Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 6-8-2022 — Jamaica?

6th August, 2022.

Yes, it’s Saturday: and I’ve just enough money to go shopping.

Or, at least, get some milk, and cornflakes.

And possibly bread!

Either way?

A nice healthy walk would do me good.

You’re wondering today’s question set is ‘Jamaica?’ rather is ‘Jamaica’ … aren’t you?

It’s a nod to an old joke.

Fred: Me and the wife are going on holiday; to a Caribbean island.
Harry: Jamaica?
Fred: No, she wanted to go.

I didn’t say it was a good joke.

Oh … and JUST in case you’re interested?

I’ll have my review of Monsters — the next episode of Star Trek Picard — up, tonight.

I hope you enjoy it!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        6th August, 1962, saw Jamaica become independent.   From where: the UK, the USA or China?

Q2)        What’s Jamaica’s capital: Port-au-Prince, Kingston or Havana?

Q3)        Jamaica’s currency is the Jamaican what: dollar, pound or peso?

Q4)        Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff and Lee Perry, are famous for which Jamaican music: reggae, ragamuffin or dancehall?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Red Stripe is a famous Jamaican what: beer, rum or whiskey?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        5th August, 1862, saw the birth of Joseph Merrick: best remembered as the Elephant Man.   He was also known as what: John, James or Jimmy?
A1)        John.

Q2)        He was born where: Leicester, London or Luton?
A2)        Leicester.

Q3)        He was exhibited as ‘the Elephant Man,’ by a showman called Tom Norman: in what people then called a penny what: giff, gaff or goblet?
A3)        Penny gaff.

Q4)        Who played Merrick in the 1980 film, The Elephant Man?
A4)        John Hurt.   (It’s possibly Lynch’s best film: and has incredible performances from all concerned: including for Hurt, himself.   Scandalously?   It won none of the Oscars it was nominated for.   It wasn’t even nominated for Best Make Up, as the category didn’t exist at the time.   The category was introduced, a year later, as a result of people complaints.   It’s also the first film I can remember with an obscure Welsh actor called Tony Hopkins. )

Q5)        Finally … ?   Joseph died of asphyxia: at what age: 25, 27 or 29?
A5)        27.   (He usually slept with his head on his knees: in order to support its weight.   His death?   Is blamed on a desire to try and sleep normally: his friend and doctor, Frederick Treves, felt was a contributing factor in his death.)
Here’s a thought …
“Jamaica is so musical, diverse and so extreme, from people singing in the streets to dancing.”
Kreesha Turner.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum: see you this evening!

It seems his soft tissues are buried at the City of London Cemetery and Crematoria, Olgaª.   But you’re right: it should be all of him.   Given how much laser scanning and 3d printing can do, it’s a scandal any of his remains are still there.   And, from the little I read?   There’s little chance of recovering and genetic material left: as the skeleton’s been damaged by the various preserving agents.
The meetings went well enough, thankfully: and I was able to sneak into Romford, as well.   Good luck, whatever you do with the flat: hopefully, things will go well.

It’s incredibly sad, Debbiª, isn’t it?   And he only wanted to sleep like everyone else.   That’s the bit I find really sad!
Well … it should be in the same place it usually is: in Applications>Utilities^.   In the pictures I’ve added, the current version is at the bottom: the middle picture is the same app in Lion.   (The top version has a helpful arrow)

^        You can get to the Utilities folder by pressing CMD (⌘), Shift (⇧) and U.

ª        How’s today’s Teaser video looking?   I’ve been making a few subtle changes: as I’ve done a stock intro and outro.   It helps cut down on recording time.

Thanks, Paul. I hope the shopping goes well.
The video looks good to me, although I only watched it on the small screen within the post, so don't take my word for it.
Oh, and we did get the storm as promised, although a bit later than announced. It caught people unawares (not that they hadn't warned about it, but seeing people running out of the beach was funny).
