Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-4-2024 — Nunavut

1st April, 2024: Nunavut.

It’s Monday!

And I think I’ve — partially — solved a problem.

I have a new Mac — thanks, once again, to a lot of helpful friends and family! — that I’m slowly getting used to using.

And that — wouldn’t you know it? — has run out of main drive space, already!

I’m thankful I know how to get around that: by moving a large media library — one where I store large video files — from the main drive, to an external one.

Hopefully, that will help*.

If not … ?

I could be looking at re-setting the operating system … three months after being bought the thing!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum†, Olga‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on three.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Nunavut became part of Canada on 1st April.   Of which year of the 1990s?

Q2)        What’s Nunavut’s capital: Yellowknife, Whitehorse or Iqaluit?

Q3)        That capital use to be called what: Frobisher Bay, Blenkinsop Bay or Arkwright River?

Q4)        Nunavut shares its borders with the Northwest Territories, and where else: Manitoba, Ontario or Quebec?

Q5)        Prior to joining Canada, Nunavut had been part of where: the Northwest Territories, Manitoba, Ontario or Quebec?

Q10)        Finally … ?   Jordin Tootoo grew up in Nunavut.   He played what: Canadian football, ice hockey or chess?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

A1)        5th May.

Q2)        Easter marks Jesus’ return from what: the dead, Galilee or Torremolinos?
A2)        The dead.   (He do go to Torremolinos: in AD27.   It was ‘too touristy …’)

Q3)        Easter Sunday is marked at the same time as which Jewish ceremony: Yom Kippur, Passover or Rosh Hashana?
A3)        Passover.

Here’s a motto …
“ᓄᓇᕗᑦ ᓴᙱᓂᕗᑦ”
“Our land, our strength”
“Notre terre, notre force”.
Nunavut’s Motto.
And some throat singing!

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        What doesn’t help at the moment?   Is that the current version of the operating system is what’s called a ‘Universal’ version.   In other words, there’s code for the two different types of processors most currently available Macs have.   When Apple releases an Apple-silicon-only version for my machine?    I’ll have more space!

        Hello, Mum!

‡        OK, Olga, I think I’m interested of The Man Who Never Was: we’ll have to see if I get any spare cash for a copy!
Yeah, that’s — sort of — the thing, Olga.   I’ve not read much of the (English language) Wikipedia article on the condition — I didn’t want to influence myself — but the opening paragraphs do ring a few cherries.
Which remind me, maybe doing an SEO for Dummies course maybe good.   I’ll have to have a look.   And I think I should apologise for all the drunken Brits in Torremolinos.   (They’re not the Messiahs, they’re very naughty people!)

§        Phew!   Glad to hear it, Debbi!
Actually, Romford really isn’t that bad.   Once the locals have headed for Torremolinos.   Or Ibiza.   Or Benidorm.   Or somewhere!
Actually, a trip to Romford was quite exciting, when we were kids.   It was the first town in Essex to have a branch of McDonalds: which was quite exotic in the late 1970s.   (The nearest Britain could do, at the time?   Were Wimpy.)

I have only just got round to checking the answers to your last 10 question set. I suggest that you look at the answers to q9 and adjust your scores. Reas that I did not check yesterday was that I was busy cooking a Moroccan Lamb dish in my tagine and entertaining Penny to a good Easter sunday lunch.

Yes, I know what you mean about not wanting to influence things. I remember when I worked at the Asperger's assessment unit, they used to send a questionnaire patients had to fill in beforehand, and I think there was one for the relatives as well, because some of the questions were about one's childhood, and parents might remember it much better, if they're still around, as we used to get people who were not that young. I imagine the process might be similar (as they share some characteristics), but we shall see.
Oh, if you want an e-copy of the book, I can send it to you. I have paper copies as well, but I think with Brexit and everything else, sending it would be quite expensive, and you'd probably have to pay taxes as well (I've had to pay 6 or 7 euros for books I've been sent from the UK, although they were sent as review copies, so... Not a great option). There might be some old paper copies hanging around, but I don't bother with them these days, because they don't sell and they keep changing the format, so you're forever having to adjust things or get somebody to do it (and spend even more money). But if you want a PDF or an ePUB version, I can e-mail you that no problem. Every so often there are promotions and things in Smashwords and I do advertise those, but unless you prefer that option, it is no problem to send you one.

Interesting. When I was in Queens, we didn't have a McDonald's in my area. Mostly small businesses in small buildings all jammed together. :)

I think the first McDonald's I went to was probably in California, sometime after I moved there. To Fresno. :)

1. 1999
2. Iqaluit
3. Frobisher Bay
4. Manitoba
5. the Northwest Territories
6. province
7. four
8. English
9. star
10. ice hockey

So, Romford's pretty cool then?

I vaguely remember the Wimpy brand, but don't recall going to one.

However, I did once work at the politically-incorrectly named Sambo's Restaurant as a hostess/cashier. That was in Santa Rosa, California. Years after living in the Central Valley.
