Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21st August, 2022

21st August, 2022.

I have to admit, I was doing a review, last night: of episode nine of Star Trek Picard.

And, of course, realised one thing.

One of the characters — one played by Sol Rodriguez — is called Teresa Ramirez.

I have to ask, have you ever seen Highlander*?   The Christopher Lambert film about an immortal warrior seeking to win a mystical prize … by decapitating his rival immortal warriors.

It’s a great film: in part, because its villain — the Kurgan, played by Clancy Brown — was an over the top monster!

With a very distinct voice.

The film’s also featured the late Sean Connery: as a character called Ramirez: who eventually ends up getting killed by the Kurgan.

Ever since … ?

I can never hear the name, Ramirez … without hearing Clancy Brown saying it!

Arrgh!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga†, Mum‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        21st August, 1944, saw the start of the Dumbarton Oaks Conference.   The Conference led to the establishment of what: the United Nations, European Union or the African Union?

Q2)        21st August, 1973, saw a coroner accuse the British Army of murder.   The coroner investigating what: Bloody Sunday, Manic Monday or Ruby Tuesday?

Q3)        21st August is the feast day of Maximilian of Antioch.   What’s left of Antioch is in which country: Turkey, Israel or Saudi Arabia?

Q4)        21st August, 1986, saw the birth of Usain Bolt.   He’s Jamaica’s most successful what: musician, politician or sprinter?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Kim Catrall was born on 21st August, 1956.   She played Samantha Jones in which TV series: Starsky and Hutch, Angel Falls or Sex and the City?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        20th August is World Mosquito Day.   Mosquitoes are what: insects, reptiles or mammals?
A1)        Insects.

Q2)        Mosquitoes spread what: HIV/AIDS, malaria or bubonic plague?
A2)        Malaria.   (HIV/AIDS is usually spread sexually, or by sharing contaminated fluids.   Bubonic plague is spread by fleas.)

Q3)        Which mosquitoes spread that disease: males ones or female ones?
A3)        Female ones.   (It’s only the female ones that drink blood: the males usually have plant nectar.)

Q4)        Mosquitoes have four stages in their life cycle: adult, pupa, larva and what?
A4)        Egg.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Mosquitoes are a type of what: fly, bee or ant?
A5)        A fly.
Here’s a thought …
“I like movies I can relate to.”
Kim Catrall, born 21st August, 1956.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        The film sees Frenchman, Christopher Lambert, playing a Scottish character.   Sean Connery was a Scottish actor playing an immortal Egyptian warrior, who’s pretending to be Spanish.   Whilst Brown is American … playing a Russian.   It possibly balances out, somewhere …

Oh, my pleasure, Olga: I’m just glad I could provide something entertaining.   It definitely sound like you had a busy day!
Oh, right, gotcha: there’s always that one passenger that can make things better or worse.   The BBC report says that only ten people were hurt.   I’m hoping it’s not got worse … ?   (Staff on trains are a problem: the strikes — on Southern Rail, a few years ago — hinged on it.)
As a final thought … ?   I’ve an earworm: that’s possibly wrong, given the circumstances …

        Hello, Mum!

^        I think that’s a more recent stage version, Debbi: as far as I can tell.   Nathan Lane was in the original Broadway run, I know that.   And Barrowman’s best known for his stage work.   From what I know, he’s been doing musicals for years!
Actually, now I think of it?   You remember Alan Cumming?   He played James 1st in The Witchfinders?   His version of the MC in Cabaret is supposed to be something to watch.

Yes, you're right about the number of people injured. Yesterday, two were still in hospital.
Today, considering it was the first morning, it was quite busy already. It could get pretty tiring, but that's what it is like.
Have a great Sunday.

Yeah, I think I've seen that one. He's also really good.

I should probably review No Time to Die (a misleading name if there ever was one) at some point. :)
