Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4th January, 2022

4th January, 2022.

Yep: I’m up early.

Because of urine.

In other words, I’ve had to do a urine sample: and need to get it to the surgery, comparatively early.

Then get shopping … then get home by twelve.

I’ve got a repair man coming to fix my birth room light at twelve: and a job centre phone meeting at one-thirty.

I can only hope they’re done quickly!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        4th January, 1972, saw Rose Heilbronn become the first female Judge to sit at the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales.   The Court is also known as what: the Old Bailey, the Old Peculiar or the Old Shag?

Q2)        4th January, 2010, saw the opening of the Burj Khalifa: currently the world’s tallest building.   It’s where: Abu Dhabi, Dubai or Sharjah?

Q3)        4th January is World Braille Day.   Braille is ‘read’ with what: your eyes, ears or fingers?

Q4)        4th January is the feast day of Saint Angela of Foligno.   Where is Foligno: Italy, France or Croatia?

Q5)        Finally … ? 4th January, 1813, saw the birth of linguist, Sir Isaac Pitman.   Famously, he developed a form of what: hieroglyphs, braille or shorthand?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

A1)        Kicked him out.

Q2)        While we’re on the subject?   Which religious figure was excommunicated on 3rd January, 1521: Martin Luther, Martin Luther King or Saint Augustine?
A2)        Martin Luther.

Q3)        The Chang’e 4 probe landed on the far side of the Moon: on 3rd January, 2019.   Which country launched the probe: China, India, Japan, the USA or Russia?
A3)        China.

Q4)        Sergio Leone was born on 3rd January, 1929.   He’s credited with inventing the Spaghetti Western.   Many of these westerns were filmed where: where, Portugal, Spain or Ireland?
A4)        Spain.

Q5)        Finally … ?   3rd January, 1956, saw the birth of actor/director, Mel Gibson.   He won a Best Director Oscar for which 1995 film?
A5)        Braveheart.
Here’s a thought …
“I’ve been knocked down more than any heavyweight champion in history.”
Floyd Patterson, January 4, 1935 – May 11, 2006.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        You know … that looks a lot like old fashion rock, Olga!   At any rate, enjoy the day, whatever else happens!   Just make sure we get a photo of you in costume!

        Hello, Mum!

That movie must have been something to watch, Debbi!   And yes, dressage is quite something: although it’s not quick the same as horse racing!   (You know, I’ve never read any Dick Francis.   I do know he and Le Carre had something I common: they both wrote stories based in their old industries.)

  2. Just arrived home now and I am too tired to think. Funnily enough, I never took any pictures (I took one of my mother), but there have been many taken, so I will share them when I get them. There are plenty of the event, but I can't see myself in any of those.
Tomorrow we participate in the parade, but that is in the afternoon, so I hope to catch up in the morning.
    Stay safe!

  3. That's right. In fact, the author I mentioned used to raise and race horses herself.

Maryland is big into horse racing! You've heard of Pimlico? Part of the Triple Crown?

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
