Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-2-2020: The Phone Book.

21st February, 2020.

You know BT — my internet service and phone provider — are wonderful.

Really.

They’re kind, warm and wonderfully fluffy, and you can pet them for hours.

He says, with his tongue very firmly stuck in his cheek.

On a more honest front?

They’ve decided to stop supporting desktop email clients.

Which means I can’t use Thunderbird or Mail to access my email: just the website.

Not something I’m happy with …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 21st February saw the publication of the first telephone directory.   In which year: 1878, 1879 or 1880?
Q2) In which Connecticut city?
Q3) How many entries did that directory have: forty, forty-five or fifty?
Q4) Entries in phone books are usually in what order: numerical, alphabetical or comma separated values?
Q5) The first British phone book was published, when: 1879, 1880 or 1881?
Q6) In the US and Canada, blue pages are phone books that list services from whom: businesses, theatres or government agencies?
Q7) Who publishes the UK’s current, domestic phone book?
Q8) Domestic phone directories are usually printed on what colour paper?
Q9) In most countries?   Business phone books are on what colour paper?
Q10) Finally … ?   Edward Charon held the record for doing what to fifty-six phone books: reading them, singing them or ripping them in half?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 20th February saw the birth of singer, Rihanna.   In which country?
A1) Barbados.
Q2) In which year?
A2) 1988.
Q3) What was the first label she signed with?
A3) Def Jam.
Q4) Her first UK number 1 was in 2007.   Called Umbrella‡, it featured Rihanna as the main singer.   And featured a rap from whom?
A4) Jay-Z.
Q5) Finally … ?   What’s Rihanna’s first name?
A5) Robyn: as in Robyn Rihanna Fenty.   (Rihanna is her middle name, in other words.)
Here’s a thought …
“Telephone books are, like dictionaries, already out of date the moment they are printed … ”
Ammon Shea.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Arrrghghghghghghgh!   And the best we can do, Olga, is IMDb: they’ve added a fourth season to El Ministerio’s entry!   And there’s not a thing on YouTube!   Apart from an interview or two with Aura Garrida … in Spanish.   I WISH we’d done Spanish at my school!   At ANY rate … ?   You might like today’s Teaser video.   The theme tune gets a mention … As for the catch … ?   Boy, it’s been a while since I’ve seen a laptop with a catch!

†        You know, I’ve seen trailers for Knives Out go past, Debbi: I’m going to have to keep my eyes peeled for it!   It’d be nice to see Daniel Craig do something other than Bond.   Remind me to mention Layer Cake, as well!

‡        The song suffers from the Curse Of Rihanna.   Storm Ciara Was in full flow when I wrote the set.   It’s a co-incidence!

Yes, that laptop was a long time ago (the one with the catch). I think it was a Sony VAIO, but I think my cousin ended up inheriting it (for parts or whatever he does with them). The team of el Ministerio are surely keeping their cards very close to the chest. Oh, if Debby recommended Knives Out, I second that. It's fun and very well made. And Daniel Craig is very good in it (everybody is, actually. And they all seem to have a ball, especially Daniel and Chris Evans).

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
