Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-11-2019: Blunt

16th November, 2019.

You know, I get the feeling something’s happening that I’m not getting told about.

I — finallyish — had my boiler fixed, yesterday.

It seems to be giving me both heating and hot water.

But … ?

Having had the supervisor down — who told me the element needed replacing — the the engineer, yesterday — who told me the job looked like it would take up to three hours, then took half an hour to replace a sensor, and then told the boiler still needed replacing — I’m getting the feeling there’s a lot of …

If you’ll excuse the language, I’m getting the feeling there’s a lot of crap being talked.

Hmmm …

Can I make a confession?

I’m not a fan of the BBC’s Children in Need charity shindigs.

So … ?   Last night, I had V for Vendetta on, instead: whilst writing a few teasers, and adding questions to my quiz spreadsheet.

Ha!   That thing used to fit on a floppy disk, many years ago.

There was a Dr Who themed piece, though: for a little girl called Anastasia, who needed up getting her own Sonic Screwdriver.

Which is nice.

I’m … hmmm … just a touch disappointed they team didn’t write and produce a themed scene: as they’ve done in earlier years.

Oh, well …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* putting in her answers: scoring ten out of ten in the process.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 16th November saw Professor Anthony Blunt revealed as a spy: by whom?
Q2) Blunt was known as the fourth … what?
Q3) Blunt was part of a group of spies: who were spying for which country?
Q4) The group had met whilst where: Oxford, Cambridge or Saint Andrews?
Q5) Finally?   Name one of the other members of the spy ring Blunt was part of.
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) The Free City of Danzig was founded: on 15th November of which year?
A1) 1920.
Q2) The City State’s consisted of around two-hundred or so towns and villages: around which port?
A2) Danzig: now known as Gdańsk.
Q3) That port?   Is on the coast of which Sea?
A3) The Baltic.
Q4) The city was bordered by Poland to the west… and where, to the east?
A4) Germany: or, at least, the then German Empire: which had some territory to the east of Danzig, and claimed parts of Poland.
Q5) The City was set up as part of the Treaty of where?
Q6) Danzig was also under the protection of what: the League of Nations, the United Nations or the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation?
Q7) The city’s creation was in the wake of which war?
Q8) Who wrote the Danzig Trilogy?
Q9) That writer was born in 1927.   Where?
A9) The Free City of Danzig, itself.
Q10) Finally … ?   Danzig is now in which country?
A10) Poland: it’s now called Gdańsk.
Here’s a thought …
“Because something is not what it is said to be, Ma’am, does not mean it is a fake. It may just have been wrongly attributed.”
Attributed to Anthony Blunt by Alan Bennett.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Cheers, Olga.   The group that did the phone interview contacted me in the afternoon: I’ve got a face to face one with them on Monday.   I think I’m going to need my research skills for this.   It’s local, the right sort of hours … and the woman doing the phone interview thought I sounded about thirty years younger than I am!   Moving on … I think I’m going to have to catch Doctor Sleep†: it’s been getting flattering remarks, as well.   Now … if we can JUST find Debbi!

†        Is it me, or does Ewan McGregor like doings sequels and prequels?

  1. Q1) 1979
Q2) Man (I was about to start humming the music, but the film is the Third Man… What a fantastic film!)
    Q3) Russia
    Q4) Cambridge
    Q5) Guy Burgess
Debbi was around on Twitter, wasn’t she? Perhaps there was a mishap with posting the answers, or she was too busy. I hope she’s well. Good luck with the face-to-face interview (you do sound youthful, I agree, but hopefully age won’t be a problem). I agree on the heating issue. I’m pleased to hear it’s finally working, although yes, there’s something going on.
I was thinking the same about Ewan McGregor. As for Doctor Sleep, I wasn’t sure about the fact that they didn’t use footage from the original movie, and they reproduced it, but it makes sense but, most of us will remember the original.
    Have a good weekend!
Ah, they do something called La Marató de TV3 here, and I've offered myself as a volunteer, so I'll be answering phones... I have to attend a session to learn what to do next week, but I thought it would make an interesting item for the radio, so I'll cover it too.

  2. Perhaps the producers like him in sequels and prequels. Or maybe his agent or manager picks this movies based on the potential for them. Just a thought. :)

BTW, if you want to check my ridiculous attempt at a British accent, here it is: https://youtu.be/dpkL9w4oPAI

I couldn't stop myself from laughing on the word "bollocks"! (If you'll pardon my language!)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
