Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-11-2020: The Gunpowder Plot

5th November, 2020.

Yes: it’s official.

Dogs bark … when fireworks are let off.

As they did — and were — last night.

Yes: we’re officially in Lockdown, again.

Frankly?   I’m not happy: I’m not sure if I’ll be Jude-sitting, to give you an example.

I’m social bubbled, though: so that’s something.

But … ?

Job hunting’s getting harder.   Having friends around is a no go …

And non essentials — like libraries — look like they’re shut.

Hey …

Ho … !

~≈😶≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Debbi‡ and Edith^ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, Mum on three and Edith on two.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1)        “Remember, remember, the fifth of November: gunpowder, treason and plot.   I know of no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be … ” what?

Q2)        The plot in the rhyme was a plot to blow up what: the House of Commons, the House of Lords or Buckingham Palace?

Q3)        The man who placed the explosive, Guy Fawkes, placed thirty-six what of gunpowder: sticks, barrels or crates?

Q4)        The Plot took place in which year: 1604, 1605 or 1606?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Plot was a plot to assassinate the then King of England.   Which King of England: James 6th and 1st, James 4th and 10th or Charles 3rd?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        4th November, 1916, saw the birth the most trusted man in America.   In other words, which news anchor?
A1)        Walter Cronkite.

Q2)        4th November, 1946, saw the birth of Robert Mapplethorpe.   He found fame as a what: a painter, sculptor or photographer?
A2)        A photographer.   (I’ve just seen one of his more … um … extreme photos.   We can safely say he liked  causing a fuss!)

Q3)        4th November, 1935, saw the birth of Australian actor and singer, Barry Crocker.   Who did he play in The Adventures of Barry McKenzie?
A3)        Barry McKenzie.

Q4)        4th November, 1923, saw the birth Dutch businessman, Freddy Heineken.   The company he was chairman of, Heineken International, was a what: brewery, pharmaceutical company or hotel chain?
A4)        A brewery.

Q5)        Finally … ?   4th November, 1918, saw the birth of actor, Art Carney.   In which 1993 film did he play Frank?
A5)        Last Action Hero.
Here’s a thought …
“I thought we could mark this November the 5th, a day that is sadly no longer remembered, by taking some time out of our daily lives to sit down and have a little chat.”
V (Hugo Weaving) in V for Vendetta.
An explosion …

And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        It looks like Joe Biden’s gaining a lead, there, Olga.   Hopefully, he’ll win it: he seems FAR more presidential than Donald Trump.   Mid you — and I’ve said this before — Vice President Mike Pence sounds more presidential than Donald Trump: and, if I’ve understood things correctly, Pence is slightly to the right of General Franco!
At ANY rate: the next meeting’s this afternoon … so I’m looking forward to it.
Hang on, the washing machine’s lasted a month?   I’ll keep my fingers crossed … but remind me to tell you about planned obsolescence

†        Morning, Mum.   I still remember the death of Princess Diana.   (There’s talk THAT interview, by the way.)

‡        From what I’ve seen on the BBC’s news site, Debbi?   Twitter have hidden several of Donald’s Tweets: on the grounds he’s handing out misleading information about the elections, AND on Covid-19: at least that’s going by this piece.   According to the same piece, Facebook and Instagram are showing US users warnings: reminding you that the count’s not over, amongst other things.   Biden’s not got too many, Trump has a few!

^        If it’s any help, Edith?   The BBC’s news site tell us that Joe Biden’s ahead on electoral college votes.   That should help!   (It strikes me using the UK’s First Past the Post election system could make US elections quicker: it does have it’s flaws, but … … )

  1. Q1) forgot (I’d better not use this rhyme to teach English, at least to beginners).
    Q2) The House of Lords
    Q3) barrels
    Q4) 1605
    Q5) James 6th and 1st
Oh, I know about planned obsolescence and watched a TV programme about it. My mother prefers top-loading washing machines, because there is little space for the machine outside, and I have long suspected that they have more problems than standard ones. We suspect the drum might have opened during the cycle because we can't open it. It must be a fault with it, but it has hijacked the clothes, and I have no idea how they will be after spending so much time inside. And we haven't heard from them yet, so we have no idea when they might turn up.
The American election results might prove a long-drawn affair, as Trump was already making noises about the Supreme Court, recounting and all kinds of nonsense. A circus, as usual. If you choose a monkey/clown, I guess that's what's to be expected. Although I'm being unfair to monkeys and clowns.
The lockdown... I think we're all expecting it might end up going that way here. Not far off from it already and we never let off the restrictions totally, so...

A5 James 6th and 1st or more correctly James VI and I

Is there a lock down? I saw more cars than normal on Hanging Hill Lane when I went for my paper and other vital supplies this morning. May have been the molly-coddled teenagers being taken to St. Martin’s school because it was misty and cold.

Nice mess over the water. Looks like they may be in for their second civil war.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
