s charges will go up.

But … ?

At least I’ve raised the issue.

~≈®≈~

Additionally?

I’ve due to have a hearing about my application for PIP, for Personal Independence Payments.

I’ve asked the relevant office when that hearing will be.

And been told — yesterday — that my case is “Ready To List”: and that, once a hearing’s been booked, I’ll be told by post.

The sooner that happens?

The better.

I’m not exactly what you call patient.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        23rd April is the UN sponsored, Spanish Language Day.   Modern standard Spanish is based on what: Castilian, Aragonese or Asturian?

Q2)        23rd April is the UN sponsored, English Language Day.   If you speak English, you’re an Anglo-what: Anglophone, Anglo-Saxon or Angle-grinder??

Q3)        William Shakespeare died on 23rd April.   Of which year of the 1610s?

Q4)        23rd April is Saint George’s Day.   The saint was born in Cappadocia: in what’s now where: Syria, Israel or Turkey?

Q5)        Finally … ?   And according to UNESCO?   23rd April is World Book and what Day?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        22nd April, 1977, saw the first live telephone signals sent.   By what: copper wires, fibre optic cables or telepathy?
A1)        Fibre optic cables.

Q2)        22nd April is the feast day of Saint Soter.   He’d held what is now which post: Pope, Holy Roman Emperor or Tsar?
A2)        Pope.

Q3)        22nd April is also the feast day of Saint Caius.   He’d held what is now which post: Pope, Holy Roman Emperor or Tsar?
A3)        Pope.   (Neither Caius, nor Soter, sound as bad as Alexander 6th.)

Q4)        Arwald is commemorated on 22nd April. He’s generally considered the last pagan king of where: the Isle of Mann, the Isle of Wight or Guernsey?
A4)        The Isle of Wight.   (He was never named as Pope …)

Q5)        Finally … ?   22nd April, 1915, the Second Battle of Ypres saw the first use of what in combat: the tank, chlorine gas or the machine gun?
A5)        Chlorine gas.   (I personally always thought this is what was known as mustard gas: due to its distinct yellowish colour.   Apparently, though, mustard gas is a separate set of chemicals.   The classic versions have both chlorine and sulphur as ingredients.)
Here’s a thought …

“O brave new world,
That has such people in’t!”
Miranda, scene 1, Act 5, The Tempest, by William Shakespeare.

A song …

And an earworm …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Blast!   I’ve double checked the link, myself, Olga, and you’re right: it does say September!   How I misread that, I don’t know!
And I know what you mean about hills!   My Aunty Bella lived half up a very steep road: and — when there was especially bad snow, one year? — a bus got stuck in the drifting snow.   Walking up Imperial Avenue to get past it, wasn’t fun.   It was worse for the passengers, though!
Oh, I lost weight, again: not much, but every little helps!

        Hello, Mum!

‡        Did I mention I saw McCoy in The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Debbi?   The would’ve been in the mid-1980s, well before he joined Dr Who.   And he was in a show called Vision-On, as well.   (The show was aimed at deaf children: but a lot of people watched it.)

I've had all kind of interesting things going on on that hill. ONce I had to run all the hill down in hot pursuit of my wheely bins! It was quite windy up there as well!
I hope you are lucky on the money front. And good news on the weight.
