Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 11th May, 2022.

11th May, 2022.

Did I tell you I have problems with my sink … ?

My kitchen sink?

I have problems with my kitchen sink.

There’s — ha! — upsurging!

In other words, every so often, I’m getting water — lovely grey water with bits in — coming up the drain.

With the appropriate glooping noises.

Yes: I’ve tried shoving soda crystals down there.   And yes, I’ve phoned my landlord to fix the problem.

They’re coming on the 27th!

But I don’t think it’s my drains causing the issue.

As far as I know?

The flat upstairs is having some sort of issue with their drains: which has caused into the flat next door to mine: the only one that does’t share a communal entrance with the rest of the building!

And who’s occupier I’ve never actually met … until yesterday.

Lovely to met you, if you’re reading this!

At any rate … ?

The next door neighbour was getting issues as well.

Including water coming through their hallway light fitting, and — you’ve guessed it — water upsurging in their kitchen sink.

Quite what we can do about it … ?

Apart from repeatedly hitting my landlord over the head with it*?

I don’t know!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga†, Mum‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Phil Silvers was born on 11th May, 1911.   He played Marcus Lycus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the … what?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

A1)        The Yuan.   (The dynasty’s founder was Temür’s grandfather, Kublai Khan.)

Q2)        10th May, 1774, saw Louis XVI become King of France.   Who was his cake fancying Queen?

And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Where things get complicated?   Is jurisdiction.   Damon House has twelve flats.   Eight of which — like mine — are socially housed: we rent from Clarion Housing.   The remaining four?   Are part owned.   We renters get a large amount of repairs done by our landlords.   The part-owners?   Have to see to their own repairs.   The problem?   I — and the woman upstairs — are socially housed, and get any repairs done by Clarion.   The family next door are part-buy: and have to sort out their own issues.   Unless they can show the problem is communal — like the rats issue, a while back — or being caused by a socially housed tenant.   Proving that to Clarion is taking a while.

Cheers, Olga.   The appointment went well enough: and left me with more toothpaste.
I’ve got to admit, I’m the same with Terry Pratchett.   I can remember reading Going Postal on the bus, getting to this quote, laughing my head off and getting some very funny looks.
It sounds like selection process was an old fashioned stitch up!   But at least it’s a song you can hum.   I’ve JUST looked it up on YouTube.   It’s also a lot catchier than the UK’s entry: I turned that off after a couple of seconds.

        Hello, Mum!

^        It could be worth watching, Debbi.   Oh, and the Radio Times is trying to throw the cat amongst the pigeons: pointing out, here, that Ncuti’s been cast as the new Doctor … just not necessarily the next Doctor.   Oy veh!
Dick’s original novel was quite an interesting read: although it’s been years since I read it.   I think they lifted a few elements for Scott’s Bladerunner.   The series is pretty good, too: but did have a bit of a cop out ending.   (Rufus Sewell as Obergruppenführer John Smith, and Joel de la Fuente as Chief Inspector Takeshi Kido, are great!   Chelah Horsdal — Helen Smith — crops up in Star Trek Discovery.)

We shall see what happens with Eurovision. And good luck with the sink problem. Here they come to check the drains every so often and it is programmed already, but all the neighbours pay maintenance. Mind you, we need to sort out big structural things, and that's going to be very expensive...
