It’s got to be said: I’ve not been watching much TV, recently.
Or films.
Keeping up with a course, job hunting, making Teaser videos, ripping a pile of blu-rays.
It all takes away from watching the proverbial goggle-box.
As a replacement? I’ve been reading a good book at bedtime.
After all, a couple of chapters can be read in less time than an TV show.
Well … apart from The Mandalorian: the show makes for riveting, and short, drama.
At any rate … ?
I’ve been getting a whole series of early nights … and reading a book at bedtime.
I’ve just finished Asimov’s Foundation: which I’ve thorough enjoyed.
And started Orwell’s Homage to Catalonia.
I finished chapter one, where Orwell tells us about joining the International Bridge, in Barcelona.
The man was a genius.
I found one line that appealed to me: and know for a fact others will also find one.
‘It was not exactly a uniform. Perhaps a “multiform” would be the proper name for it. Everyone’s clothes followed the same general plan, but they were never quite the same in any two cases.’
Homage to Catalonia, Chapter One.
‘All Spaniards, we discovered, knew two English expressions. One was “O.K., baby,” the other was a word used by the Barcelona whores in their dealings with English sailors, and I am afraid the compositors would not print it.’
Homage to Catalonia, Chapter Four.

Let’s move on, shall we?
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor*, Debbi† and Edith‡ and putting in their answers: with Trevor and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Edith on four.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
“But let there be no misunderstanding: Tolerance does not mean ‘anything goes’. There must be zero tolerance towards all those who show no respect for the inalienable rights of the individual and who violate human rights.”
* Cheers, Trevor: I’ll keep that in mind. Now the only issue is having a date to hang a set on. (US states have a date to hand a set on: usually, the day they joined the Union, or the day they ratified the constitution. English counties and Canadian provinces/territories don’t seem to have that. Or, at least, seem to have that listed on Wikipedia.)
† I’ve got vague memories of it, Debbi: and of how different the two seasons were. I think they had different producers. And, as far as I know? All of the sets and designs were originally designed for season two of UFO: which never got made. (As I recall? At one point in the opening episode of UFO, the main character describes the invading aliens as “Hereditarily sterile.” You have to wonder …!)
‡ He had quite a range, didn’t he, Edith? All the way from Love of My Life, to Under Pressure, to One Vision!

Now a days most counties have days. My home county Lincolnshire has its day on 1st October. The next door county of Yorkshire has its day on 1st August. And the county that we both live in (Essex) has its day on 26th October.
Each county has its own flag. I come from a county which has 3 “Part”s. I was born in the Part of Lindsey and so can fly the Flag of Lincolnshire and the flag of Lindsey.
The flag of Essex is very old with 3 notched Saxon seaxes (cutlasses).
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.

It's fun to watch old depictions of "the future", which we've surpassed at this point. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd where are the flying cars? :) It's bad enough that some of them drive themselves.
