Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd August, 2022

3rd August, 2022.

Yes: there’s sad news, today.

It seems that the next series of Mock the Week is going to be the last!

To quote the show’s host, Dara Ó’Briain?

“We just couldn’t be more silly than the news was already.”

Personally?

I’m very aware the show has a reputation for being very competitive …

But also think it’s a huge shame: the show’s a highlight of the week.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        3rd August is the Feast of Nicodemus.   He appear in which of The Four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke or John?

Q2)        Nestorius — the man behind Nestorianism — was exiled on 3rd August, 435AD.   Nestorianism was a set of beliefs in which religion: Islam, Judaism or Christianity?

Q3)        Firestone was founded on 3rd August, 1900.   It makes what: tyres, windows or nuclear generators?

Q4)        The Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty was ratified by the US Senate: on 3rd August, 1972.   The treaty was between the US and where: China, the USSR or North Korea?

Q5)        Finally … ?   3rd August is the Feast day of Saint Waltheof of Melrose.   The Melrose in question is where: England, Northern Ireland, Wales or Scotland?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        2nd August, 1932, saw the birth of actor, Peter O’Toole.   He did his acting training, where: RADA, LAMBDA or Central?
A1)        The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, or RADA.

Q2)        Thomas Grey was executed on 2nd August, 1415: for taking part in the Southampton Plot.   The Plot was a plot against whom: Henry 4th, Henry 5th or Henry 6th?
A2)        Henry 5th.

Q3)        The US conducted its first Census.   On 2nd August of which year of the 1790s?
A3)        1790.

Q4)        The Helsinki Metro opened on 2nd August, 1982.   City — and transport system — are in which North European country?
A4)        Finland.

Q5)        Finally … ?   A factory in Kunshan exploded on 2nd August, 2014.   Explosion, factory and city are in which Asian nation?
A5)        China.
Here’s a thought …
“I don’t see why escapist literature should not also be a work of art.”
P. D. James, 3 August 1920 – 27 November 2014.
And a song …

I knew James Darren reminded me of someone!

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        What amazed me, Olga?   Was the work she put in for NASA, encouraging people into space.   That’s quite something.   And George’s memories were something to read!
Did you ever watch Mock the Week, while you were here?   It turns out the next series — in autumn of this year — is to be the last!

        Hello, Mum!

Isn’t it just, Debbi?   Zoe Saldana — who played Uhura in the recent movies — was just as passionate.   As was Sonequa Martin-Green, Captain Burnham in Star Trek Discovery.   (It seems Sonequa’s following Nichelle’s footsteps: and helping NASA promote their astronaut programme.)

Yes, she helped NASA and I'm sure many girls considered a career (or careers) that they wouldn't have thought about without her. Very important, and very moving homages.
Yes, I watched Mock the Week quite often. I never understood how they could be so fast at coming up with something relevant. It made my mind wobble! It goes to prove that comedians are (usually) very smart and quick thinkers. Sad news that the series is coming to an end, although the host is quite right. You couldn't make up what is going on at the moment. Reality is definitely weirder than fiction at the moment.
I hope you are well. I worried a bit when I didn't see you around on Twitter. I thought it was probably a technical problem, but I thought I'd check in these uncertain times. ♥

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
