Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-2-2022: Washington

3rd May, 2022.

Yes: it’s officially official.

Ronnie O’Sullivan’s won this year’s Snooker World Championship at the Crucible, last night.

Winning a record equalling seventh title.

I’ve got to admit, he was a bit of a diva at some points.

But?   Congratulations to him.

~≈Ù≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.   (Today’s video has yesterday’s answers.)

Q1)        Washington DC’s city government came into existence.   On 3rd May of which year: 1801, 1802 or 1803?

Q2)        Washington DC is the District of where: Columbia, Constantine or Constantinopolis?

Q3)        DC is the seat of the US what government: Federal Government or state government?

Q4)        The city is on the banks of the what: Thames, Potomac or Mississippi?

Q5)        The city was named after President Washington, the first US president.   What was his first name?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Catherine the Great was born: on 2nd May of which year: 1725, 1727 or 1729?
A1)        1729.

Q2)        In what’s now where: France, Germany or Italy?
A2)        Germany.   At the time?   At the time, Germany part of the Holy Roman Empire.   The (Prussian) town she was born in, is now in Poland.   That’s something I didn’t notice when I wrote the question, so I’m giving the point to anyone who answered ‘Germany,’ or ‘Poland.’

Q3)        She was empress of where: Russia, Austro-Hungary or the British Raj?
A3)        Russia.

Q4)        The city of Odesa was founded on Catherine’s orders.   The city’s now in which country: Russia, Turkey or Ukraine?
A4)        Ukraine.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Catherine died of what: a heart attack, stroke or cancer?
A5)        A stroke.   (There’s an urban legend that says she died having sex with a horse.   The mind boggles.)
Here’s a motto …
“Justitia Omnibus.”
“Justice for All.”
DC’s motto.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Happy belated Birthday, Olga!   I hope it went well: and lots of cake was involved!
And I’ve managed to hand out an extra point to you and Debbi.   Basically?   I noticed the bit in the Quick Facts section of her Wikipedia entry that said the Prussian town she was born in, was now in Poland … after the two of you mentioned it … !
If I’ve understood it correctly?   Noah Webster, the original compiler of the Merriam-Webster, was a spelling reformer who felt the language needed simplifying.   (I got the impression he also wanted to make it each to teach the language to immigrants.   But couldn’t tell you where I got that from!)

        Hello, Mum!

I’ll try and keep my eyes peeled for it, Debbi!   Oh, and I’ve handed out a point for ‘Poland,’ so you know.   I missed the bit in Catherine’s Wikipedia entry that said the town’s now there.   (It HAD been in Prussia.)
Oh, did I ever mention Kenny Everett?   YouTube’s just thrown a couple of his old sketches at me!   Yes, that’s the Freddie Mercury in the first one.

Thanks, Paul. No cake, yesterday. It was a pretty busy day, with classes in the morning and the afternoon (wouldn't you know it? Both, Jordi and Rebeca have cancelled their classes for next Monday), and today and tomorrow are pretty busy as well, but as it was my mother´s birthday a week ago, we'll probably go out on Friday and do something (mind you, she is in the hands of the dentist because her teeth are in a bit of a state, so we have to be selective with the kind of food, but cake should be OK...)
Oh, by the way, Jordi and his wife managed OK in London, no rain either, and they enjoyed the play as well (they went to see Wicked), although they weren't very impressed with the fact that everybody is always running around and nobody has proper meals at midday...

Happy belated Birthday wishes to Olga.

My birthday is the day after the Ides of May.

Oh yes there a number of Ides. The most famous is the Ides of March.
