Sunday 4 August 2019

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4th August, 2019

4th August, 2019.

It’s officially official.

It’s Sunday: and, like many other Sundays?

I suspect it’s going to be a quiet one.

After all, I’m still waiting for a set of results from recent hospital test: no news is good news, they say, but the sooner it gets here, the better.

And I’m still waiting to hear if the company I’m due to start working for will accept my adoption papers as proof of my right to work in the UK.

Apparently?

The woman that interviewed me?

Is going to be checking, tomorrow.

Monday can’t come soon enough.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: scoring five out of five in the process.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) NASA launched its Phoenix spacecraft: on 4th August, 2007.   It landed on Mars, in which year?
Q2) 4th August, 1984, saw Burkina Faso’s name changed: to Burkina Faso.   From what?
Q3) 4th August, 1704, saw an Anglo-Dutch fleet capture where?
Q4) 4th August, 1821, Saw the first publication of the Saturday Evening Post.   Which painter painted over three hundred covers for the Post: Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein or Norman Rockwell?
Q5) Finally … ?   Which English poet was born on 4th August, 1792?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) Christopher Columbus left Palos de la Frontera on 3rd August of which year?
A1) 1492.
Q2) He was heading for what he thought was where: Africa, the Indies, or the Americas?
A2) The Indies: or Asia, if you want to be picky.
Q3) The voyage was sponsored by Ferdinand and Isabella … of where?
A3) Spain.   Although, strictly?   Ferdinand was king of Aragon, Isabella was Queen of Castile: their marriage, and the union of the two crowns, was the foundation of modern Spain.
Q4) Name any one of the three ship Columbus took on the voyage.
Q5) Finally … ?   Columbus made landfall on an island he called San Salvador: that’s either in the Bahamas or the Turks and Caicos Islands.   In which ocean are those islands?
A5) The Atlantic.
Here’s a thought …
“Oh, it’s nice to get up in the mornin’, But it’s nicer to lie in bed.”
Sir Harry Lauder, 4 August 1870 – 26 February 1950.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Well … it’s fixable, Debbi: it’s going to be tomorrow I finally hear, though.   I’m half hoping they turn me down: I can have a really good whinge, that way!   And possibly complain.   You can tell I’m feeling snotty about it, can’t you … ?   (We got the same sort of education: although it focused more on the Pilgrim Fathers.   They sailed from Plymouth, after all.)

  1. That’s a thought, Debbi: we’ve got the news about the shooting at the garlic festival.

AND the shooting in El Paso.

Now, the news has told me there’s another active one in Ohio

What the bloody hell is going on … ?

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.

*   I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
