Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23rd August 2022

23rd August, 2022.

Drat … I didn’t get the job …

I went for an interview, yesterday.

At a local shop: one I’d put in several applications for, for different posts.

Unfortunately?

The position was for night shifts — that wouldn’t play well with my back and knees — rather than the cashiers post I was hoping for.

The interviewers and I shook hands at that point.

But that have told me to keep my eyes peeled for daytime jobs.

That’s a possible upside.

~≈🕰≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

The day also saw Olga‡ leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        23rd August, 2005, saw the death of actor Brock Peters.   He played the falsely accused Tom Robinson in which 1962, Gregory Peck, film?

Q2)        23rd August, 1754, saw the birth of Louis 16th.   He was the last Bourbon king of where: France, Spain or Germany?

Q3)        23rd August, 1942, saw the start of the Battle of where: Stalingrad, Leningrad or Yekaterinburg?

Q4)        The remains of Grand Duchess Anastasia were found near Yekaterinburg, on 23rd August, 2007.   Her remains were found near which of her family members: Tsarevich Alexei, Grand Duchess Tatiana or Tsar Nicolas 2nd?

Q5)        Finally … ?   23rd August, 1921, saw the birth of cricketer, Sam Cook.   He played for which country side: Gloucestershire, Somerset or Devon?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        22nd August is the feast day of Saint Guinefort.   Saint Guinefort was a what: rabbit, greyhound or mongoose?
A1)        Greyhound.

Q2)        22nd August, 1138, was the date of the Battle of the Standard.   The Battle was between forces from England … and where: Scotland, France or Wales?
A2)        Scotland.

Q3)        Cadillac — the car company — was founded on 22nd August, 1902.   The company had previously been owned by whom: Charles Rolls, Rudolf Diesel or Henry Ford?
A3)        Henry Ford.

Q4)        A slave revolt started: on 22nd August, 1791.   In what’s now where: Haiti, Cuba or Jamaica?
A4)        Haiti.   (The Revolution was led, in part, by Toussaint L’overture: and generally considered the only successful slave revolt in history.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   The America’s Cup Race took place for the first time: on 22nd August, 1851.   The race is a what race: yacht race, car race or running race?
A5)        A yacht race.
Here’s a thought …
“Don’t trust anyone that doesn’t like any Bowie^ songs.   They’re a wrong 'un.”
Shaun Ryder, born 23 August 1962.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

†        Cheers, Debbi: unfortunately …
I think there’s probably half a ton of James Bond fanfic, Debbi.   If it’s like some of the Star Trek stuff, they’ll only pass it on if you’re at least 18!   There’s latter day Bond novels, as well: John Gardner’s done some.   I’d imagine the movies will carry on.   The next one could see the Léa Seydoux character telling her daughter stories.   Or?   With M meeting the ‘new’ Bond and saying ‘Oh, thank god for that, Bond: the reconstructive surgery worked!’
Either way … ?   I think Henry Cavill would be a superb Bond: he’s got the look.

Cheers, Olga.   Unfortunately, it didn’t work out.   I should be able to re-apply, as and when a day time job comes up.
Here’s hoping you get to sit down in the midst of all the fun!   It’s a shame you missed yesterday’s though.   We’ve had a patron saint of dogs, a patron saint of mad dogs … and yesterday, Saint Guinefort.   A saint who IS a dog!   You couldn’t make it up, could you … ?

^        I think Ryder had a very good point.   Bowie’s one of a handful of artists — The Beatles, Elvis, Madonna, Prince, the Stones, Queen and possibly Michael Jackson — who’ve literally something for everyone.   If you don’t like one of their tunes … …

Sorry about the job, but it sounds hopeful that they told you to keep checking for day jobs.
I'm in a rush again today, because I have to do something later this afternoon, but at least it isn't job-related.
Have a great day!
