Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16th January 2024

16th January. 2024.

Right, then …

It’s now, officially, Tuesday.

I’ll have a video review up, later: of the last episode of For All Mankind’s fourth series.

Which was rather good, I should add.

Between that, Foundation and Silo, AppleTV+ are doing some interesting SF.

~≈👾≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Here’s information …
“En un lugar de la Mancha, de cuyo nombre no quiero acordarme, no hace mucho tiempo que vivía un hidalgo de los de lanza en astillero, adarga antigua, rocín flaco y galgo corredor.”
“In some village in La Mancha, whose name I do not care to recall, there dwelt not so long ago a gentleman of the type wont to keep an unused lance, an old shield, a skinny old horse, and a greyhound for racing.”
From Ch.1 of Don Quixote, by Miguel Cervantes, first published on 16th January, 1605.
And a Nik Kershaw song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I’ll have to keep my eyes open for that, Olga¶.   Saying that, the blu-ray version on Amazon looks good.    But wouldn’t you know it: it’s not on Apple’s TV app!
I’m — sort of — the same with audio: although I’ll turn off, or pause if the performance is distracting me!
I think you did: although it would have been a while ago.   At any rate: the first episode seems interesting!   And the landscapes, gorgeous.   It’s filmed in and around the University of Santa Cruz.

        Hello, Mum¶!

‡        Hang on, Debbi: the 15th Doctor’s Scottish!   Oh, wait, hang on: I see what you mean … !   I honestly couldn’t tell you quite what’s happening, there: but it seems to work.
Have you seen the Christmas special, yet?   It’s interesting!
Oh, there’s a new feature in Sonoma: you can click on the desktop wallpaper to hide any active windows.   It’ll come in handy at some point§¶!

§        Saying that, Debbi¶?   It does seem to work well with Spaces/Mission Control: to let me drag and drop things on the desktop, to a web browser.

I’ve got “It’s Like That”, playing in the background.   The girl with the pigtails reminds me of my cousin’s daughter.   (She looks like Hannah, Mum!)

Q1) Coptic

Q2) Iran

Q3) Well, this is a bit of a trick question, because she is a canoeist now, but she was a swimmer before so...

Q4) Augustus

Q5) It’s Ivan the 4th not the 3rd. The Terrible. Ivan the 3rd was The Great, but much earlier.
Oh, these days I don't know if I'm coming or going. Trying to be my mother's brain and mine at the same time doesn't always work. Tomorrow she'll start some patches. They shouldn't turn back the clock, but the hope is that they might slow down the deterioration a bit.
And thanks for the opening of el Quijote.

I had a brief flashback watching the bi-generation to a movie I saw on Svengoolie called The Thing with Two Heads. I half-expected to see David Tennant turn into a very angry Ray Milland. :)

3. swimmer (and canoeist)
4. Augustus
5. Terrible
