Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-6-2021: Yen

27th June, 2021.

Yep: stuff … I’m thinking of doing stuff!

But you’d possibly guessed that, hadn’t you … ?

You know perfectly well that — if I’m using the intro video to tell you I’m going to do stuff? — it’s going to be a quiet day.

One that’s possibly going to involve washing: in the shiny new washing machine.

And marvelling at the fact it’s fast, and quiet … !

Oh, and makes a beeping noise that gets me think of some of the sound effects in The Silurians.

If I ever get the chance, I’ll try and dig that up!

~≈†≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Debbi‡ and Edith^ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, Mum on four, and Edith on two.

The day also saw Trevorª leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        The Yen was adopted as currency on 27th June.   Of which year: 1869, 1870 or 1871?

Q2)        As currency of where: Japan, Thailand or Bangladesh?

Q3)        The international — or Latin — symbol for the Yen is based on which Latin letter: X, Y or Z?

Q4)        What’s the smallest Yen banknote: ¥500, ¥1000 or ¥2000?

Q5)        Finally … ?   One yen equals one hundred what: sen, den or zen?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        President John F. Kennedy announced “Ich bin ein Berliner,” on 26th June, 1963.   Which German city was he in, when he did so?
A1)        Berlin.

Q2)        The US Supreme Court ruled that same sex couples could marry: on 26th June, 2015.   Under which Amendment to the Constitution: the Fourteenth, Fifteenth or Sixteenth.
A2)        The Fourteenth (14th). (The Amendment addresses equal rights.)

Q3)        George 4th of the UK died: on 26th June, 1830.   Who succeeded him as monarch: William 4th, William 5th or Victoria?
A3)        William 4th.

Q4)        The Queen opened the Saint Lawrence Seaway, on 26th June, 1959: along side President Eisenhower of the USA.   The Seaway connects the Great Lakes to what: the Atlantic or the Pacific?
A4)        The Atlantic.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Peter Lorre was born on 26th June, 1904.   Who directed him, in the 1930, German film, M: Alfred Hitchcock, Fritz Lang or F. W. Murnau?
A5)        Fritz Lang.
Here’s a thought …
“The name yen derives from an ancient term for Chinese round coins (yuan).”
From the Encyclopaedia Britannica entry on the Yen.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        You know, that’s exactly what he was in a great big pile of, Olga!   That Tweeter was accurate!   Well … until last night: that’s when Matt Hancock resigned!

†        Hello, Mum!

‡        I know!   That had me wetting myself, Debbi!   Oh … he resigned, last night!   He’ll be on the back benches … rather than North Wales!

^        You know, I hadn’t thought of that, Edith?   I was wondering why the camel was there!   At any rate … ?   I’ve had this ear worming it’s way through my head … !

ª        OK … maybe I should have put ‘aide,’ Trevor.   And ANY rate … ?   He’s resigned.   And, according to some reports … ?   His wife’s kicked him out.   Or he’s left her.   One of the two …

What an idiot! Yes, they mentioned that here as well. I hadn't worked as a doctor in the UK for quite a while, in any case, but I do get e-mails and news and get to read the UK doctors forum every so often, and I can't remember a good comment about him anywhere. Although I have no idea what the replacement will be like. Even when we don't think it's possible, they always seem to manage to find somebody even worse!
Enjoy using your new washing machine!

  2. As a kid in the late 1950's and early 1960's I used to go to Saturday morning Cinema and watched a lot of Laurel and Hardy as well as the original Flash Gordon as a serial in black and white. Good old days before Saturday morning kids shows on the telly.

I certainly enjoyed Laurel and Hardy

    Here is a typical film.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
