Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 10th November, 2021.

10th November, 2021.

Yep: the pest controller’s due back, today.

At ten: so you know.

Hopefully?

I’ve not had any EXTRA visitors!

~≈🐭≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Edith‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring five out of five, and Olga, Mum and Edith on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1)        George Jennings was born on 10th November, 1810.   He’s generally credited with inventing what: the flush toilet, the reciprocating valve or the elbow pipe … ?

Q2)        Composer Ennio Morricone was born: on 10th November, 1928.   He composed music for A Fist Full of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and The Ugly. Who directed whose three films?.

Q3)        Actor, Richard Burton, was born on 10th November, 1925.   Which Jeff Wayne album did he narrate?

Q4)        The US Marine Corp was founded on 10th November, 1775.   They’re headquartered, where: the Pentagon, Guantanamo Bay or Marine Corps Base Quantico?

Q5)        Finally … ?   10 November is the feast day of Saint Andrew Avellino.   He’s a patron saint of where: Sicily, Corsica or Lesbos?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Edward 7th received the Cullinan Diamond: on 9th November, 1917.   As a what: birthday present, Christmas present or anniversary present?
A1)        A birthday present.

Q2)        The stone was roughly how many carats: 3106, 4106 or 5106?
A2)        3106.

Q3)        Diamonds are usually measured in carats.   What’s the abbreviation for ‘carat’: ct, cr or ca?
A3)        ct.

Q4)        The Cullinan came from what’s now which African nation … ?
A4)        South Africa.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Great Star of Africa, the largest diamond cut for the Cullinan, is in the Sovereign’s Sceptre with Cross.   The second largest, the Second Star of Africa, is in the Imperial State Crown.   Did the Queen wear the Imperial State Crown at her coronation: yes, or no?
A5)        No.   She wore Saint Edward’s Crown: the Imperial State Crown is used at the State Opening of Parliament.
Here’s a thought …

“The Welsh are all actors.   It’s only the bad ones who become professionalª.”
Richard Burton, 10 November 1925 – 5 August 1984.

And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hmmm … I might have to re-word that Imperial State Crown question, Olga, if I use it again.   I don’t know if she wore it at the Coronation: but the one she officially uses is St. Edward’s Crown.   It’s the one the British government usually uses as a logo.
At any rate … ?   I’ve managed to [ut the Civl Service course on hold: it’s a week long course, with nine hour day, and — as I told my case worker — seems a bit too much work for the amount of civil service jobs I’m getting sent.   We’ll have to see what the other course offers.
And the Rat Man’s due at ten: I’d better get my teatowels off the boil, just in case they’re in the way.

Hello, Mum!   (Alexandra ended up with some of them, Mum: I think the Queens got a lot of the loose ones.)

‡        Cheers Edith.   (It seems Om Shanti Om — the film Deewangi Deewangi’s from — is on iTunes: I’ll have to have a look.)

^        Ah the ol’ Holmes memory thing, Debbi.   Quite what he’d make of a pub quiz, I don’t know!
Oh … Nation is STILL the best thing Terry Pratchett wrote!
Now … Tell Me it’s Sam!!!!!!
Depend upon it there comes a time when for every addition of knowledge you forget something that you knew before. It is of the highest importance, therefore, not to have useless facts elbowing out the useful ones.”   (From A Study In Scarlet.)

ª        Quite what the Oscar winning Sir Anthony Hopkins would make of that …

Good luck with the Rat Man! Reading again about the two crowns, it seems that she would have worn the Imperial State Crown at the end of the ceremony, or at least that is what it says, so it depends on how you define "at the coronation"... If you consider the whole ceremony, she wore both, although not at the same time, evidently (why they need two... or any, is beyond me, but I'm not that fond of monarchy, as you've probably guessed). Check the first sentence in the usage section:

Good news about the course, I think.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
