Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th August, 2022

12th August, 2022

Yes: it’s Friday.

Which means we can excitedly proclaim ourself to be excited Friday people: running around like mad things.

Or like the character in that Crunchie advert.

You can tell I’m trying for irony, can’t you … ?

~≈¥≈~

JUST as a quick thought … ?

I had my nephew over, last night: along side a couple of pizzas.

Pizzas … and the inevitable video.

Unless I miss my guess?

He’s got another subscriber!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

The day also saw Trevor^ leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        In the UK, 12th August is the Glorious Twelfth.   It’s the start of the what hunting season: red grouse, raven or chicken?

Q2)        12th August, 1969, saw UK police use tear gas: after nine hours of rioting in the Bogside area of Derry.   What was the name of the police force that took the action: the Metropolitan Police, the PSNI or the RUC?

Q3)        George 4th of the UK was born on 12th August, 1762.   He became king in which year: 1820, 1821 or 1822?

Q4)        The world’s last known Quagga died on 12th August, 1883.   The creature was a subspecies of what: horse, donkey or zebra?

Q5)        Finally … ?   12th August is the feast day of Saint Jane Frances de Chantal.   She’s the patron saint of whom: widows, orphans or foundlings?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Hadrian became Roman Emperor: on 11th August.   Of which year: AD116, AD117 or AD118?
A1)        AD117.

Q2)        He belonged to which Imperial dynasty: the Julio-Claudians, Flavians or Nerva-Antonines?
A2)        The Nerva-Antonines.

Q3)        He ordered the building of Hadrian’s Wall in the Roman province of Britannia.   Is the wall on the modern Anglo-Scottish border: yes, or no?
A3)        No: it’s entirely within England.   (By contrast, the Antonine Wall is completely within Scotland.)

Q4)        Whilst Emperor, Hadrian rebuilt the Pantheon.   Where is the Pantheon: Rome, Byzantium or Ravenna?
A4)        Rome.

Q5)        Finally … ?   He died in AD138, and was succeeded by whom: Lucius Sejanus, Augustus Caesar or Antoninus Pius?
A5)        Antoninus Pius.
Here’s a thought …
“We must, of course, protect our security; but we must also correct the grievances on which terrorism feeds. Crime requires police work, not military action.”
George Soros, August 12, 1930.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        The new version’s worth a go, Olga: at least, I think so.   And I’ll keep my eyes open for you: stay safe!
(Kansas City’s in Missouri … and the song about it’s in Oklahomaª … ?   America’s a funny old place.)

Hello Mum!   (If you DO see Mark, tomorrow, tell him it’s Left Hander’s Day!)

I didn’t Debbi.   But I did know there’s a Brentwood in Los Angeles.   About the only thing I know about the place, is that Marilyn Monroe died there.   (Oh, there’s a song about Kansas City in Oklahomaª… )

^        He’s new to me, Trevor.   But at leas he’s spelt the name correctly: ie is the Scottish version of the name, ey is the Irish one.

ª        Just so Olga and Debbi know?   And as there’s a train in that clip?   Did you know the harmonica parts in blues songs are supposed to be trains?

Your name sake gave up his job 3 or 4 years ago and became a professional Vlogger on YouTube and Patreon. This has enabled him to travel the world doing travel Vlogs. I think he has a good income. I have noticed other North Americans doing similar. Being a Miser I only watch the free channels on YouTube and click the like button to help out the You-tubers.

Due to the pandemic he had to stay at home in Vancouver. So he had to do many vlogs on Vancouver which I have enjoyed.

Greater Vancouver has many districts named after places in the UK. There is Surrey, Richmond, New Westminster and of course Brentwood.

I have visited them all.

Oh, I didn't know about the harmonica and the trains, but it makes sense.
Due to a yellow warning for heat, we changed our plans for today, and then I had a bit of an issue with my travel card (that I thought I had lost, but after arranging an appointment to try and sort it out, I found again), so it's been quite a morning.
Have a good day, even if it is a Friday!
