Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-6-2022 — John Goodman

20th June, 2022.

Right: it’s Monday out there.

And?   It’s looking sunny, as well.

Which means having a stroll, later, will be pleasant.

Saying that?

I’ve got my nephew Jude, this afternoon: I think opening a window could be good!

~≈Ï≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        20th June, 1952, saw the birth of actor, John Goodman.   He first played Dan Conner in which series: The Conners, All in the Family or Roseanne?

Q2)        He voiced Mr Prenderghast: in which 2012 film: Don’t Go In The Woods, Being Flynn or ParaNorman?

Q3)        He plays Fred Flintstone in the live-action version of The Flintstones.   The Flintstones was released in which year of the 1990s?

Q4)        1992’s The Babe saw John Goodman playing Babe Ruth.   Babe Ruth was possibly America’s most famous what: baseball player, racing driver or chess player?

Q5)        Finally … ?   2017 saw John Goodman played Emmett Kurzfeld in Atomic Blonde.   Who played the main character in Atomic Blonde: Charlize Theron, Debbie Harry or Cate Blanchett?
Yesterday’s answers are in today’s video.

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        19th June is World Sickle Cell Day.   Sickle Cell Disease is a condition of the what: lungs, brain or blood?
A1)        Blood.

Q2)        It famously occurs in people whose ancestors came from where: Europe, Africa or South America?
A2)        Africa.

Q3)        We will get the condition if we have two abnormal copies of a what: gene, or chromosome?
A3)        Gene.   (If I’ve understood the difference?   A gene does one thing: a chromosome has lots of genes, and does lots of things.)

Q4)        If we only have one of those copies, we are said to be a what: carrier, carer or career?
A4)        A carrier.

Q5)        Finally?   Studies show that, if we only have one copy, we have better protection against what: leprosy, HIV/AIDS or malaria?
A5)        Malaria.   (I don’t know if that’s an upside.)
Here’s a thought …
“Celebrity is a dirty word.”
John Goodman.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

It helps they’ve got a writer on staff, then, Olga!
Oh, I’m still reading Shadow of The Winds, so you know.   Daniel and Bea have just fled the old Aldaya mansion: and fled through Plaza Núñez de Arce.   Is there something you should be telling us?   🤣

‡        Ohhh … It sounds like Peg Bracken would have been a good fit for the original Dr Who Cookbook, Debbi.   That had a recipe for Kippers of Traken.   (You know, there MAY be a package, coming!)

Oh, good for you. There are a few famous Núñez (none in my family, at least that I know), although perhaps the better known are Alvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca (cow's head...) whose narrative we read bits of in American history (early American history. His ship sank and he spent years walking across the whole of the States, trying to get to Mexico, sometimes getting enslaved by the Native Americans of a variety of tribes, but they usually ended up following him. Unfortunately, when he finally reached Mexico, they enslaved all these good people who were with him, despite his opposition and his fight against it) and Vasco Núñez de Balboa (whom, we were told discovered the Pacific. Can you actually discover an ocean? It must have been pretty evident... Anyway... Funnily enough, Núñez de Arce was a playwright and a poet, so perhaps we have more in common than with the other Núñez. It is a not an uncommon surname, although not as common as García and Pérez...
I hope you manage to go out for a bit and enjoy your nephew's visit. Regards to Jude, as always.
Oh, here the two guys I mentioned...

(I had never read the explanation for the Cabeza de Vaca name, but now that I've seen it, it's a pretty good story). I am sure a translated version of his account must be available for free somewhere, as it is ancient...

  2. I see you did a little time travel with yesterdays date on the quiz.

I remember Delia Smith doing a very basic cookery series. She spent half the first program teaching the viewers how to boil water. When that was learnt she spent the second half of the program teaching viewers how to boil Eggs.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
