Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-1-2024 — Ra Ra Rasputin

21st January, 2024: Ra Ra Rasputin.

It’s officially official: it’s now Sunday!

Frankly?

That means it’s a day closer to pay day.

I’m looking forward to that!

It means being about to buy shopping!

And possibly a haircut: I’m feeling a touch shaggier than I’m comfortable with!

~≈💇≈~

I’m a bit of a Doctor Who fan: it has to be said.

So I try and keep an eye on news about the show.

Something I did notice?

Was that — according to this piece in the Daily Mirror — Millie Gibson has been dropped.

And will only be in three of the projected eight episodes of the red-rebooted show’s second series.

Personally?

I’m wondering what happened, there: ‘dropped’ isn’t necessarily a good word, in context …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        21st January saw the birth of Grigori Rasputin.   In which year of the 1860s?

Q2)        He was born on the 21st in the new style Gregorian calendar.   What was it in the old style, Julian, calendar: 9th January, 10th January or 11th January?

Q3)        Rasputin was born in Siberia.   In what’s now, where: Russia, Georgia or Poland?

Q4)        Grigori was considered a strannik.   In other words, a religious what: wanderer, artist or singer?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Rasputin killed in which year: 1914, 1916 or 1918?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The USA’s youngest president was sworn in on 20th January, 1961.   Who was that President?
A1)        John F. Kennedy.

Q2)        David Lynch was born on 20th January, 1946.   His first film, Eraserhead, was released in which year of the 1970s?
A2)        1977.

Q3)        20th January is the feast day of Pope Fabian.   He’s usually depicted with a what: crow, dove or eagle?
A3)        A dove.

Q4)        China gained control of the Paracel Islands: from 20th January, 1974.   The Islands are where: the South China Sea, the East China Sea or the Gulf of Mexico?
A4)        South China Sea.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Martin Luther King Day was first marked in the US as a federal holiday: on 20th January.   20th January of which year of the 1980s?
A5)        1986.

Here’s a thought …
“Tsar of the land of Russia, if you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigory has been killed, you must know this: if it was your relations who have wrought my death then no one of your family, […] none of your children or relations will remain alive for more than two years.”
Grigori Rasputin, in a letter to the Tsar.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I saw Eraserhead a while ago, Olga.   It struck me as … memorable is the best word, I think.   Do you remember the scene with the singer?   It always struck me the curtains she was standing in front of, were red.   Why?   I don’t know: it just seems the grayscale tone seem to match a red shade.   It wouldn’t be the last time he’d used red curtains.
You’re not wrong about real life!   Oh … tt wasn’t a disaster: but the musical episode of Star Trek Great New Worlds was OK, rather than stunning!   At least everyone did their own singing!
Oh, talking of acting families, and family resemblances?   Gemma Redgrave crops up in Doctor Who.   Oh, and Daisy Ridley — Rey in the Star Wars sequels? — is the grand niece of Arnold Ridley: Private Godfrey in Dad’s Army.   (Blimey!   Arnold Ridley fought in the Somme!)

        Hello, Mum!

        I know, Debbi: it’s very eye-catching!
Oh, the play gets a mention on the Internet Broadway Database: it seems Andrew was one of the later cast members in Abie’s Irish Rose, and played Patrick Murphy.   And you say the surname was originally MacAloon/McAloon?   I’m wondering if that means he’s a relative of Paddy McAloon of Prefab Sprout?   Granted, it’s different spellings of the surname … but …

Q1) 1869

Q2) 9th of January. And you have a typo in the question. 21st, isn’t it, not 24th?

Q3) Russia

Q4) wanderer

Q5) 1916 (was killed, rather than killed. Although, well...)
Wow! There are some amazing family connections, and many we don't know of, I'm sure.
Oh, by the way, I was checking about Millie Gibson and saw this article. I also caught a YouTube video where somebody speculated that it is likely there isn't anything weird about it, and it has to do with the story and the script, rather with any weird goings on. Perhaps we'll know some day, but I guess it is common for companions to go in the middle of a series (sorry, I haven't watched it regularly for a long time, so I'm going by what I've read).
