It has to be said: unemployment can bite, sometimes.

Right now?
The thing that does spoil the mood — especially in the run up to the weekend — is simply the lack of cash.
That?
That, I find, tends to limit my going out: much as I’d love to go grab a coffee with friends, the fact I can’t stand a round?
Is something I find very demotivating.
I swear … if I ever win the lottery … ?
The first thing I do will grab a social life!

Still … ?
And as I said in the intro, there?
The one thing that usually keeps me motivated, at the moment?
Is simple I’ve access to quite a bit of watchable TV.
Over the past couple of days?
Tonight’s a Friday night, though.

Episode 12 — Through the Valley of Shadows — sees the Discovery receiving a fourth signal from the Red Angel.
This one?
In orbit around the Klingon monastery world of Boreth.
Where Captain Pike (Anson Mount) has to get a time crystal: at the cost of finding out the future isn’t as rosy as it could be.
Meanwhile … ?
Michael and Spock (Sonequa Martin Green and Ethan Peck) are chasing a Section 31 ship that seems to have gone off grid: reporting back ten minutes later than it should have done.
They head off under Saru’s (Doug Jones) orders.
Only to find the ship emptied of both oxygen … and crew.
Bar one — Kamren Gant (Ali Momen) — who seems to have survived.
Their only option, at this point? Is to get on that ship, find its logs …
And try regaining control of its compromised computer system.
Do you get the feeling they could be running into … a trap?

Now … ?
Yes: this episode has certainly lifted my mood.
Not necessarily because it’s a good episode: although it is that.
But simply because’s allowed me to involve myself in Discovery’s ongoing story*.
It helps … that it’s also taking the plot line forward: and left us with something of a cliffhanger ending: know Captain Pike is going to be crippled …
It’s showing us a potential reason for that Pike’s vision …
Frankly?

* One part of that? Simply the ongoing situation with Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp). As we know, the death and resurrection of his spouse, Hugh Culber, has put an immense strain on they marriage. To the point where Hugh is getting wise advise from Engineer, Jet Reno† (Tig Notaro). And I’m yelling “Stop MOPING, man!”
