Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-5-2022 — World Metrology Day

20th May, 2022.

Right …

It’s a Friday: you’ve worked that out.

And that means that I’ve one of the monthly weight management meetings: in person.

Which is one hell of a long walk.

At any?

I’m thankful for the BBC’s Weather report page.

It tells me the rain should’ve stopped, by then.

Here’s hoping!

~≈🌧≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        20th May is World Metrology Day: celebrating the science of measurement.   The International System of Units is usually known as what: SI, GI or IT?

Q2)        The System’s basic unit of time is the second.   The symbol for the second is a lower case what: s, z or w?

Q3)        The Metre — represent by the letter m — is the system’s measurement of what?

Q4)        The Kelvin — k — is a measure of temperature.   The lowest temperature in the Kelvin scale is what: -1, 0 or 1?

Q5)        Finally?   The Ampere is the unit for what: electric current, light or mass?
Yesterday’s answers are in today’s video.

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The Young Pioneers were founded: on 19th May, 1922.   Where: the USA, UK or USSR?
A1)        The USSR.

Q2)        The group is supposed to be its county’s version of the what: Scouts, YMCA or Freemasons?
A2)        The Scouts.

Q3)        The group’s motto was Всегда готов!.   In other words, Always what?
A3)        Ready, or Prepared: the Wikipedia entry uses both translations, so I’ll accept either.

Q4)        Pioneers wore what colour scarf?
A4)        Red.

Q5)        Finally?        The Pioneers had who on their badges: Mao Zedong, Vladimir Lenin or Fidel Castro?
A5)        Vladimir Lenin.

Here’s a thought …
“The International System of Units … is the modern form of the metric system and the world's most widely used system of measurement.”
From the Wikipedia entry on measuring …
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        It sounds like Little Anna need to learn how to use a calendar app, Olga^!   And Rebeca needs to make her mind up!   I don’t envy you!
Oh, I had a word with the pharmacist.   She’s suggested I take the used pens to them for separate disposal: as putting them in the sharps bin will fill the thing up too quickly.   (The sharp’s bin I have isn’t that much larger a margarine tub: and it seems putting the pens in, is optional.   The needles are detachable.)

        Hello, Mum^!

Doesn’t it just, Debbi^?   There’s shots of him being pushed around by David Tennant, I know that.   There’s also talk of a Christmas special: but you know what fan gossip is like!

^        I like the ruler in today’s photo …

Yes, I think I know the size of bin you are talking about. Nurses who went to people's homes used to carry some like those. I'm sure it's different when you do your own injections. One of the issues with removing the needles (not so much now with vacutainers, but when we used proper needles and syringes) was the risk of sharp injuries, and exposing yourself to somebody else's blood. Good if they recycle the pens.
Good luck with your meeting. Walking before the meeting cannot be bad, especially if they are right about the rain.
Regarding Anna and Rebeca... I haven't heard from any of them yet, but I imagine that once the course (or perhaps, if Rebeca goes for the exam, after the exam) I won't see them again. To tell you the truth, the money isn't worth all the hassle, the time (and money) spent preparing the lessons, photocopying and printing stuff, going to people's houses... And I don't do enough hours for it to make any difference, so... I am thinking of removing my name from the agency's books. I might carry on with Jordi's classes if he wants to, but now that his wife is retired as well, the classes will be far and few between, so it would be anecdotal...

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
