Q5) Finally … ? 7th July, 1907, saw the birth of writer, Robert A. Heinlein. Which of his novels was filmed as 1997’s Starship Troopers?
A5) StarshipTroopers. (The main character, Juan ‘Johnny’ Rico, was Filipino. The movie version of the character? Was played by white American actor, Casper van Dien. The film was made some seven years after Heinlein’s death: he’s possibly spinning in his grave.)
Here’s a thought …
“This is widely considered a milestone in world history, as it marked the beginning of a sea-based phase of global multiculturalism.”
From the Wikipedia entry on Da Gama.
A song …
And a rhetorical question: where DOES La Roux get her hair ideas … ?
The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* Hello, Mum!
† I’ll have to check out Tremors at some point, Olga! But I always think Starship Troopers is a good example of how American and UK science fictions differ. The monsters in it are Communists. In Britain the monsters are all Nazis!
Oh, did you catch the Sky TV version of The Midwich Cuckoos, over there? It’s good: but I’m not sure I was too pleased with the ending. One of the kids survived.
Oh, he’s out of office: but there’s arguments about him staying as PM! Oy!
I never played the setting that Vecna features in, Olga. But friends who have tell me it’s Lich as in rich. As in Lichfield, in other words. Apparently, it’s an old word for a corpse!
‡ Ha! Donald would probably be trying to grab the steering wheel of the Mini Moke, Debbi! Or complaining the election was rigged. So no change, there, then.
Q5) Spices Fingers crossed on the meeting today. Yes, I've already signed a petition to see if they will kick Boris out now rather than later. Who knows what he could do in the meantime? I don't have Netflix, so I don't know if it's shown here, but I'll keep my eyes open for it. And, please, do watch Tremors. I adore it. (I am a fan of Kevin Bacon, but the whole movie is absolutely mad!)
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
† Your Facebook, X/Twitter, Blogger, Instagram, TikTok or LinkedIn profile are acceptable. I also like seeing folks webpages.
As a thought for you, Olga, Debbi …
ReplyDeleteShinzo Abe, former Japanese PM has died: as he was effectively assassinated.
My cynical first thought? Was “Boris thinks he’s got problems.”
I understand the Her Majesty The Queen has ask Donald Trump to be the interim Prime Minister. He is fallows the rules more than Boris.
