Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7th May, 2020

7th May, 2020.

Are you following me on Instagram?

I’m on Instagram, in case you didn’t know: and managed to that — a few days ago — I’d whipped up a batch of homemade spaghetti Bolognese.   And show it off.

And blown my fuses, as a part of proceedings.

Well …

I made a batch of my homemade chilli.

Enough for four people …

And — here’s the important bit — haven’t blown my fuses!

~≈≈~

I have to admit, I saw a little bit of sad news, yesterday.

Florian Schneider, co-founder of Kraftwerk, died yesterday.

I wasn’t a huge fan: OMD were more my thing.

But … ?

A significant chuck of my collection has his name on the cover, somewhere …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Trevor† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with all three scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 7th May, 1952, saw Geoffrey Dummer introduce the what: integrated circuit, transistor or microwave oven?
Q2) María Eva Duarte was born on 7th May, 1919.   She’s best remembered as the First Lady of where?
Q3) 7th May, 1956, saw the UK’s Health minister reject a campaign against what: smoking, drinking or fried food?
Q4) 7th May is the feast day of John of Beverly.   Beverly is in which Riding of Yorkshire: East, West, North or South?
Q5) Finally … the Treaty of London was signed on 7th May, 1832.   It recognised the independence of where: Greece, Cyprus or Armenia?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 6th May saw the Queen, and the President of France, formally open the Channel Tunnel.   In which year of the 1990s?
A1) 1994.
Q2) Who was that French President?
Q3) The Tunnel goes from Coquelles, near the French city of Calais, to Folkestone.   Folkestone is in which English county?
A3) Kent.
Q4) What’s the name to the passenger train service the goes through the Tunnel?
A4) Eurostar.
Q5) Finally … ?   The French name for the Channel Tunnel is Le tunnel sous what?
A5) La manche.   (It’s the French name for the Channel: and is usually translated as the sleeve.)
Here’s a thought …
“My parents never got along. It was a very ugly scene to be a part of.”
Traci Lords, born May 7, 1968.
And some music …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        I am definitely looking forward to it, Olga!   Not having a release date’s a definite pain, though!    I’m going to be watching a LOT more movies, I think … and possibly dig up The Mandalorian!   Oh, and Penny Dreadful: City of Angels!   I think I’ve recognised what the Santa Muerte character is wearing: it’s an old fashioned mantilla, the headscarf, with a really complicated comb!   (I came across the word, years ago: it was for a quiz question, wouldn’t you know it!)

†        North Yorkshire Railway, Trevor?   Are they still going … ?

‡       Hitchcock?   Why thank you, Debbi!   Although I don’t think he’d’ve known what to do with a pyraminx, if you told him!   At any rate?   The Seventh Seal’s one heck of a film!   Complete with Max von Sydow.   He played Liet-Kynes in David Lynch’s Dune, by the bye.   Sharon Duncan-Brewster, the woman playing the character in the upcoming remake, has one hell of a pair of shoes to fill.   (Turns out she was in The Waters of Mars!)

You're right about the mantilla, although instead of a peineta what she's wearing in the head reminds me of a Russian headdress (Kokoshnik)... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kokoshnik
I like the look of the chili.

Yes to give it its correct name The North Yorkshire Moor Railway. I think Channel 4 has run a number of series on the Railway and the people who work there. My favourite is the guy in charge of the Locomotive shed and who is nicknames "Piglet".

Like all the other heritage railways it has been hit hard by Covid-19 and like all others is asking for donation to keep it going when they are allowed to reopen.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
